I am tossing between one of these and a KR Megavibe to use in front of a JC 120 with a G&L ASAT Special Semihollow Deluxe. Which one of these do you find best for general mellow rhythms and/or especially Gilmourish sounds. If you had to choose one which would it be.
wrong. the gold fulltone sounds nothing like a real univibe. Weight is meaningless. Whether the transformer is on the inside or outside means nothing.
@sheetsofsound The difference isn't just that the transformer is on the inside, it uses different component and is designed differently. It doesn't sound like the newer dejavibes (i have both..)
There's a thread on Huge Rack Inc's Forum named 'Alternative to KR Megavibe'
where Desperado of Vertex Effect Systems (who has repaired countless univibes) compare the various univibe clones, look it up.
The old goldbox dejavibe sounds closer to a real one to him aswell.
I still disagree. I've had 3 gold ones. None of them sounds like a real univibe. The KR and Aqua are the closest to a real one. I don't much care what any of the reviews say. Most of the reviews are crap and are paid for anyway.
Been listening some more to this and it sounds like a univibe except it sounds as if they substituted the vibrato of the original univibe with a tremolo instead
I don't think it sounds like a univibe, but it sounds very cool. Very liquidy, i'm sure hendrix would've liked it if he was still alive.
Thanks for posting the demo. Although, it would be nice if you could let the sound sustain more and restrain yourself from wanking off on the guitar so much.
I thought you had a great sound before you patched into the tube vibe. In fact the sounds that you made made me think you were playing a six string bass.
My main problem with the current vibe models are the shape of the wave. I percieve the pulse of the original to be more like a heart beat,
wuh-wuh,, wuh-wuh,, wuh-wuh,, etc. The current models all seem to have more of a standard sine wave sound. wuh, wuh, wuh. to me this doesn't give the same effect. it's like it's too perfect or something. too constant.
That being said, i've only ever heard the effect on hendrix's blue wild angel concert. That constant sense of change and imperfection, nuance, is what I love about the album, and the uni vibe.
I completely agree with you, I think it's really a great sounding effect, but it kinda misses the 'proper' or 'authentic' uni-vibe sound- but still an ultra fantastic sounding effect ...
the 4 hundred dollar price tag is a bit hard to get over though ... :O(
It definitely sounds like a univibe but I would agree that it doesn't sound like the univibes I'm used to hearing. It's got a lot of 'EEE' and 'OOH' at the extremities of the phase sweep and quite a swoopy sounding transition (if you get what I mean by that :P)
But then again the guy has the intensity set pretty high...
At 7:26 it actually sounds a bit like my Roger Mayor VoodooVibe+ with a flat battery (not necessarily a bad think if you like the sound)
You get the Vibe sound + more because like Sheetsofsound said, "the tubes in this give you tremendous headroom if you want to use fuzz or OD in front and not get splatty solid state distortion".
In some ways, the original Uni Vibe is obsolete to the Tube Vibe. Yes, there are many Vibe clones that stay true to the original with the photo-cell technology, but they still aren't built the same and they still sound different. The reason I say the Tube Vibe IMO is the successor of the original/clones is due to its tube-driven capabilities.
Well it seems Effectrode have made this by just making a mid range sweep and fluctuating bass boost. Also the origonal univibe didnt use tubes or anything, it used some kinda of optical circuitry, cant remember what its called. But that was one of the secret ingredients.
This obviously isn't a univibe. The tubes are used on the input side of the circuit and for the sweeping. It's got it's own thing going on and sounds nothing like a wah-wah. You lost your credibility by saying the fulltone is the closest to the original. It's not. If you want the original tone, the megavibe and the aquavibe are the best I've heard but the tubes in this give you tremendous headroom if you want to use fuzz or OD in front and not get splatty solid state distortion.
Sure it is. I've had Vibes that have that wah thing in them. This isn't one of them however. Fulltone is great.....but for a real '69 Univibe, IMO, the Megavibe takes it.
Great demo, possibly the best on TV. I understand you've got a 4D version. Could you please clarify which position is the internal Blend control in? 12 o'clock, 3pm, fully counter-clockwise (sounds like the latter one)? Thanks and keep up with great demos.
2:40...Is one heck of a vibe tone which really gave me chills down my spine....Too good to be true....

No comments on the Tube Vibe anyone? - sounds good to me - but hugely expensive and a big piece of board taken up.

You need to set the trimpot inside the gold deja and max it for it to sound like an original.
I've had an original/KR/Aqua/gold deja/custom shop deja/deja2/ultra2 and mojo
The KR is my favorite because it has more low end, but it doesn't sound like the original.
The original univibe didn't have unity gain with the vol turned up, all of the clones have unity gain or more and less subtle
The forum post i talked about isn't a review and it favors pedals that are no longer being sold, read it...

The old goldbox fulltone dejavibe that ran off AC wall voltage actually was closer to the original univibes than the aquavibe, megavibe and mojovibe
They sounded nothing like the new DC-powered dejavibes though.. The new fulltone dejavibes are thin sounding, not very close to the originals.
The old gold box ones weighs about three times as much as my megavibe.. crazy
built-in AC transformer and IEC outlet.
That may have been what he's referring to sheetsofsound

how so? I wanna get some form or uni-vibe. preferably as similar to the original sound-wise as possible. what would you recommend?

If you can afford it, any of the fulltone deja-vibes are pretty authentic. A cheaper option that sounds really good is the danelectro chicken salad.

@davididutdacoon Sorry for the late response (8 months, jeez) :)
If you're still on the market for a uni-vibe that sounds more like the old ones i'd suggest KR Mega Vibe or Sweetsound Ultra Vibe / Mojo Vibe
Alot of people swear by the Foxrox Aquavibe's, but from what i've heard they sound a bit thin - they're supposedly more tweakable though.

I don't consider the aquavibe as authentic as the KR Megavibe or the Sweetsound Ultravibe / Mojovibe even though the latter is battery-powered.
All of them great vibes though.
