  • We used to have mechanics competition in Kungstregarden Stockholm every summer and this is the final happening of the day/evening. I miss the comp alot as I worked with Michael Kågered Racing there! There was about 6-8 TAFC teams who where competing of whos team got the fastet mechanics to start up the motor, pull out one cylinderhead and put it back and start it up again. Those where the days!!! Miss it alot!!!

  • With as many times they hit the throttle they are gonna burn the fuck out of the clutch.

  • impressive

  • it is also a monopropellent: has its own oxygen, which aids in the combustion sequence....

  • i love this video its awesome 8000 hp is friendly ujust have to like it enough

  • you know its nitromethane when it burns your nose when you breathe and your eyes water :)))))

  • @nhradrgracr109~ Methanol also burns your eyes.

  • @marek0086 well yeh i mean its the majority in the mix of fuel for these guys....alot of methanol and a drop of nitro lol CH3NO2!!!! :DDDD

  • @nhradrgracr109~ No. Majority is Nitromethane!

  • @marek0086 lol well yeh thats the outcome......nitrogenoxide mixed with methanol.....to makeeee.....nitromethane lol

  • @nhradrgracr109~ WTF?!..... Its like 90% Nitromethane and 10% Methanol!

  • @marek0086 wikipedia? lol

  • @marek0086 well anyway, i gotta wake up early for work.....but it was cool having this chat....cao......

  • @nhradrgracr109~ U dumbass!..... Nitromethane is made by mixing Propane and Nitric Acid at high temp!.... With a name like yours u really should know that!

U must be REALLY crap at chemistry.

  • @marek0086 well first i didnt take chemistry...so sorry for not knowing.....and second....why should i HAVE to know that when i only race a s/c dragster?? im not even IN top fuel......you wanna talk about 540ci big blocks then im up for it......

  • at the start didn't sound like 8000 american horses but once that nitro was dumped THATS MORE LIKE IT!!!! greatest sound EVER

  • Wow... I love it! As far as sounds go, it doesn't get much better than that.

  • its awesome seeing it turn from clear to a yellow nitro haze!

  • potwór.....aaarrrrrrrrrrrr

  • I always wondered why the rpms are up a little from idle before shutdown. Figured it was a condition to prevent hydro-lock maybe?

  • They normally run a little rich to be on the safe side. To shut down they turn off the fuel feed, so the mixture leans out just before it dies.

  • Makes sense, thanks guys...

  • It's because the engine leans out on the nitro fuel

  • vise versa its lean on methanol then when it gets nitro its super rich.

  • the chassi could never handle it.

  • it would smooth out your rear end gears and twist your frame in half with the drive shaft. 8000 hp isnt friendly

  • trans... thats all im going to say

  • Nitro becomes volatile when it is under pressure. A puddle of nitro on the ground will not light. Thats why alchohol is poured into the injector hat when the motor is being started.

  • Hell yeah!thats what racecars sound like! Nice video. Nice to hear that your camera also had problems to capture this deep sonorous bass sound of the TopFuel machine beside the "nitro crackles" as mine always does. Watching those kind of vids is nothing against the 'real' experience of you at the track, two of those cars are staging in and with the green light, the ground shakes and hell is unleashed!

WARNING: Watching T/F live will make you addicted!

  • nitro burns in its liquid state, thats why you see the giant header flames because it is being injected right into the cylinders as a raw liquid and coming out the exhaust valves still on fire. Its also why these cars have so much power because theyre pushing so much fuel into the cylinders and its full of oxy gen.

  • They've got a problem somewhere cuz that dragster took too long to start...

  • No it didn't. They start it with another gasoline engine :P

  • Thanks for the clarification MooJooBee. I have heard the opposite. I was told it explodes but that didnt make much sense to me. I looked it up and your right, my mistake.

  • Nitro doesnt actually burn it explodes, hence the term cackle. If you put a drop on the ground and hit it with a hammer it will explode.

  • It burns. As with any propellant or fuel, it may be fast, but it burns. And when combined with the other fuel it actually burns real slow which they like... but expands much more than other fuels. Much like gun powder, it doesn't explode but actually burns at a specific controlled rate.

  • One cool dragster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • sound like thunder from down under

  • iz dat thing messed up? do they need to fix it?

  • Nope, sounds perfectly normal to me. You can hear when it starts burning nitro(they startem on Gasoline most the time). The throttle blips near the end are to seat the clutch disk. The engine revs up when they cut the fuel because it went lean. All perfectly normal.

  • does Nitro burn in its liquid state?? Or is it the vapour that burns (like Gasoline)??

  • does Nitro burn in its liquid state?? Or is it the vapour that burns (like Gasoline)??

  • In short, yes it vaporizes. Wikipedia 'Nitromethane' for a full explanation.

  • nitro burns like diesle in a way. you can have a puddle of it and it will light but if its misted it will burn.

  • thanks for 'not' answering my question.

  • thanks for 'not' answering my question.

  • ooo gotta love the sounds of the combustion of nitro!!!

  • gosh that sounds really weird.

  • This is a fuel car. They start them on gas or alcohol before switching to nitro. You can see the crew man switch to nitro in the video.

  • joran persaker, on the high side!

  • The "TF4" on the rear wing gives the identity away a little me thinks!!!!!

  • schag has a bit right it sounded likea alcohol because they started it up on alcohol to get the engine hot, and then they went on nitro.

  • Nope this IS a TF!!! As I wrote before 1:24 in you'll hear the nitro kicking in!!!!

  • @SweBadboy207 It's very common to warm up fuel engines on alcohol or methanol. You can clearly hear the difference when the nitromethane starts feeding into the engine. Nice to see drag racing from places other than the US. Such a great sport no matter what language or culture you come from.

  • @SweBadboy207 at 1:24 doesnt he just pull the fuel switch

  • I think this is an alcohol car. Still cool though.
