Could you please check this guy out. He is one of my friends and is an amazing singer. His dream is to take up singing as a profession and just taking a look and leaving an honest rating.

    Thanks

  • You need your head examined jonesthephones. Pavarotti and Bocelli don't have the capacity to bring this emotion to their singing or the timbre and breadth of voice to pull it off. In other words, they lack the goods. Lanza was a genius light years ahead of his time, and all modern opera stars testify to his influence on them.

  • @Mikep487 Thanks Mike, Had my head examined recently... and I still hold the same views I expressed. Still, isn't it nice that we can agree to disagree and enjoy our own preferred performances in peace. Cheers, Alun

  • He's handsome :)

  • How did Elvis do with his Italian?

  • so what

  • Mario Lanza - like no other performer, resonates a unique talent that commerates a time past when raw talent was fused with passion from the soul. We all miss you Mario, and will never forget your passion for life expressed through your music.

  • I have to sing this for my singing exam :) but I'm not allowed to slide up to notes like he does.

  • Had he lived another 20 years, I think there would be a lot more opera listeners out there. He "modernized" it for his time.

  • Lastima que Mario Lanza murió tan joven. Una de las mejores voces de todos los tiempos!

  • @fadoca1937 Hi jules the angel calling did u like this . let me know.

  • I grew up in a small provincial town of Taukent in south Kazakhstan, and my 60-years old teacher taught us this song and was making us sing to this song every class and I was amazed of this song. Now 13 years later I finally found the artist. I felt like I am 13 years younger now. Thank you!!!

  • Awesome.... What more can one say.

  • You can just imagine, with the shitty sound quality from the past, how beautiful his voice really was.

  • Why 27 people dislike this video? It's very very very good video because it's video Mario Lanza-the world's greatest tenor

  • @crazyman2141 wow. Your cousin rocks. Wow.

  • AMAZING...Absolutely F-ing Amazing....Thank you for this post

  • LOVE IT!!

  • Lui, Îi plac diamantele, valorile si destinele, l-a chemat sa incânte Raiul tot!

  • Amazing. Such depth and feeling in each note. Thanks for posting

  • Over the top...The class and finesse of Pavarotti or Bocelli outshine this sort of performance by a mile! Thanks for posting

  • @jonesthephones yes, if you prefer a singer who must resort to falsetto , or pavarotti, only a so-so tenor with no feeling in his delivery.

  • wow

  • Yes...

  • Amazing!!!

  • Bellísimo!!!

  • It'z me, Mario!

  • semplicemente fantastico!!! Una voce senza eguali! Elio cavriana

  • MARAVILHOSO!!!

  • MARAVILHOSO!!!

  • never heard that good music and voice good work very sad he died :(

  • Too damn good. No human can possess a voice like that. Conclusion, he's an alien from another planet, another galaxy altogether.

  • @crapfacejoe He was not an alien, He was human gifted with a voice from God

  • @jennifer88177 Well, it's more likely there are aliens than a God, so I would say he's a martian with a heavenly voice.

  • Lanza is God !! No one can compare not even Jehova himselvs !!!!!!

  • Just think in which direction the today's music is going with rap when you hear this piece of gold.I jst can't stand rap.Sorry.

  • çok güzel ve huzurlu bir müzikk... very beautiful and happiness musicc..

  • Brings tears to my eyes!

  • Come era bello! Peccato ch´è morto così giovane, nel fior della sua potenza artistica. Mai sarà un altro come lui.

  • merde

  • i am wrong about lanza never lip-synching. he did and was lambasted by the press for it. unfortunately, it just gave them one more reason to discredit him. however, the power of his voice is clearly evident in this kinescope. you can hear it "in the room".

  • @jgraif Lip-synching was very common back then. If a singer (or group) made a mistake, the whole show was ruined. Shows were recorded on film, and could not be taped over as could be done with video tape. Notice that Lanza has the lyrics that he his reading so as not to make a mistake.

  • Beautiful. Nuff said.

  • lanza never lip-synched on television, corelli did, including using a 1960's era recording in 1982.

  • anan zaa.

  • Bene.

  • this has simply made my day. gorgeous!

  • Santa Lucia

  • Fantastico!

  • Bless you for posting this tribute to Mario Lanza - the world's greatest tenor. The sentiment and passion are his unique gift.

  • Where did you find this one. Thank you Michael M

  • Bellisima!

  • once u share in Youtube, it's not rare anymore :D

  • geweldig!

  • Ahhh...heard my Venetian Gondola singer belt this out and the Venetions went nuts! I promised myself I'd go home and find out more info on this song and now I must order Mario Lanza album! Thanks so much for posting this!

  • Beautiful! Thanks for posting. I grew up in the 1950s, listening to stories and songs of my father's two favorites -- Caruso and Lanza.

  • A GREAT ARTIST. THANKS FOR POSTING.

  • I am from southeast Oklahoma and we have very few outlets for cultural expansion. But my grandfather introduced me to true musical talent by playing me Lanza. My father wasn't around so the only father figures I had were Grandad and Mario. I have been to opera houses in Milan, Rome, Naples, Paris, London, and New York but I have never heard a voice so moving as Mario Lanza's. I know that Caruso was likely the greatest, but to dismiss Lanza deals a great blow to my gut. It's simply ridiculous.

  • @therichesfan Bravo Bravo !

  • griffin dunne and davide naughton sang this in

the film an american werewolf in london in the moors

scene at the beginning of the film but ony a short verse

    of the song.

  • this made me get tears! what a voice, what passion as he sings! love that little smile and then the big dramatic ending. bravo, mario!

  • that just made my nipples hard ...

  • Beautiful voice!!!

  • LO MEJOR DE TODOS MARIO LANZA!!

  • The Greatest Tenor in the history of the world - no equal, Bravissimo

  • are you kidding me??? he takes me away from earth and fly's me to the moon..he lets me see spring time on jupiter and mars..Oh Mario...you must of fallen from the sky because you sing like an angel...

  • @MrRoncoto just like that you dismiss his voice...saying nothing special ...true those others you mention...they had the voice only God himself can instill but saying this man has nothing special ...is like saying the earth spinning around our sun..is nothing special, its like saying...the moon, the stars, and all the planets...in the universe...is nothing special..no my friend...just like guitmartiman has said over 7 months ago....Mario Lanza's is one of the best tenors who ever lived...

  • @billythedoggie .Subject:Operatic Tenors. I do recognize Mario Lanza was a great tenore di grazia but "he can not be considered an operatic tenor and hence nothing special in the operatic field". His apperances on opera stages were limited to two or three.Madame Butterfly was one of them and his performance was much more than excelent.I do prefer Mario singing romantic songs such as Because,Granada,Be my Love for ever...,Because your mine..& many others. .

  • @MrRoncoto this is what i do not understand. what does his lack of performances "on the opera stage" have to do with his ability to SING THE MUSIC??? it appears that everyone has forgotten that in the year he died, he was scheduled to be the first american ever to open the season at la scala. so, i suppose the management of la scala were wrong about him as well??

  • @MrRoncoto DO check out WHO influenced YOUNG Pavarotti BIG-time, and WHO Pav. would attempt to imitate from his many film performances; none other than 'your' Hollywood made good looker with "nothing special in his voice"[sic]. I politely & sincerely urge you to listen further to the astounding passion & power of ONE of the truly GREAT voices of the 20th.c. Certainly, like Elvis after him, Hollywood 'made' ML, but as to 'nothing special' ~ come off it!!! Recant, Sir, I say! Recant!!!!

  • @MrRoncoto i don't like to play the "trained musician card", but in this case, i must challenge you to support your off-handed remark with some considered MUSICAL reasons for it. even if you do not consider lanza to be a "great" tenor, how can you not hear anything special in his voice? gigli had a wonderful voice but even his interpretations of these songs sounded like vocal exercises as opposed to heart-felt performances.

  • Stunning performance!!!! One of my favorite Tenors! Thank you for posting this video clip! My grandparents say many Neapolitan songs....

  • great job Mario!! you're unforgettable!!

  • ...forever...forever in our hearts...

    Nycolas C.

  • Excellent.

  • grandios. wünschte , ER Hatte Länger Gelebt , Haben , Er war ein erstaunliches Talent und eine wunderbare Stimme .

  • He had a beautiful voice~I couldn't help but notice that he was born the same year that the great tenor Enrico Caruso died.

  • @stoneagequeen53 God had to replace his gift to us with one of equal value.

  • You can get the full version with Enrico Caruso's version....

  • Hello, I am suppose to learn the full version of this song.

Can anyone dirrect me to a video where a tenor sings the full version instead of two stanzas? (No offense Mr. Lanza)

And, does not the song start off with: "Sul mare luccica l'astro d'argento. Placida e l'onda, prospero e il vento."

  • Thanks for this video. To me, Mario Lanza is the best tenor of all time. It's sad he died young. May his soul rest in peace. He's probably singing in heaven.

  • This man was the one that brought these classic songs to a World wide audience

Pavaroti followed in his footsteps and brought his singing to the mases

  • No, the one that brought these wonderful Neapolitan songs to the world was the Neapolian genious Enrico Caruso with his recordings from 1915 to 1918. Some of the songs were even composed/written for Enrico Caruso.

  • @tomfroekjaer Caruso was the First you are right and no one can take anything away from that ,But i meant that Mario lanza btought it to a wider variety puplic using the newly founded mass entertainment Medium at the time that was The movies (and Television) so he was what we would now call an Icon something Elvis did in his own way later on :)

  • terrific. wish he had lived longer, he could have done even greater thing

  • rührend schön danke

  • i have a record cd of a collection of his songs could it sell for a lot, or at least a good sum?

  • @luigiluevano You would rather send it to me by free LOL

Now serious it depends on the conservation state. Let's imagine it is just like new but opened, etc. If it is an LP disc or whatever (multiple recordings), you should sell it for about $10so you can just get rid of it quickly. If you want to make sure it will have a dignifying new owner etc., you sould really find a professional vinyl disc collector maybe they will give you $1... maybe $50, who knows? There are some channels here at YT.

  • am I the only person who looked up Mario Lanza because of Heavenly Creatures?

  • Just mesmorizing and soooooo romantic...

  • How did he die so young?

  • @Ramadl59

    Heart attack....weight issues..

  • Let's hear it for my hometown's hero! BRAVO!

  • Marvellous!

  • I love you man, and I love your voice, very beautiful,I love and adore you voice.

  • hmmwer mag mit mir zu chatn oder camn sagt einfach bescheid ja ^^

  • I agree, THE BEST TENOR WHO EVER LIVED, sat at my fathers knee and listened, still have the wax records, taped them.

  • @narf410 Wax records!!! Amazing, make sure you're children treasure them.

  • Grandissimo! Ma non era bravo come Caruso...

  • awe. He seemed so happy then.. What a great smile for us at the end (and singing!)

  • semm'i napule paesà! *_*

  • belissimo, my eyes are raining!

  • another gem, please post some more of these!!!

  • Very nice...

  • ahhm..i think is a wonderful songg.!!!

    ^^

  • The greatest of them all!

  • What a find! Thanks for sharing! Mario Lanza was one of the greatest singers that ever lived!

  • wow, he's really gettin off on it. Cute.

  • wonderful voice even in bad sound quality his voice seems so melodious

  • One of the best tenors who ever lived!

  • @guitmartiman not one of the best my friend... THE BEST... r.i.p.

  • @comedian111elf That's a rather subjective assertion, but you'll get no serious argument from me. It's like comparing great guitarists, they all have their strengths, but it's hard to say any one of them is the definitive best, but we all have our favorites, and Mr. Lanza is definitely one who could be considered, though arguably, the best tenor who ever lived.

  • @guitmartiman I see, what you mean... I was only pointing out, that many people think caruso or pavarotti were the best only because that is what the mainstream media is telling us... wich is sometimes wrong... but I agree with you.

  • thanks

  • Thank you for this wonderful memory!

  • @Andresgirl1 Indeed, true sentiment in every syllable. The world's greatest tenor.

  • A Gem!! Love this song.

  • so strange to hear it in Italian, ive only heard the swedish one. very beautiful song in both languages :)

  • *curious*why does he need the score?

  • What a turn on, what a turn on

  • LoL hahahahaahhahahhahahahahhahaha!!!!!!!!!

  • BEAUTIFUL VOICE!! He's amazing!!!

  • XXX we shall nevr forget you Mario !!
