I was on Zithromax for infected sinuses. My dr prescribed a second round of Zithromax. When I got to the drugstore I was informed that my Ins. co. stated i'd reached my limit for the Zithromax and I was switched to Levaquin! Lucky I went on the web before i took any! I had taken some years ago and now have peripheral nueropathy and fibromyalgia- I'm wondering if the Levaquin I took back then could be the cause of my Fibro and neuropathy? Are you serious? I have been sick for so long plugging through work like a zombie & sleep my life away. WoW! Well add another on to the list! I had reactions to Cipro in the early 90's and added it to my allergies list. I had no idea that Levaquin was the same type drug. I have been experiencing heart palpitations, skipping beats, insomnia, memory loss, extreme fatigue that will just come on with no notice. I was first prescribed Levaquin in Jan of 2010 and was given a prescription for 10 pills. I now have damage to my achilles tendon. It has pretty much disabled me. Take it off the market

hey i took cipro a year ago in mexico for a simple infection. developed chronic neuropathy, as well as an array of digestive and other problems...... doctor of course didnt believe my symptoms had anything to do with cipro. I was on cipro for a month because of an infection. I feel very badly about your condition. It must be very discouraging. You mentioned taking methadone. My son (34) died from taking methadone, restoril and soma for chronic pain (as prescribed.) Please be careful, methadone can cause fatal heart arrythmias + has a very long half-life.

I had many of the same symptoms. It was horrible. I know EXACTLY what he's going through, and it is exactly like that.

Three things helped a lot. The first was acupuncture. It was very painful and made the symptoms worse for a couple of days, but some of my symptoms disappeared after that.

The second was ozone autohemotherapy. It was recommended to me by a floxie in Alaska. It worked for me. After each treatment I was exhausted for a couple of days but I felt a little better each time.

The third thing was deep breathing. Sounds crazy, but within three days of starting this I was able to walk without needing a cane either for pain or for balance. I took this from an old Tony Robbins tape of all places. Basically, breathe in for a count of 7. Hold breath for a count of 28. Exhale slowly for a count of 14. Do this about 30 times per day.

Other things that helped: Magnesium, coupled with pepsin (HCl) tablets that helped digest the Mg since I couldn't digest it myself.

I took cipro for 3 days and had to canceled it due to panic attacks and depression. I'm currently trying to help myself recovering with homeopatical stuff, and it seems like they bring at least a little improvement. You may try: Vitamines (especially B6, B12 helps nervs regeneration), Magnesium (it calms u down) and ginkgo (known to improve nervs recovery).

I took Levaquin in 2001 went through hell. I won't go into it too much. I have an identical twin brother and the deterioration of my health was evident by comparison. I took only 3 Levaquin pills, the last on 1/1/10, and I broke out in hives, experienced erratic heartbeat and my leg muscles began cramping. Yes, it is very normal for relapses to keep coming, sometimes for years. Stay away from all soy products (especially soy lechathin), caffiene, steroids, and only eat organic meats (especially chicken and fish) Everybody is different with these drugs. You could relapse for months or years. There is no way to tell how long it will go on.

Thank you. I relapsed again last weekend with more symptoms--muscle pain spread to my glutes and bottoms of my heels. Is it typical to get more symptoms?

I also noticed that my water consumption seems to have a link - the day before the second relapse I only had 6 glasses of water instead of 8. I also just tried a vibrating massager on my sore leg muscles and that seemed to help with some of the pain, but it increased the feeling of muscle weakness.

I was perscribed Norfloxacin (Noroxin), which is probably one of the highest-risk fluoroquinones. Back in February of 09 I had some strange illness with a sore throat and general weakness. The doctor at first thought it was strep throat and gave me amoxicilin. Failing that, he put me on Avelox. Hi John; I'm so sorry for your horrible ordeal I deve. Avascular Necrosis from steroid use back in 1992. I took them for Lupus. I have had both knees grafted. Feb.09 i took Cipro , last month while walking I felt a rip in right calf. I couldn't walk right. I went to the E.R. and they said it was nothing. I Have come to find out that normal antibiotics don't affect human cells only bacteria cells unless you are sensitive or allergic to the substance. You are very right, they can modify human dna because they are the only "antibiotic" that messes with dna gyrase in bacteria. I put the word "antibiotic' in quotes because technically, this class of drugs (cipro, floxin, avelox, levaquin, factive, etc.) are CHEMOTHERAUTIC AGENTS, in short they are chemotheray. Part 3 The Paxil cr slowly melted most of the symptoms away. There was a trade off though. Paxil has side effects on its own so I wanted off that as well. I visited a website that has extensive information on fluouroquinolones and they discuss the evolution of the reaction. Most mild reactions resolve in 6 months to a year. Intermediate reactions can take 2-3 years and severe reactions can take up to 8 years to resolve. Of course there can be permanent damage, like the floaters in my eye, but for the most part the worst of it can be resolved sufficiently to live a normal life.

Me too. I was prescribed 750 mg (!) of levaquin for an infection I got from a burn on my forearm. Within four days, I got a massive vitreous tear which has caused huge floaters in my right eye. This is permanent. I had a minor fall on a bicycle and ruptured tendons all around my ankle. The tendons in my right shoulder have been so weakened that the bone pops out of the socket.
