  • Great, thanks for posting.

They guy on the left with his sword pointing behind him, is there a name for this kamae/gamae in shinkage ryu? Any answers would be appreciated.

  • Sha-no-Kamae...usually.

  • Thanks!

  • this looks more sangaku-intoriagy (might have spelled it wrong, but it means "rise together")

  • I notice Shinkage Ryu practitioners use much more elegant, slender Bokken compared to other Ryu. Kamiizumi of the Yagyu school is responsible for the Shinai is he not?

  • Yes he invented it. Its called a Shinai not a bokken It is split bamboo. So you can hit harder without injuring your sparring partner. In Aikido they use a similar Shinai inspired from ours. This Shinai is the same as it was 500 years ago.

  • In Yagyu Shinkage Ryu, it is called a Fukuro-jinai....it's a split bamboo rod in a leather case. Little different...actually a great deal different.

  • Man they have such good control over themsleves

  • I was always wondering what the idea was behind the Yagyu

Ryu family of schools very large kamae's. Perhaps they come from the battlefield forms of wearing armor and using a tachi? I would love some input.

  • wearing armour for kenjutsu actually restricts movement, and makes for a wierd looking style of movement, the Shinkage Ryu school shows this atJ oden level

  • Yagyu ryu is the big stanced family. Edo yagyu shinkage ryu is more of a village art. USing small stances to gaurd there body better because of the elimination of armor

  • Very beautiful and precise-so elegant to watch.

  • Sangakuen no Tachi. Thank you so much for the video.

    I'm practicing this too.
