  • @82DAN86 Thanks for your contact-No, a 222 would not be suitable to hunt Red Deer-we use a 243, even then it is in question. We may use a .223 on Red deer, if we are shooting for meat only, and that allows us time to choose the size we want to use for meat, and to place a shot in the right spot-preferably a head shot- hope that helps our-regards Tom

  • @82DAN86 Greetings, thanks for your comment. My son Thomas has a Winchester .243 caliber -and uses Winchester 100 gr. bullets, we find it okay on Red deer, not recommended for Sambar Deer-for them you have to use a 270 on upwards-Regards Tom

  • Hi, Thomas used a 243-100 gr. not the best size for a running shot, but there is no problem on Red deer. We used to use a 243 on Sambar Deer when I was a young man, again, not recommended at all-regards Tom.
