The Institute for Figuring's web site explains it best, but in a nutshell it's a mixture between Art / craft / science / maths / environment. Helping to raise awareness of the damage being done to coral reefs through crocheting forms using a basic mathematical algorithm. These forms represent hyperbolic space, and strongly resemble sea life. The exhibition was amazing to be part of.
