U.S. military advisors arrived beginning in 1950. U.S. involvement escalated in the early 1960s, with U.S. troop levels tripling in 1961and tripling again in 1962, one year before this junk was aired and enjoyed by Americans.
@OrodesIII US involvement didn't escalate until 1964. BTW, if you haven't noticed, there is a war in Afghanistan going on right now. Why are YOU wasting time on You Tube's vapid trash while so many are being killed abroad? YOUR shallowness in arguing a pointless issue is hard to comprehend.
@OrodesIII This was a good TV show-Junk is the televison shows that we have today-Back then televison was wholesome -Todays shows are trash -they can't even write a good script so they result to reality TV shows
I saw Shelley Fabares in an interview a few years ago, talking about her friendship with Annette and how much she loves her and I have to say that, to hear her talk about Annette the way she did, you had to know how much she grieves for the illness that is taking her friends lifestyle away from her, She shared so much with her and in their younger years, even dreamed about the men they would marry. Theirs was a true friendship and still is. Shelley Fabares, I admire your loyalty to your friends.
Donna Reed show was a real staple when I was growing up - Mary Stone was a definite crush and as I got older - found that Donna Reed was a beautiful woman and a great actress ... Here to Eternity and Wondereful Life along with a movie with John Wayne as her love interest ( the name escapes me ) ... Shelley was just hot and I think she still is today ... I think she is married to Mike Farrell of MASH fame ... Jeff Stone ... I always thought could have been a brother to Elvis ...great show !
OMG...she's not only heavenly gorgeous, but also sings like an angel...she's earned her wings and her Ascension into the Light; I'd be surprised if she's still on this earth....may God bless Shelly Fabares' soul forever and ever for blessing this world with her blessed presence...and talents.
you want to see the rest of this great sitcom released on DVD? Join the Facebook campaign--"Bring The Donna Reed Show Season 4 to DVD" and let other classic TV fans know too. Thanks!
I grew up with "The Donna Reed Show" on Nick-at-Nite growing up. I LOVE this show--and Shelley Fabares!!! LOL! I think "DRS" was better scripted and had better, and for the time realistic plots, than "Leave It To Beaver," "Father Knows Best," or "Andy Griffith."
Does anyone know if the season's 4, 6, & 7 that dh1173 spoke of will now be released on DVD since they have released the first season and season 2 is on the way? Thanks for the post!
Well johneangel, nice handle..hint, hint!! I actually e-chatted with Ms. Reed's daughter who holds the rights to all the episodes and she said yes, if demand is popular enough, which judging by the response to season 1 they will be!!!
lol, I had the hots for her when I was a small child watching this show. I grew up watching this on Nick at Nite in the 80's it was awesome. I wish they played them now instead of family matters! thats not classic TV!
thing is for at least the past two generations of whites this is the sort of thing that makes them gag -- it was pretty escapist at the time, imagine how much farther from reality it might be now.
Boy,do I remember this Donna Reed episode.I was eight when I first saw it and first learned the word Wholesome from this episode. This seems appropriate because The Donna Reed Show has been described as Wholsesome.
This was a time when people respected eachother , now nobody gives a crap about anyone ...values and respect are just words from the past , we all have created this mess , it's not to late to repear all that is broken ....let' s begin just by saying allo , and i do you do , it dosen't sound like much , but believe me , it's a start !
I heard for some reason only 2-3 random shows aired in syndication from Season 4. Go figure. So the rest of that Season (34 episodes) have not been seen since original broadcast in 1962 or so..
Wow, I didn't know season 4 never re-ran! I happen to have an episode from that season! Check back in the next couple of weeks! I will post a clip from it (Episode 119 dated Oct. 19, 1961, with Candy Moore as Angie)!
Seasons 4, 6 & 7 (1961-62, 1963-64 and 1964-65) haven't been re-ran since the mid '60's either. I heard it was because of the song copyrights why season 4 hasn't been, Shelley, Paul and James Darren sang their hits that season! After Shelley left, she DID return for SEVEN episodes during seasons 6 & 7!
@darbykat I, too, have some season 4 episodes from years ago when Nick-at-Nite aired their week-long "Donnathon." The VHS quality is crap because they're so old and because I've watched them so many times!
This is my favorite episode and my favorite scene. Shelley showed her ability to be sexy here and her body would be showcased in a bikini in the films: Ride the Wild Surf, Girl Happy, Spinout, Hold On & Clambake.
This was one of my fav TDRS episodes! It really showed Shelley's range, season five is one of the BEST seasons of the show, ironically, Patty Petersen would join the cast in the next episode.
This was one of my all time favorite family shows & another one is Father Knows Best. I have just noticed that the first season of The Donna Reed Show will released on dvd on 10/28/08. This is fantastic great news. I hope one day soon, they will release on dvd, all of the season shows. It will probably be a little pricey, but for this show-to have all of the seasons on Dvd, but I will make this great show an exception. I love this show. This show is a great & clean fun family show. no fun now
Shelly Fabares was beautiful

How could Americans watch such vapid trash while so many were being killed in Viet Nam?
Such shallowness is hard to comprehend.

@OrodesIII At the time that this episode came out, there was no war in Vietnam.
