We have squat toilets here in Singapore too (and other countries). I'm female and I have no trouble with them no matter what I'm wearing. You just gotta get used to it I suppose. Also, apparently the squatting position is better facilitation for...flow.
great story, when I was couch-surfing in Shin Imamiya in Osaka (largest slum in Japan last I knew), it was pretty rugged. the guy I stayed with was awesome but his toilet situation was not. It was Japanese style and my girlfriend had a harder time with it than I did so any time she had to use the toilet she went down the street to the am/pm!
Hello Kevin, I just discovered your channel yesterday and im so addicted to your Japanese Eat segments. I was wondering if the rice in the bento boxes or in the inarizushi are hard/dry. I mean, if you leave the rice in the refrigerator, they become kinda hard and not so good to eat.
swatting toilets are awful ... I had to use one once, and it scarred me for years to come .... must ..... repress .... memories .... DAMN YOU! YOU REMINDED ME!
You also have to be wary on where you go. In my experience, toilets in Japan can be just as dirty as ones in public places in America, especially in crowded commuter train stations, but even in those, if you have the time, usually there's a department store nearby with cleaner ones which are attached to the station. The squatties take some getting used to. Definitely prefer Western style. Luckily they're all over the place.
Sounds like using the toilet in Japan sounds like it's a real crapper. :\ How do they expect women to go? It's not easy if you're wearing pants/underwear....
@Blueyedcin what missy192 said.....that's what my wife tell me too. Not going to walk into a woman's room with a video camera. That's a great way to become "BusanKevin Behind Bars"!
@BusanKevin wouldn-t mind a vlog straight out of a Japanese Prison, you can do the intreview of that Serbian national that was part of the biggest jewl robbery in Japans history xD
Sometimes I prefer the squat toilet. It clears out your bowels pretty well. Considering I eat rice all the time here in Japan, a squat pot can be optimal. Good tip on the T.P. at the end though. That is a MUST if you visit Japan.
I can't tell you the number of times I've thanked god that people at my train station give out those packs of tissues! I wish train stations had toilet paper, but I guess tissues are sufficient :) Great video! Wish I saw it before I came here last year! I wouldn't have been so surprised!
Oh and for anyone who sees this comment, Japanese bathrooms don't often have paper towels or hand dryers either!! So bring a handkerchief or hand towel with you to the bathroom! :)
@BusanKevin Yes! for the parks yes and some of the smaller stations, i would have to agree about the tissues hahahaha; but if its Seven Eleven, Lawson and other 24hours convenience stores, or department stores, no doubt, very clean. I've been living here for years now, and for me, Japan has the cleanness toilets. You should make a video about those toilets. They're "fun" in a way...
Ive seen other videos about bathrooms and toilets in japan. its so weird and fascinating LOL and im used to hear this song on foodwishes so it makes it even weirder HAHA!
Very interesting about the tp tip. It would royally suck to have to run to the bathroom and realize when it's too late that you forgot to bring your tp. How long did it take you to learn to use the squatty?
@MrJingjong I had a lot of experience from my time in Korea. The bathroom situation in 2002 in Korea was rough. Modern bathrooms with no TP....I've never got used to squatties. Hate them! I know how to use them though.
@MrJingjong haha! if their is no TP , i kindly use a few PAPER TOWELS that i carry and clog the bastard up or don't giggle the handle and let the shit sit !, i also hate the idea of not flushing down the TP , hate those little wastecans of TOILET PAPER, WTF ARE THEY SAVING IT FOR,if the shit can go down ,why not the dirty paper too ,its both compostible

With the exception of the squat toilets and occasional lack of toilet paper, that sounded a lot like in the United States.

I found when i was in Japan that Conbini's were the best place to go because they are everywhere, western style and always clean.
shibuyakun 2 months ago
@shibuyakun very true. Most have toilets. Occasionally in the busier area the toilets are locked up though.
