  • Great video Willie, the picture at the end in black and white (9.26) in the middle is Jock McVicar fae Fintry, was my boxing coach at Camperdown ABC, he had a son Norrie who also boxed. I think he was related to Matt McVicar.

  • @Scotty1137 Jock Mcvicar was my grandad yeh Matt was his Brother...Great seeing Uncle Matt working as a stower :)

  • forgot to mention Dave Black he was a driver aswell . He went on to work for the council as a security man at the bottom of the multis in Ardler until he passed in the 90's . I am very pleased to see you have posted a very significant part of our heritage and history on the net . Well done and thanks to all involved .

  • I still have my jute hook i used for hauling the bales around on the rear of my lorry . The buildings these lads are working in where taken over by willie henderson who stored and repaired accident damaged cars until recently when he moved premises to Tealing outside Dundee . This is an excellent video well preserved and a nice trip down memory lane for me .Some of the drivers where willie whammond , dave (bunter mollison) , jim fitchet and many more . It was a time of good wealth in Dundee

  • I worked with John Findlay Haulage Contractors (geordie stewart) who ranted findlay lochee when answering the phone pmsl . They was based at the top of balfield road now Dingbros car parts . We moved jute from the sheds at the docks now Taza resturant and chinese eat what you like for a fiver shops the lot . Its a dying generation of hard workers good men and sad to see all these buildings being either demolished or change of use .
