I still dream me singing like Mario. Even if I am not that young anymore. But it makes me feel so good when I imagine this voice coming from my mouth.
Das ist mein Lied, denn ich heisse Lucia! Meine Mutter hat damals gesagt: "Wenn das ein Mädchen wird, dann heisst es Lucia!" So bin ich zu meinem Namen gekommen!
Could you please check this guy out. He is one of my friends and is an amazing singer. His dream is to take up singing as a profession and just taking a look and leaving an honest rating.
You need your head examined jonesthephones. Pavarotti and Bocelli don't have the capacity to bring this emotion to their singing or the timbre and breadth of voice to pull it off. In other words, they lack the goods. Lanza was a genius light years ahead of his time, and all modern opera stars testify to his influence on them.
@Mikep487 Thanks Mike, Had my head examined recently... and I still hold the same views I expressed. Still, isn't it nice that we can agree to disagree and enjoy our own preferred performances in peace. Cheers, Alun
Mario Lanza - like no other performer, resonates a unique talent that commerates a time past when raw talent was fused with passion from the soul. We all miss you Mario, and will never forget your passion for life expressed through your music.
I grew up in a small provincial town of Taukent in south Kazakhstan, and my 60-years old teacher taught us this song and was making us sing to this song every class and I was amazed of this song. Now 13 years later I finally found the artist. I felt like I am 13 years younger now. Thank you!!!
I love it I'm i xylophone band wanted to search this song because this is one of the songs were practicing but we never knew the lyrics but now I do! And love love love it, beatiful music : )
i am wrong about lanza never lip-synching. he did and was lambasted by the press for it. unfortunately, it just gave them one more reason to discredit him. however, the power of his voice is clearly evident in this kinescope. you can hear it "in the room".
@jgraif Lip-synching was very common back then. If a singer (or group) made a mistake, the whole show was ruined. Shows were recorded on film, and could not be taped over as could be done with video tape. Notice that Lanza has the lyrics that he his reading so as not to make a mistake.
Ahhh...heard my Venetian Gondola singer belt this out and the Venetions went nuts! I promised myself I'd go home and find out more info on this song and now I must order Mario Lanza album! Thanks so much for posting this!
I am from southeast Oklahoma and we have very few outlets for cultural expansion. But my grandfather introduced me to true musical talent by playing me Lanza. My father wasn't around so the only father figures I had were Grandad and Mario. I have been to opera houses in Milan, Rome, Naples, Paris, London, and New York but I have never heard a voice so moving as Mario Lanza's. I know that Caruso was likely the greatest, but to dismiss Lanza deals a great blow to my gut. It's simply ridiculous.
are you kidding me??? he takes me away from earth and fly's me to the moon..he lets me see spring time on jupiter and mars..Oh Mario...you must of fallen from the sky because you sing like an angel...
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
@billythedoggie He was a Hollywood made.good looks but nothing special in his voice..scroll down for Caruso, Beniamino Gigli and Jussi Bjorling...those are indeed celestial voices...
@MrRoncoto just like that you dismiss his voice...saying nothing special ...true those others you mention...they had the voice only God himself can instill but saying this man has nothing special ...is like saying the earth spinning around our sun..is nothing special, its like saying...the moon, the stars, and all the planets...in the universe...is nothing special..no my friend...just like guitmartiman has said over 7 months ago....Mario Lanza's is one of the best tenors who ever lived...
@billythedoggie .Subject:Operatic Tenors. I do recognize Mario Lanza was a great tenore di grazia but "he can not be considered an operatic tenor and hence nothing special in the operatic field". His apperances on opera stages were limited to two or three.Madame Butterfly was one of them and his performance was much more than excelent.I do prefer Mario singing romantic songs such as Because,Granada,Be my Love for ever...,Because your mine..& many others. .
@MrRoncoto this is what i do not understand. what does his lack of performances "on the opera stage" have to do with his ability to SING THE MUSIC??? it appears that everyone has forgotten that in the year he died, he was scheduled to be the first american ever to open the season at la scala. so, i suppose the management of la scala were wrong about him as well??
@MrRoncoto DO check out WHO influenced YOUNG Pavarotti BIG-time, and WHO Pav. would attempt to imitate from his many film performances; none other than 'your' Hollywood made good looker with "nothing special in his voice"[sic]. I politely & sincerely urge you to listen further to the astounding passion & power of ONE of the truly GREAT voices of the 20th.c. Certainly, like Elvis after him, Hollywood 'made' ML, but as to 'nothing special' ~ come off it!!! Recant, Sir, I say! Recant!!!!
@MrRoncoto i don't like to play the "trained musician card", but in this case, i must challenge you to support your off-handed remark with some considered MUSICAL reasons for it. even if you do not consider lanza to be a "great" tenor, how can you not hear anything special in his voice? gigli had a wonderful voice but even his interpretations of these songs sounded like vocal exercises as opposed to heart-felt performances.
@andTheCreativist: click on my username and you'll find an original and a remastered version of Santa Lucia performed by Enrico Caruso - the first tenor to record this.
Witch Ann Cappelletti, the sorceror of So. Philadelphia, 1/2 sister of Barbara Bush, witch daughters of Aleister Crowley, killed Mario's wife with a voodoo doll. No doubt she killed Mario because she wanted him and he didn't want her. I will post more when I learn it.
Thanks for this video. To me, Mario Lanza is the best tenor of all time. It's sad he died young. May his soul rest in peace. He's probably singing in heaven.
No, the one that brought these wonderful Neapolitan songs to the world was the Neapolian genious Enrico Caruso with his recordings from 1915 to 1918. Some of the songs were even composed/written for Enrico Caruso.
@tomfroekjaer Caruso was the First you are right and no one can take anything away from that ,But i meant that Mario lanza btought it to a wider variety puplic using the newly founded mass entertainment Medium at the time that was The movies (and Television) so he was what we would now call an Icon something Elvis did in his own way later on :)
@luigiluevano You would rather send it to me by free LOL
Now serious it depends on the conservation state. Let's imagine it is just like new but opened, etc. If it is an LP disc or whatever (multiple recordings), you should sell it for about $10so you can just get rid of it quickly. If you want to make sure it will have a dignifying new owner etc., you sould really find a professional vinyl disc collector maybe they will give you $1... maybe $50, who knows? There are some channels here at YT.
Mario Lanza is a truly magnificent tenor. He was a pioneer of the great italian music industry. Born in 1472 he quickly rose to fame after composing and performing his first ballad at the age of 7. At 12 he wrote his first symphony which was regarded as one of the greatest compositions ever to come out of Italy. he continued his musical studies at the Arligato Institude in Catanzaro, Italy. After gratuating he began work with Mozart to create the "The Happy Birthday Song".
@comedian111elf That's a rather subjective assertion, but you'll get no serious argument from me. It's like comparing great guitarists, they all have their strengths, but it's hard to say any one of them is the definitive best, but we all have our favorites, and Mr. Lanza is definitely one who could be considered, though arguably, the best tenor who ever lived.
@guitmartiman I see, what you mean... I was only pointing out, that many people think caruso or pavarotti were the best only because that is what the mainstream media is telling us... wich is sometimes wrong... but I agree with you.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

He had to stop acting because was badly overweight.
Died shortly after. Very sad story...
He was Italian, he'd like to eat...
Very good voice though. I'd recommend his version of old popular Italian classic "Ciribiribin". I bet must be on YT somewhere.
