I don't think Iceland was always covered in ice. I believe it used to be beautifully green with drabbs of grey rocking here and there along the shoreline and in the mountains, like scottland. I believe it was something else before the glaciers swept through... am I wrong for thinking this? I do not know much of the geography of Iceland. I also believe this of Greenland, and I hope to maybe study in these wonderfull places.
I am a geologist, Iceland is a farily young Island, (approx. 25 Ma), there are 4 main periods in the development of the Island. The oldest Rocks are basalts which make up a vast amount of the Icelandic Rocks. In those tertiary rocks iron oxides (water and warm temperatures are needed to form those iron oxides) hint at a moist and warm climate at the time they were formed. The Plume found under Iceland today was originally situated under Greenland.

Its not that we Americans are stupid. Most of us are just to naive to realize the kind of life we are living. A repetitive forced lifestyle confined in suburbs and apartment buildings convenient to support a falling economy because we took more than we needed in the first place. American society is forced to believe that there isn't enough to go around so we keep it all to ourselves. In Iceland. All you need is nature, Astru and the ancient gods by your side. You will find yourself in adventure.

@beautifulworld1988 you can proboably find some tour guides if you search golden circle tour guides and there is always.caving.is but you have to get a tour guide over 1000 tourists a year get lost and some die

Excuse me for being a bit rude in applying so directly to you but I must get answers to my doubts. Many people claim that Iceland is a stunning destination with unearthly landscapes not to be encountered anywhere in the world. However, when I look at photos taken of Icenadic views, I do not get the impression there is anything to boast of . Well, there is some undeniable beauty but I think there are other countries in the far east and Europe which far exceed Iceland by beauty.So what's therush.

I am saving up money for a trip. I've wanted to go to Iceland since I was 14! Iceland seems to be a precious gem, sitting at the top of the world.
The majority of Europe is composed of different countries all puzzled together dissected by borders. Iceland has no borders, and has maintained its identity for years.

I was in Iceland when i was 16 and after this year when i have been there i never can forget any Moment. It was a feeling like Home to me.Now I`m 41 and I know I will be back and never go away again . I love Iceland from the first Moment I saw it.

Gosh, I am definately moving to Iceland someday. I love my Sweden, but we've totally abandoned our northern heritage.

Ahh, how i wish to even have the chance to go to Northern Europe, even just Europe in general. The scenery I've seen of it through photographs and film are beyond everything I could ever imagine. Being a teenager stuck in Canada really sucks sometimes.

That would be great just to get away from the fakeness of most people here and meet some real people in Europe.

weren´t for the language... I´m not saying its not a nice language, i just imagine its a nightmare for foreigners to learn. ( i speak spanish, italian and german, but when i think about having to learn danish, i think i would freak ;) ) Is icelandic a very different dialect? @mypetfly This country was originally called Iceland because the people that came here from Norway and Ireland didn't want anyone else to come here, they gave the land the name Iceland to keep people away.
It was the opposite for Greenland.
I'm from Iceland and I honestly think it should be called Stormland, we only get about 3 days a year that are without wind (this sounds strange :S sry if the grammar is wrong), currently we have -10 C° in Reykjavík 7 m/s, I don't want to go out!

I love that you used Sigur Ros for this. It's a really well-put together video and quite moving. It makes me want to work even harder so I can eventually move there. Iceland has seriously become an obsession of mine - I've been reading about it like crazy for the last few months and I am going to get there as soon as I can.

Iceland is such a lovely country, and the people are so nice. I spent two weeks there in 2009, my first time traveling outside of the US. If you've never traveled abroad and are looking for a safe, friendly country to visit, you can't go wrong with Iceland. And you absolutely must try Appelsin!

People think of Iceland that it is totally frozen. That is not correct, cold in winter so preferably from -3 to -10 and is not going any higher.

Wenn man in einer großen Stadt mit vielen Menschen lebt, ist ein Reise nach Island das beste, um sich wieder zu erden und zu sich selbst zu finden. Ich habe dort sehr viele magische Momente erlebt, die Ruhe, welche die teiweise karge Landschaft häufig ausstrahlt, öffnet die Sinne wieder für die einfachen Dinge des Lebens, man gewinnt wieder Abstand zu all der Hektik und der bunten modernen schnellgelebten Welt

i love northern europe... when i compare northern europe to my stupid country (USA) it makes me wanna get up and move away from all the gangs, greed and fat people. my country cant even make it's own music worth a shit... our music is all focused around fame and money, and alot of our rock bands are from other countries. (like ACDC and 3dg)
