  • Mr. Nirom, you made the same point again. The Book of Mormon was not translated word for word from the golden plates. However, word for word verses from the KJV Bible do appear in the Book of Mormon. As mentioned earlier, the italicized words added by the KJV translators made it into the Book of Mormon as well, again word for word.

  • @MrAlanarns There are indeed some versers that are the same... however as I pointed out in the beginning, there are many that are different. and that is why I said that people are critical when it is the same.. and when it is different. Just can't please some people all the time. Why does it upset you that they are the same? If the translation that is in the KJV is accurate and conveys the same message that was on the gold plates.. why would the Lord not have Joseph use it?

  • Mr Nirom, so to summarize from your responses. A. The Book of Mormon was not translated word for word from the golden plates. B. There are words in the Book of Mormon that were not contained in the golden plates. C. There are certain verses found in the KJV Bible 1611 translation (along with the italicized words the KJV translators added themselves for clarity) that appear word for word in the Book of Mormon.

  • @MrAlanarns Let me ask you... what did YOU get from the article that I gave to you?

I am not sure what you are trying to prove here. If you look at the various translations of the Bible.. is it not obvious that the Bible was not translated word for word... why would you assume that the Book of Mormon is? My wife is German and often speaks in her native language. When I ask her what she said, she tells me quite often that she can't translate it word for word.. because it wont make sense.

  • When it comes to translations.. are we thinking in Eastern Concrete Terms, or Western Abstract Terms? What most Westerners do not understand is that the Bible (and the Book of Mormon) was written in an Eastern literary and thinking style—that is, how the Hebrews thought as opposed to how the Greeks thought. Some might not think this is important, but it often changes the entire meaning of a passage, thought or idea.

  • We need to understand that the Hebrews think differently than we do. One of the major differences is that the Hebrews think in concrete and Greeks (Westerners) think in abstracts. Concrete thinkers think in relation to things that can be seen, touched, smelled, heard or tasted. Some examples of this are tree, singing, smell of baking, etc. Abstract thoughts are such things as believe, faith, grace, etc.—which cannot be sensed by the 5 senses.

  • The word everlasting (the usual translation of the Hebrew word "olam") is an abstract word. The Hebrew meaning is something like "behind the horizon." It is something that is beyond what you can see (or understand) at the moment but may be revealed as you travel closer (or at a later time). The abstract idea of "everlasting" would have been a foreign concept to the ancient Hebrews.

  • To further demonstrate the differences, take the two words from the English translation; "create" and "believe." The Bible says: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth" (Genesis 1:1). The word "create" is usually understood as "to make something out of nothing.” This concept is abstract and therefore a foreign concept to the ancient Hebrews. Yet, it goes on to read: “God created man” (Gen1:26), but man was not created out of nothing, but out of the “dust of the earth” (Gen 2:7).

  • The Hebrew word translated as "create" is "bara." The more concrete understanding of this word can be found in 1 Samuel 2.29. "Why do you scorn my sacrifice and offering that I prescribed for my dwelling? Why do you honor your sons more than me by fattening yourselves on the choice parts of every offering made by my people Israel?” Here the word "fattening" is the same word "bara" as found in Genesis 1:1.

  • The word "bara" means "to fatten up" or "to fill up," thus, Genesis 1:1 is about God filling the light and darkness (separated out on day one) with the sun and the moon (filled on day four). He filled the water and the sky (separated out on day two) with the fish and the birds (filled on day five). He filled the land (separated out of the water on day three) with animals (filled on day six). Also notice the parallels, a Hebrew form of poetry; 1=4, 2=5 and 3=6.

  • A more Hebraic translation of Genesis 1:1 would be "In the beginning God filled the skies and the land."

"And Abraham believed God" (Genesis 15:6). The word "believe" implies the meaning of "to know something to be true" and this verse is usually understood as "And Abraham knew God would do what he said he will do." This interpretation conveys the idea that God is the one with the responsibility to perform something while Abraham is simply an observer.

  • The Hebrew word translated as "believe" is "aman" and can better be understood from the following verse. "I will drive him like a peg into a firm place, he will be a seat of honor for the house of his father." (Isaiah 22:23). In this sentence the word "firm," a place of support, is the Hebrew word "aman" and would be better translated as "support" instead of "believe."

  • Thus, when a person receives a calling, we might say “I believe he can do a good job,” and would be implying that we know he will fulfill his assignment. However, when we raise our hand and say “I support him,” we are actually saying that we will do something to help him. Now looking at this verse in Genesis 15:6 from a Hebraic point of view we can now read it as "And Abraham supported God." This now shifts the responsibility to perform something from God to Abraham.

  • As can be seen, the English words used to translate the Hebrew can often bring about a wrong interpretation of the verse. Hence, it is necessary to view words from their Hebraic perspective rather than from our own Western perspective. Or stated differently, even when knowing the ancient Prophets of the Book of Mormon wrote in reformed Egyptian, we need to recognize that they “thought” in Hebrew—that is, in concrete terms, not abstract as we do.

  • MrNirom, from your comment below, the Book of Mormon was NOT translated word for word from the golden plates. Please explain then how the translation process was done.

  • @MrAlanarns If you are truely interested.. you will find an explanation in the church magazine called the Ensign. It can be found on line at lds (dot) org/ensign/1977/09/by-the-gift-and-power-of-god. If you have additional questions I will be happy to try to answer them.

  • The King James Bible or KJV is an English translation of the Christian Bible by the Church of England begun in 1604 and completed in 1611. The New Testament was translated from Greek, the Old Testament was translated from Hebrew text. In the King James Bible, the italicized words are actually "extra" words inserted to make the meaning clearer; these words are not actually found in the Hebrew or Greek language. How did those italicized words end up in the BOM written over a thousand years before?

  • @MrAlanarns Simple.. the translation that was made from the writings of the Book of Mormon prophets was NOT a word for word translation. So NO... the italized words were NOT on the gold plates. I already explained why italicized words were used.

  • So Mr. Niron, the italicized words in the Book of Mormon along with word for word verses that match exactly the KJV Bible is not an indicator that plagiarism was done, is that what you are saying? Your reasoning is that if Joseph was trying to forge a book, then forging the KJV Bible verse for verse would be too obvious? Is that your point?

  • @MrAlanarns It seems funny to me that critics are upset when the verses are the same.. and also when they are different. The good Lord had the book translated into words that were very familiar to those reading it. If it had been so different, people would have also noticed and that would have become their focal point.. rather than what was being said. What I have noticed about your question is that it is NOT yours. You just copied and pasted it from some anti mormon web site. Google it!

  • Why do the Bible verses quoted in the Book of Mormon contain the italicized words from the King James Version that were added into the KJV text by the translators in the 16th and 17th centuries?

  • @MrAlanarns An analysis: The italics do indeed identify words added by the translators. They were "added" becasue they were necessary words for making sense of the translation: in Hebrew and Greek the words are sometimes implied, but necessary for English to make sense. (Italics can mislead us, however, in suggesting that there is such a thing as a word for word translation without interpretation, save for the italics.)

  • @MrAlanarns This is really a question about why the Book of Mormon text is often very close (or, in some cases, identical to) the King James Version. If Joseph was trying to forge a book (as the critics claim) then why did he quote from the Bible, the one book his readers would be sure to know?

  • satan is ruling in all the church's......GET OUT!

  • @2011iam4god

And where do you suggest we all go???

  • Don't go out? lol. Please. No we don't believe in polygamy.

  • @majinish

I would not go so far as to say we don't believe in polygamy.. I would say that we don't practice it the way they did in the 1850's. :-)

  • I couldn't agree more. I suppose I chose this name only because I love our church how it is more like the original church than any other I know of. Many claim to be but when you look at them they are far from them, especially since most follow the Nicene creed which is not Biblical. May we all aspire to live lives more like what Jesus Christ actually taught which includes unconditional love and obedience to his commandments. This brings true joy!

  • Lots of people are misinformed about the Mormons...damn. I cannot believe people think the LDS are polygamous today, as the church changed that to survive in a country antagonistic toward that life style (as one should I suppose) and Mormons are generally...obviously happy, it is a good life philosophy/religion.

  • It sounds all good until 7:10 .

  • @reafdaw01

Not sure what you mean. @ 7:10 she gives the official name of the Church. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She says we are not the Mormon Church.. because it is not Mormon's Church... it is Christ's Church. It this what you have a problem with?

  • @MrNirom No that's not my problem. I mean the whole part about god still speaking to man and all that BS..

  • @reafdaw01

Ah.. you don't believe that God speaks to man. Do you believe that he did at one time?... or that he never did and never will?

  • @MrNirom Well, I don't belive that God ever revealed him/herself, because there is no evidence for it. I'm also wondering why God would choose to speak to us in such obscure ways. (like there are Millions of religions)

Of course I can't say he won't speak to us in te future but I think it is very unlikly

  • @reafdaw01

Ah.. what kind of "evidence" is needed? How many witnesses does it take in our society to convict a man and put him away for life? This seems like a standard for "evidence". If this is so.. then there are plenty of "witnesses" that have testified in the past as to what they have saw and witnessed. If you are seeking for a personal witness.. then you must do it with a sincere heart.. having real intent.. and the promise is said that if you do so.. he will reveal the truth to you.

  • @reafdaw01 You know, God does reveal himself to us, in many ways. If you look around, how do you think we have everything beautiful and precious in this life, and our life. You do not even know or care what somebody who has faith believes in, you just want to put things down because there are different religions, well, I am a LDS and I feel that as long as somebody believes in God and Jesus Christ, tries to live their life right and treat others right then that is what matters.

  • @MrNirom Mother mary is believed to have been 14-17 yrs young when she gave birth to Jesus & his disciples were also thought to be aprox the same age when they were taught by Jesus. Joseph Smith was 14 when he had his 1st "vision" I personally have never known a teenager to lie so it must all be true. Muhammad & other men of those times had wives who were under the age of 10 (pedophiles in todays world) I hope God exists & I have asked numerous times for him to speak to me No reply yet.

  • I like Mormons, they are lovely people and I have fond memories of a couple of Mormon kids from my school days.

  • @borntoloop

To tithe a person who makes a dollar.. ten cents.. seems more fair than even what a government taxes it's people. So.. just what do you do for the poorly paid? And does giving people the responsibility to clean a building that they use such a terrible thing? Just what part of worshiping God do you agree with? Only those who can afford to pay to have someone else clean the church building? You should start with cleaning up your language... forget the church building. :-)

  • @MrNirom we give 10% of our every day money and give it to the poor not to the church it self we are willing to clean the church with only our time not money

  • @borntoloop

Threat? Nah... I just feel that just because someone decides to act like an idiot.. one need not put him on stage to let him prove it to everyone else as well. Like I said before.. it takes one to know one.

Besides.. Why would everyone care what your "opinion" is about Mormons? Opinions are like belly buttons... everyone has one but they really don't perform a viable function. Especially when trying to demean someone else's faith. :-)

  • @borntoloop

LOL.. yea.. I am going to let you post this... NOT!! hehehe

  • @borntoloop

Ah yes.. and here you are making comments to a person you don't even know. As one child speaking to another.. all I can say is: Takes one to know one. :-) Peace!

  • @jancy82520

Ah... then I could easily say the same thing about your belief system.. It is just an opinion and nothing more. Especially when it comes to my belief system.

But it is not of my opinion that God has spoken to me by the gift of the Holy Ghost.. that is a fact. It is of your opinion that it didn't happen to me... but still a fact that it did. Your belief or non belief does not take away from the fact that it actually happened... any more than if you believe the earth is flat.

  • @jancy82520

If you want to say that my "opinion" is the right one.. then be my guest. It has nothing to do with me being Mormon.. that I am right.

I prayed to know if the Book of Mormon was the word of God.. I was told it was. I prayed to know if Joseph was a Prophet of God.. I was also told he was. I continue to be shown & told the same thing over and over and over again in many different ways. I can not tell you what "other" people are told... only myself. So this is not an opinion.

  • @jancy82520

Lecture you about your spiritual path? I don't think so. I don't know where you are on the spiritual path. You have asked me questions.. I have done nothing but answer them.

Ah.. I see... It is me that has convinced myself that the Holy Ghost has spoken to me.. but as to the rest of the world who also believe they have received a message from the Holy Ghost.. they did.. but I didn't.

I am not speaking my opinion.. but my eye witness account of what has happened to me.

  • @jancy82520

Just like Joseph Smith has stated in his testimony.. "For I had seen a vision; I knew it, and I knew that God knew it, and I could not deny it, neither dared I do it" My wife knew that God had spoke to her.. and she could not deny it either. The convincing comes not from the arm of flesh.. but by the testimony and witness of the Holy Ghost to our souls. It one will not listen to the Spirit of God... then one will not hear what needs to be heard. Listen for his answer, not yours.

  • @jancy82520

Most people I have found are truly afraid to ask. It has been said.. Be careful what you pray for.. you may get an answer.

My wife is a prime example of this. For 40 years she lived in California & believed what others told her about Mormons. She wanted nothing to do with them and felt it was her duty to convert the missionaries who came to her door. She had the attitude that no matter what.. she did not want to be a Mormon. She prayed and got a different answer from God.

  • @jancy82520

Every person is responsible for their own testimony concerning God and the Christ. As Christ told Peter after he asked him.. Who do you think that I am? Peter answered.. "Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God". And what did Jesus say to him? Blessed art thou, ....: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. Peter received direct revelation from God as to the nature of the man called Jesus. Ask and ye shall receive.

  • @jancy82520

It is I who must "prove" it to you? No.. it is not I. It is God. Those who have their minds made up that Joseph is not a prophet have eyes but can not see. They are already blinded by preconceived ideas and notions. For I have learned that since we already have only ONE Bible.. and so many religions have sprung out this ONE source.. scholars can not agree on what the bible says. If they did.. there would be only ONE Faith, One Lord, One Baptism. Joseph is God's prophet.

  • @jancy82520

Let me ask you... in the scriptures.. the Old Testament.. did it mention the name Jesus Christ once? NO.. it did not. Yet everyone points to the comments made by the prophets as prophesying about Jesus. They did not know Joseph Smith was his name.. they just knew that a prophet would be raised up in the last days to restore all things before the great and dreadful day of the Lord. There is no desperation here. The hints are all through the scriptures.. you must find them.

  • Through out time.. there have always been apostates of the Church.. even in Christ's day who believed the same way you do. They are right and everyone else is wrong.. and they do whatever they can to destroy what everyone else has. You might think it is incorrect.. you lost your faith.. and to make yourself feel better.. you try to pull people to your way of thinking. I have a testimony that Joseph Smith is a prophet. I know that the Book of Mormon is true.

  • Since Smith has yet to make a prophesy that came true, you have exactly no basis to built that assertion upon.

And now knowing that the BOM has been plagiarized by Smith, the erroneous assumption Smith was a prophet without ever having correct or inspired is miraculous indeed!

  • You said: Smith has yet to make a prophesy that came true.....

Perhaps you should finish your book you are reading first.. Other people would disagree with you.

  • @MrNirom With the thousands of different people who did extensive studies throughout the decades and showed that satan and prophet of satan invented mormonism and used Jesus Christ name on the mormons so called church, means that Easter is NOT for mormons, its for the children of God and the brothers and sisters of Christ

  • @secretbandmember2

I don't know the thousands of different people you are talking about.. or what "extensive" studies they have done.. but this much I know. From the time that the 14 year old boy Joseph Smith received his 1st vision.. Satan and his band of demons have done whatever they could to stop the work of God from moving forward. You are right in one thing you said here.. Easter is not for Mormons.. it is for the entire world!!! For Christ died for all that they may be saved.

  • @MrNirom You see this is why Easter isnt for mormons.. demon mormons like yourself are glorifying joseph smith the prophet of satan.. the mormons have this sick fixation for competing with the Catholics, and since theres a competition, you tell me when you see Mass tomorrow from the Vatican which is more sacred, easter isnt for mormons, Christ died for us, not the children of satan, because satan and prophet of satan invented mormonism

  • @secretbandmember2

Christ did not come for the righteous like yourself.. but for the sinner.. like me. It seems if you have no need for Christ nor his word.

I am so impressed with your Christian Judgments!! Where did you learn those from?

The Christ that I worship tells me to:

    "Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;

What does your Christ tell you to do?

  • @MrNirom Save it you mormons are invalid

  • @secretbandmember2

Ah yes.. show me your Christian spirit and how a true Christian would act. By their fruits ye shall know them!

Your fruits are obvious.. they are not of Christ!

  • @MrNirom Save it your damn mormon demon..nothing you mormons say is valid... you people dont know Christ, all you people know is to mock Jesus Christ because thats what satan and prophet of satan joseph smith said to do

  • @secretbandmember2

Ah.. you seem to have all the information stored in your head but fail to bring it forth for all to see. Joseph Smith has never mocked Jesus Christ any more than any of the Prophets have. Joseph... like Moses, Abraham, Jacob, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Noah and many more all held the keys of their dispensations.. and they all turned over their keys to Joseph. This is the last dispensation and he holds all the keys to all of them. He is in the service of his God!

  • I'm reading 'The Prophesies of Joseph Smith' by Duane Crowther and on the first page I find this: "When the word of the prophet shall come to pass, then shall the prophet be known, that the Lord hath truly sent him. But the prophet, which shall presume to speak a word in my name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or that shall speak in the name of other gods, even that prophet shall die."

  • Crowther shows that Joseph smith made several dozen prophecies that have been fulfilled, and many prophecies from antiquity have been fulfulled by him, something that could not have been faked over time and time again by Joseph smith, if, as critics believe, he were a fraud. Over 400 prophecies from scriptural texts are dealt with in this volume. For those wishing to learn of the truthfulness of the prophetic claims of Joseph Smith, this is an important addition to one's LDS library.

  • Its funny and sad what people think they know about are religion, but its probably not entirely their fault they might of gotten their info from a Anti-Mormons or people who look negatively upon us.

  • If you want to find out the truth about a church or a religion or anything, you can ask god personally. One of his apostles wrote in the bible:

"5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. 6 But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.."James 1

I have done this and found many answers to my questions.

    Jesus lives and loves us!

  • thanks for posting this video.... i've been watching different videos on youtube about mormons-there are so many videos about their so-called secrets and crazy beliefs; but the funny thing is all those videos are made by people who aren't of the faith;the other funny thing is that there are much more responses to those than videos that are actually made by people of that faith.

  • is it true that mormons only stopped practicing polygamy so that utah would be accepted for statehood?if not what was the reason?

  • NO.. that is not the reason.. but it was one of many for the Mormons to consider. The great reason was the United States Governement told the leaders of the Church that if polygamy was not stopped.. every leader and every member who practiced it.. would be put in prison.. plus every church building, temple and all property would be seized. They told them they could believe in polygamy but could not practice it. But the church going world wide.. polygamy could not go with it.

  • i don't know, seems to me every religion has had people who sacrificed their property and/or lives for what they believed in,that sounded like a pretty weak reason not to show the world and your god that your are a true believer by sacrificing some worldly possessions and/or freedoms, why would a religion going world wide affect it's core beliefs?sorry to say but that reasoning makes your church seem a bit fickle and confused.

  • Oh.. the Mormon people did not give it up. The president of the Church went to the Lord and asked what was to be done. It was the Lord who told him what to say.

When the Church would become a world wide church.. one could not expect its members to practice polygamy in countries that forbade it. And if all your leaders and property of the Church are gone.. and people put in prison.. what is left of the Church? The women and children. They suffer.

  • Problem is.. we can ridicule the people back then about even asking God about it... but it is history now. We in this time period have NO control over what they did in the past. We live with it. It would be interesting to visit a parallel universe to see what the outcome would have been had they disregarded the Order from the Government. Would we still have polygamy today?.. or just a whole bunch of dead Mormons that died earlier than they should have? We will never know.

  • More importantly, they stopped because God told them to stop!

  • God would never encourage one of his children to leave the covenant with him. The evil spirit teaches a man that he must not pray... and that he must not live up to promises made.

  • Thank you for post this.

  • People are asked the question.. they repond.. and we clarify.
