Basically what Im trying to say is we are not part of "these islands". We are a unique, separate national unit off the caost of Europe and west of the British Isles, (Great Britain , the Isle of Man, Channel Islands, the Shetlands, etc.) I cant bring myself to ever commerate the armed forces who subjected my country to horrendous cruelty. Where is the UK national day of remembrance for the 1 million Irish people who died in the Famine, while Ireland was an integral part of the United Kingdom?
I genuinely feel sorry the the likes who were sacrificed (through no choice of their own) at Somme and similar places, including the many thousands of Irish who did make the ultimate sacrifice. Celtic fans do go over the top though. I can understand those of British persuasion wanting to commemerate their war dead. Just sit there in silence, no matter what your political affilaition.
