  • how can the most creative winner can be most creative when its a sample of ian dury,s classic sex and drugs and roknroll what a load of shit.

  • i reckon still pending should of been able to enter they r awesome and better than all of them

  • maldroid is a amazing band. total fresh. i'm totally freaked on this band.

  • I would hope that some a&r rep would look at the the video's, but I guesst that's not happening.

  • Cool, they get to rip off hundreds and minimally reward 4... this isn't a scam.

  • THOSE are the WINNERS?? You gotta be joking.

  • i agree with the majority of comments. why is it that awards rarely go to those who deserve them?

  • All these gyus were awful, aside from that Best Live Performance perhaps.

  • yea .. uh they sucked

  • What's the song on the intro/conclusion?

  • this must have been all emo voters

  • boo! your bad

  • No offense to the musicians, but to the 45 year old JUDGE: how is that the "Best Song"? And how is the "Most Creative" one creative at all? I mean, the band & video are fine, but what's so creative about a band walking around Venice Beach in a video? (Ironically, the video for the lame song that won "best song" is much more creative than the one that won "Most Creative," and yet the song in the "Most Creative" is better than the "Best Song" (though that's not hard, since that song is weak).

  • A featured video won the contest.

    ...hmmmmm.

  • Amazingly all those bands sound like shit!

  • awesome the winners were ok i liked them but the one for best song was kinda boring

  • those winners sucked. ESCPECIALLY best song. eh. there were so many other better songs!

  • im sorry but i didnt like any of the winners. To me they sucked.

  • everyone...flag this video as inappropriate material. this is really stupid

  • omg... 0:59 mins...such a waste of time!

  • o wow 0:30 its so pathetic

  • Congradulations. You call this a contest? I call it a target maketing circus and you proved your point. I wonder how many tried to enter but could'nt because your server stayed jammed most of the time. You got away with it because your puppet masters behind the grid think that they are smarter than everyone else. Hey it's free and open market place so your allowed.

  • Whats the song that being played at the end...within the ad...whos the artist and the song??? the song that starts after the 42nd second of the video?...please let me know

  • This is my last comment on the issue. But Jimmy Kimmel is currently doing a contest for an unsigned band. When you go on the website it clearly says "YOU CANNOT BE SIGNED TO ANY LABEL" that is how a contest should be done with defined rules not this Bullshit

  • ur retarted, this is not bullshit

  • The Best Time ever in New York!!! You Tube Rocks!

  • Best song was TERRIBLE. Best live act, TERRIBLE! ALL HORRIBLE!! Ahhh!

  • As long as acoutsticore didn't win! WOOT

  • hah. well, the "acoutsticore" that was featured on YouTube performed a hell of a lot better than how "best song" is doing. As for the new video, it came in at #25 in the contest, so clearly some people liked it.

  • Secondly it was presented as UNSIGNED ACTS, when it was obvious that most of the people in the contest were connected to indie labels. This was a flat out MISREPRESENTATION

  • my band had no recording contract before this contest. It was not til after did we get signed.

  • There were people entered who ILLEGALLY WERE USING SAMPLES. There was one dude who was using an Marvin Gay sample.

  • COMPLAINING HUH? BITCHING HUH

I just want to say this. This issue is not about the people who won. Congratulation. This issue is about how this contest was presented

  • My band didn't win either, and yes I think we're as good or better than the ones that won, but I won't complain, because if we had won, we would have been the band people are complaining about. And that's not fair to the bands. They didn't run the contest, they only entered.

  • I don't have a problem with the winners or contest. I'm sure they realize the problems and will fix them for their next contest. The Maldroid video was awesome, and probably took hundreds of hours of work. I also thought the "Gets So Hard" video by Roses was as good as any video and song I saw in that category. Most live performances I saw were just a guy in front of a camera, or someone filming a band with a camera on a tripod. I'm not into rap, but that video and song was good. Congrats.

  • I don't think some people undertand the issues involved

  • Rock N Roll!! Youtube you Rock!

  • Rock n Roll! Youtube you Rock!!!

  • They all sucked... Best Live Performance? They were just standing there....

  • What was the song at the end?

  • based on the video and not being there. I'd throw up a $5 no matter what. Good show, make it better everytime.

    Cheers and make it happen!

    Chris

  • Who cares? This was worthless.

  • You know what amazes me about these comments? For all of you who are bitching about the winners, there sure as hell must have been alot of other people who voted for them, or they wouldn't have won. The top 20 vote getters then were judged and chosen. So somebody gave them enough votes to make it in. Give it up. Life happens and you move on. Why don't you check out the sites of the winners and see what their stats are?Favorites, ratings, subscribers? Might tell you something.

  • i dont see any of the other bands that won, or even got honorable mention showing their faces on the message boards. i hope everyone realizes that there are alot of hard working bands and musicians that entered this contest that didn't even get a glance at. beyond all of the arguing that goes on, you cant deny that everyone who entered is trying to live the same dream.

  • hey everyone.. our band won honorable mention and in all honesty, we worked our asses off. we lived this contest for 3 weeks. we dont claim to sound better than any other bands in this contest, cause frankly we dont. we just worked our asses off.

  • ...and the world yawned.

  • the only good one was maldroid

  • what?

  • THEY ALL SUK ( spec da rap 1)

  • y r all of u complaining, u (the ppl on u tube) r the ones who voted, it has nothing to do with cingular or anyone else, and if u didnt vote well then its ur fault

  • I swear that most of these people have to be teenagers!! What a bunch of jealous kids...Its sad!

  • stfu bitch... at least they are doing somthing and not just complaining. AGE DOESNT MATTER! for example, im 13!

  • yeah lame

  • Check out a band called Fortune. They play originals and covers and they really rock. They didnt win but who cares. Theyre worth a look for something different.

  • Haha! Fucking sellouts.

  • The Greenland song sounds like the typical, dull, bland, generic crap that is played on the radio non-stop. The Best Music Video Award might as well have been given to Roy Lichtenstein. The Ostrich Head video isn't creative in anyway whatsoever: it looks exactly like every other rap video, only on a smaller budget.

    What a load of rubbish.

Oh, and I hate that Bloc Party song too.

  • type in search ryo the ninja kid and leave a comment please

  • I don't get it.

  • strange ..very strange.

  • an underground movement from Cingular? more like bought off artists. Video BS 101.

  • Youtube underground is FUCKING LAME..America only that does NOT represent YOUTUBE....fukers.

  • I recorded my friends band with a shitty $300 sony handycam and their live unmixed stuff sounds better than most of the entries studio material. Look I'm obviously biased here so dont take my word for it..click on my name and see for yourself

  • Kind of dissappointing. Here would be MY PICKS (including the honorable mentions)

BEST VIDEO: "He said, she said"-Madroid (I'll agree here)

BEST LIVE: "City of Lies" - The Charles Shaw Project" ( She sings like an Angel! )

Best Song: "James and the rainbros" - Children of the universe

Most Creative: "Internet Killed the radio Star"-clipbandits

    WHAT ARE YOUR PICKS?

  • Meh, Greenland sounds like the generic same old stuff you hear blasting on radios/mtv everyday, time for a change? right...

Would have liked to have seen more ebm or such have been in the contest.

  • "Banquet" by Bloc Party

  • this was a good idea by youtube and hopefully there r more contests in the future

  • This shit sucks....

  • wow. you have the maturity of a five-year-old girl.

  • I'm pretty sure a five year old girl would not say that.

  • i said maturity, not vocabulary.

you've got the mouth of a sailor

  • My point stands...

  • how that greenland song got any sort of award is beyond me, sounds like the shittest thing since McFly

  • the song "the way it is" by greenland is pretty awesome.

  • Oh boy, I'm sure glad I had original content!! All these songs are reallly bad!! Like I had a chance anyway..HAHA!

  • It's nice to see the comments returning to intelligent thoughtout opinions. All the mud slinging is unnecessary and non productive. There were votes counted and judges who made a decision. So why not just congradulate those who won and encourage those who didn't to keep on trying. There is a lot of untapped talent out there .Individual likes and dislikes are what make us all different. The groups that won it was their time. And when it's yours it will happen.

  • the winners of this contest are those of us who say, "it's time for a change in what we call the music industry - let's take this in a new direction."

and in the next few months, we'll look back at this contest and really be able to say that the youtube web platform was instrumental in changing the way music is promoted and performed on the internet.

    thanks!

  • So well put dglasmusic!!!

  • I found the interface the main problem. It was hard to navigate. Not only that I found it very time consuming and tedious. Not only were the selections jumbled into a garbage bin, but it was so frustrating just listening to poor performances.

  • agreed

  • we need original music, original beats, original lyrics - and at least youtube has stepped into the middle of that "discussion" and hosted a forum to see what is out there. and i am encouraged in a very big way by this contest, because if you really think about it - anyone can get exposure now, you don't have to be signed, you don't have to have connections - you just need to be good - and the winners of this contest are not just the ones in the winners circle.

  • YouTube is really amazing for just that reason. I started a few months ago promoting my friends band here and took some liberties at the beginning getting some exposure but for months I havent touched a thing and its two to three hundred views everyday. It blew the guys in the band away. So they didnt win this. In the end its all about the fans anyways. I like your stuff by the way.

  • but youtube is made up of humans, and sure, someone had to sponsor the prizes for this contest, so of course the sponsors have to be pleased with the results at the end of the contest - but like i said, there is so much fighting about music these days because the overall quality has gone down so much -

  • someone needs to fix the american music scene, that's for sure - and i encourage musicians on youtube to perhaps look at this contest in another way: youtube took the unprecedented and bold step to initiate a new direction in the music industry - whether you understand this or not at the moment, media is changing - ipods won't be here forever, either -

  • Well, the bands could have been A LOT better. These bands were not impressive at all.

  • youtube had a lot of problems pulling this contest off, and i think that has to do with how high emotions run when we have contests like this - ultimately, contests are flawed, recognizing the efforts of some over others - winners and losers, honestly, in the end - who cares?

my opinion is that quality will always rise to the top, and if people like what you have to offer, you will always find an audience.

  • well if no one loses then that means no one wins. and if no one can be a winner than that means that all music is equal meaning that no one band is better than another. the whole point behind a contest is to find the best or loudest or weirdest or whatever.

  • i learned a lot from this contest. i met people from europe, and i had the opportunity to show my song to over 18,000 people - for me, that's a good thing. youtube didn't run the contest as planned, but you should take into account the fact that google purchased youtube while this contest was just getting going - a lot of important changes were happening at youtube while this contest was going on.

  • the problem with this contest in my opinion has to do with the following:

the condition of music in america is probably at an all-time low. music industry execs don't even know what to do about it. there are thousands and thousands of musicians in america who deserve to be heard - unfortunately, no one on the internet has truly uncovered a way to give everybody equal exposure.

  • forget about christian music, and what on earth, these shown bands were boring as anything can be.

  • Why did they pick crappy bands?!? this sucks!

  • dystroya 49. I can't believe that a 32 year old "adult??" would make a comment to someone's mom like that. You obviously didn't have a very good one, or she would have taught you some manners.Obviously your comments show that you have poor taste in general and that one specifically a total lack of class.Perhaps you ought to think about getting a life and living it with some integrity and common courtesy for others.

  • My son is in OSTRICHHEAD, and I am very proud of him, as well as the rest of the group. They work very hard writing, producing, and performing their music. They deserved to win, and thank you to every one who was kind enough to say the same. Congratulations to the rest of the winners, too.

  • To Freesiacarmel: Get a fucking life so called band "OSTRICHHEAD" is so fucking gay! answer me back you fuck head

  • This person is obviously a child to speak like that to someone's mom...32?? Ha, more like 14...

  • I did not expect to win but I am thankful that we got quite a bit of exposure and thousands of folks watching our videos. We try to play music that Christians and non-Christians can enjoy.

  • They where all pretty good, in my opinion but of the top 4 I'm personally partial to Ostrich Head. Deffinatly check them out for some good music.

  • what is the song played at the very end of the clip?

  • banquet by bloc party...bloc party is too sick

  • thx

  • Bloc Party - Banquet

  • lol i'm an idiot, i didnt see that someone already replied

  • Ahhh, I lost

  • why is banquet the backroudn that sucks i love that song and now its been disgraced

  • löiuöföidifuöifsöiföisjbg

    bullshit

  • wow my band isn't much worse than these guys

  • See the numbers for what? It won't change a thing. they chose the 4 they think is best and there is nothing that anyone can do about it. FAIR OR NOT, WE TRIED AND SHOULD JUST SUCK IT UP! THEY WON, WE LOST. THAT'S THE WAY THE GAME IS PLAYED :) NOW COME OVER TO MY PAGE AND LISTEN TO SOME NON CORPORATE KICK ASS RNR GOOD-LOOKING!

  • WOW I have a hard time believing that people hate these videos that much!?!

  • Those were the winners? BARF!

  • I agree, this whole thing could have been rigged. Do the other groups even get to find out who many votes they got. Really unorganized.

  • meh

  • shit!

  • Yeah it was really unclear, do we even know how many votes each band won with?

  • lol

  • vous ête seulement jaloux de nous ;)

  • wow all of the winners sucked

i only heard about 10 vids and i could find better winners in those vids than these

  • poorly executed, horrible voting system. maldroid + ostrich head = alright.

  • That nathan hughes is pretty good!! Ain't Ostrich Head Though...

  • let it be man..

  • terriable

  • i think this is bull shit, nathan hughes should have won something look him up in youtube, hes really good, also the voting system was unclear and unreliable, most voters didnt know what or where to vote, this whole contest was bull shit

  • If you were serious then I only hope your hate comes back to bite you sometime.

  • WOW thats deep!! The Canada thing is a joke, but the rest of what I said is true...All the bands did a great job and its moron's like that posting negativity that pisses me off!!

  • Maybe it was poorly executed, but you all sure have waisted enough time talking shit about the bands...if it wasn't that important and you didn't vote; Then, WHY THE HELL DO YOU HAVE AN OPINION about the contest!

  • At least Canadians never had racial segregation. Canada rules.

  • who cares? canadians are all gay.

  • and you dont deserve an opinion.

  • Really though, who the hell are these assholes on here hating on the winners...congratulate them dicks!! Jealousy is not becomming...

  • The Voting was done so poorly. How could people possibly go through 3000 videos listening to each and everyone and voting? Find a better way to do this next time.

3000 x 3 mins. apprx = 9000 minutes = 150 hours....screw that, Im not gonna spend 150 hours voting for bands on youtube. As I said earlier, POORLY DONE.

  • Not true, charles shaw project had a live video that came in at 14 and I think there were a few others.

  • BUSTED! LOL! I wouldnt doubt it if youtube just let us do all the dirty work, then Once its widdled down they just pick from the top 200. Congrats to the winners though!

  • yeah, there it is, the one that got an honorable mention. that video was in the top 20 while the actual winner wasn't. isn't it illegal to violate the rules of a contest that you guys set at the beginning of the contest? corporate underhandedness already? google only bought you guys out a month ago.

  • no kidding. not really anything they can do about it now. I saw the winners on Good morning america this morning. I had to see the videos they were talking about. not impressed.

  • I can't speak for the other three bands, but Ostrichhead is not signed. At least they went into this contest not signed, I'm hoping that will change now!

  • Crap...

  • Which band was signed?? I know that Ostrich Head is not signed...they just are huge in the LA nightclub scene...

  • maldroid has been signed.

  • so what do you do when you find out the bands that won are already signed? but im sure you guys knew they were signed when you picked them as winners...congratulations to all the winners and their management.

  • Can I get an O Head!?!? Digital Underground and the O live at Doc Ricketts Lab, Monterey CA on Friday December 1st...gonna be huge! Any of the other bands play with Digital, Lupe Fiasco, The Alkaholics, Ol Dirty Bastard...etc?? Yeah, I didn't think so...these guys better be one their way or there's no justice in the world...Congratulations to the other winners, although I agree with bigdawg, the O should have won 3 of the 4 categories...

  • Wow, I am amazed at the outcome of this contest...One group stood out far more than the rest and they get most creative...I'm a huge fan and plan to be forever!! Ostrich Head should have took 3 of the 4 categories...seriously, thats talent!!

  • very good vids

  • For the people that voted for me, perrga (species4) I appreciate it Very Much. I produced this song atmospheric detonator in 1993. THANKS

  • Ostrich Head is the freshest of the bunch...they are the only one of the winning groups with a fresh sound, great lyrics, and an entertaining video...Name one group that compares now a days...the industry is so biases towards a group that sounds like every other one out there that made money...Fresh start with some O Head is my pic...these guys are gonna be huge!

  • Soemone up the way said all the videos were like the genre of the contest video? They had better listen again. Ostrichhead isn't rock it's hip hop and damn good hip hop.Nothing like the other three winners at all. Totally different and totally fresh.

  • If the public votes "they are dumb and don't know anything" and if youtube picks the winner "It is rigged" so...just get over it. YOU DIDN"T WIN! It is a great live performace by a good band anyway so who cares what number it is.

  • Is anyone really surprised by that? I expected it in fact

  • Either the competition out there is lame or UTube has bad taste.

  • shitty music.

  • too right

  • Hahahah ok... wow... so votes really didn't matter in this contest: Pawnshop Roses' video was 96th in total number of votes - that's clearly outside the top 20 YouTube said Alexandra Patsavas would choose from for the four finalists.

  • how'd you find that out?

  • first find a video entered, ("that's the way it is" for example - which is being featured right now) then once on the video's page click on the youtube underground icon in the upper right. You'll be brought to the voting area, but now its been reorganized by numbers of votes - 1 has most, 2 second most and so on. The other three winning videos were in the top 20 as promised.

  • doesnt work.

  • they changed it when they caught on that people could see what order the videos were in. not sure what kind of order its in now.

  • very good vids

  • Uh I think the real winners should be the top favourites of all times on THIS ACTUAL SITE

  • Interesting to see that the above songs can all be bought at the BNP website, (British National Party) a Far Right political party supported by Neo Nazis and Fascists alike. Your songs are painfully crap and the lyrics are ignorant and badly written. What you are doing is twisting these events to insight ignorant people to hate minorities in our community. If you have ever wondered why the British economy is so strong then maybe you should find out, it is due to immigration.

  • whoa, does anyone else think that Maldroids video was amazing for a budget of zero dollars?

  • that all sucked

  • Most likely the majority of votes for the winners and semifinalists either came from (1) their own fans, or (2) for the 3 videos in "honorable mention" that were featured before the contest began, a percentage of the massive number of normal viewers those videos got. Remember: to be considered, your video had to be in the top 20 finalists.

  • From that list of finalists, "Alexandra Patsavas of Chop Shop Music Supervision, whose work on The O.C. and Grey's Anatomy has drawn rave reviews for breaking new bands," picked the four winners.

  • What do the "honorable mentions" win?

  • That's it... an honorable mention.

  • The honorable mentions were great too. Did anybody catch the winners performances on good morning america? I'd like to see it. Someone should upload it on youtube. ;)

  • congrats to all of the winners!!

  • OHead is da bomb! Awesome graphics!

  • Impressive, impressive. Ostrich Head rocks.

  • this loox seriuosly gay, just about 3 or 4 songs? this looked so bootleg.

  • Actually, after seeing Maldroid's video it's actually pretty good. I'm still skeptical about YouTube's voting mechanisms though.

  • yeah, not my style, there are other genre. I hope the album doesn't come out...it'll be as good as the myspace album..hahaha

  • I call bullshit. There was never any category votes, this was obviously a judged contest. Strange how all the winners were the same genre as the intro "music" for the contest, eh?

Don't count on getting your individual vote numbers. YouTube doesn't have them.
