  • Lets hope the RAF purchase these brilliant aircraft, would make the UK have the newest fleet of air-to-air refuellers

  • @ozeangruen

If history is a requirement to win the bid, then consider this. Boeing produced the first aircraft designed for mid-air refueling. Excluding experimentation planes of the 1920's such as the Airco's which tested the feasibility of mid air refueling. So Boeing has a good track record from retrofitted B29s to the KB50J.

Also look how long the KC-135 has been reliably passing gas to allied aircraft!!!

  • even all parts of the so called american Iphone is producing and getting assembled in China. Do you really think Boing as well as Airbus cares about workers in Germany or USA??? Both care about stockholders thats all. I hate this patriotic nonsens.

  • @ozeangruen actually the kc767 is build in southern u.s. in louisiana. and no boeing is build in china, they're all bulid in everet washington, only airbus a320 in being build in china.

  • Think US Airforce firsts decision is based on the fact that Quality is important. The Germans supply that in every way The Germans invented the first Bomber (Arado-234) Jetfighter 262 and the first Heli FA-223 the forerunner of Chinook.

  • @ozeangruen ok but how much military experience does airbus have.

  • Boing does not really producing parts itself

Even Boing uses German and European suppliers for parts. Its assembeld in America thats correct. For example JenaOptic a German Company is supplier of Boing 75 German partners and suppliers producing in Germany parts and system solutions for Boing Telair International from Miesbach in Bavaria is developing and producing the Freightsystem for the Dreamliner

  • everybody should look again it seems that airbus will no longer get the job and if the people in congress get thier way airbus never will which is good and bad because Boeing needs competition to be creative

  • well dont consume to much TV...

  • saw your next new tanker today in southern US, just got its first paint job... looks good!

  • I hope to see it soon here in Italy! ;)

  • it didn't have the italian flag motif on the tail though, only a small circular mark with italy flag colors on the side.

  • Yes, that's the final paint. The flag on the rudder of the first plane, had only an advertising purpose.

  • i should have taken a picture, you could have been the first italian to see it!

    maybe next time

  • No need for more comment.

  • Right, also because Boeing has managed this project in a very bad way. I'm happy the Italian Air Force has chosen the 767 'cause is better, for performance, reliability (especially in the military use) and able to land in any field, in shorter runway, also non prepared, but for the American Industries it's a disastre.

  • After the big expansion in the helicopter market, (Marine one with the AgustaWestland EH101 Merlin is the last big example), the european industries are entering in the american military market in a way unthinkable years ago.

Many people in the aeronautical world say that this kind of choices are just "political gift", but anyway the Europeans are there.

    Regards.

  • @Deaglet i don't thing in a political gift, i think that Europeans and Americans are understanding that they must cooperate to rest as first actors in the world scene

  • Only 4 KC-767 made for Italian Air Force and 4 for Japan Air Force.
