Lindros really? Gretzky, Mario, Orr, Howe (shot both left and right handed), Coffey, should be broken down by era. Hockey is that ish! Put a puck in my coffin.
When he played at 15% of his full strength and ability, he was the best player on the ice. If health was on his side, more people would talk of 66 than 99. It's alright though, the real fans know.
@BarryMcCawkiner Lemieux's career stands on its own merits though - we don't need to discuss what ifs. All of the setbacks, the injuries, the doubt are just as much of his career as the points and trophies. It makes everything he accomplished all the more amazing.
He failed to mention that this was the second consecutive season finishing behind the Devils as the worst team in the league. They were on the same win pace after the All-Star as they were before. Ten of fifty before the All-Star game and six of thirty after. One in five. Two fewer wins than the prior year. Not to mention that they were in the same division with the dominant Islanders and Flyers. The next year, with Mario? Finished second to last behind the Maple Leafs. Still behind the Devils.
hmmm.... i don't really see the other user's point if they were losing at the same rate before/after Mario.
It's so funny that people hate on Pittsburgh teams for somehow using the draft effectively, whether in football or hockey. We pay the piper by losing, get good draft picks, and then field competitive teams. Isn't that how sports are supposed to work?
Everyone forgets that Pitt purposly went out of their way to Blow and lose every game they could after the all-star break that year in order to be able to pick number 1 for Mario. NJ was clearly the worst team by far until the penns did everything they could to lose every game in order to get that pick. No one ever talks about it anymore but thats what happened. Real Shady to purposly lose games for any reason., but hey without Mario there wouldnt even be an NHL team in Pittsburgh today

I couldn't agree more. This guy was the most natural hockey player I've ever seen.He made it look so easy. It's like he wasn't even trying.

u can find season stats on wikipeda, but the pens were just terrible back then, they were even worse the season before the one that got them lemieux
an NHL team throwing a season just seems ridiculous, if you're a pro athlete you're always out to win

@w00ksAlot Yeah go to the mirror..pull down your pants and spread your ass cheeks and I'm pretty sure you can find the stats in there.
