In my opinion, it is because he listens to more than just hip hop, he listens to rock and other genres of music too, and i know for a fact he listens to red hot chili peppers. Listening to other forms of music develops your own unique style greatly, and that is what Lupe has done. He has literally mastered music.

He could have a little more humble goals than getting millions and buying a skyscraper (one that would help people). But who am I to criticize someone else's mantra, perhaps his huge skyscraper with a movie theater on the 60th floor will help spread awareness and education to impoverished communities. I don't know.

That's not true at all. His new album American Gangster was great. Especially after the disappointment of Kingdom Come. I found American Gangster to be great. In fact it was even better than the overlong The Cool. In fact American Gangster was (imo) top 3 of the year.

In his music he claims to be against materialism, yet in a moment of honesty, reveals he does not truly feel that way. And yes, wanting a skyscraper is materialistic. Lupe has never said he's against materialism. If anything, he's more against the "gangster" mentality. Fans of Lupe know that he likes fashion and other nice things...and not because he raps about it (like on "Gold Watch"), but because when you look at him, he LOOKS fashionable. Even if you don't like it, you can tell there's effort put into what he wears. Lupe is from the hood, and like most people who come from hardship, it's nice to be able buy things you couldn't have growing up.

Just saying, wanting to be successful and wanting skyscaper with theaters are two DIFFERENT things. I am down for him getting paid, but music artists get way too much for what they do. What about school teachers, firefighters, etc? They should be getting paid more, not musicians. I'm coming from a similar angle but this video alone doesn't put him in the same group as all the other artists. He didn't brag about the money he does have, nor the women or the clothes he wears he just wants to buy a skyscraper. You know like when we were little we wanted to have super powers or meet santaclaus etc. the only difference is realizing his dream costs money. Some teachers and fire fighters deserve more just as Lupe deserves the money he hopes to make IMO. making music isn't cheap

Yo i like this argument. His personal goal is to use the language of hip hop to sell records and get paid. Not all hip hop artist got paid. Graff artists and bboys are still starving. MC's are marketable, so record companies promise mad money and screw over the artists. There's no middle ground for musicians, its either sell out, or starve. Independent labels are the closest to middle class for musicians. The true nature of hip hop is to do it cause you love it, not to get paid for it. Word.

That's not true at all. His new album American Gangster was great. Especially after the disappointment of Kingdom Come. I found American Gangster to be great. In fact it was even better than the overlong The Cool. In fact American Gangster was (imo) top 3 of the year.
