The Tower and Palace ARE tourist attractions. That jumped-up little Beefeater needs to understand that ‘politeness’ goes a long way. There wasn’t any need to react the way he did and he possibly ruined that poor ladies experience of England. He reminds me of Blakey (from On the Buses) and probably walked away thinking, “That’s made my day that has”.
@PogoTroll Yes but what you need to know is that these soldiers aren't for show and are there in defence of the Royal family. They have been doing these duties for hundreds of years and many have not changed. They are not going to change just so some moron tourist can get a better picture. You are an ignorant idiot and your comment "Have a scone" shows your pathetic level of intelligence. In future stop making such stupid remarks and think before you speak.
LOL, she was a bloody idiot, he was right to do that. The soldiers guard the queen, and if a bunch of dumbars yanks are in the way, they need to be moved.
tourists don't realise these Royal guard soldiers aren't there for show, they are there for defence and military bodyguard protection around Royal Facility's, who are armed and ready to defend at any time, they are part of the Elite Regular Army trained to kill just like all military Forces. .
The tourists should have done their research ahead of time and found out that the tour done by the Beefeaters themselves is Much better, involves profanity, bloody historic details, and is generally downright hilarious.
Disrespectful fuckers. Yeoman Warders are highly respected. Do these bitches even know what they did for their country? I know for a FACT that to become a Yeoman Warder you have to have served at least 20 years in the army!
the beefeater was doing these guys more of a favour then anything, you think the guards walk around people? or stop? NOPE they are going to plow right through you if you are stupid enough to get in the way. they are not there for tourist amusement and entertainment, they are there to do a job.
How dare these arrogant tourists have such disdain for our proud history and traditions. Britain welcomes you with open arms to our green and pleasant land, but please follow our laws and respect our traditions whilst your here.
@Dendiol If Britain ask for their customs to be followed, then why do you allow women to wear full mask Burqa? Is that not against British custom? Perhaps you could think of this as Karma for all the bullshit imperialism that Britain forced upon India, China and Ireland? Funny how when the tables are turned, it NOW becomes offensive
It doesn't matter where the place is, you follow the rules. It is common courtesy. If the guide can't direct his group to follow a simple instruction in English, then what happens in the event of a fire or a bomb alert? The Yeoman Warder noted his details. He will be asked to either follow the rules or not return. They'd do the same in a cinema or a shopping mall. This place wasn't designed with adequate fire exits.

@TheDurhamLass A tour guide should know the local language and know the gravity of the place he's visiting. Also, the Yoeman is doing his job. He's first and foremost a guard of the Tower. He's also an ex-serviceman, not a supermarket greeter.
@TheDurhamLass By your assertion that the Tower is simply a 'glorified tourist attraction' with a lot of 'pricey jewels' (sic) I get the feeling that you have little respect for our nation's heritage.

@TheDurhamLass I don't think he was arrogant, he clearly asks at 0:12 "Can you understand me", which seems to me as though he's checking that the tour guide can speak English. Given that there appears to be an American tourist in their group, I suspect that English was the language being used here. I find those that wilfully put down elements of their own history and culture to appear cool or to appease others annoying. (An Englishman).

It's a classic ignorant comment that somebody goes to the centre of a major city and brands the whole city/country based on their limited and uninformed "experience". Otherwise known as ignorance.
@meotaku2 Thats because most of them arent from or live in london, they are tourists, and commuters from the surrounding counties. Add to that the fact that most of the businesses are run by immigrants, makes your comment pretty ignorant.

I really do hate to be Pedantic, but having served with the British Army for about 18 years I feel it necessary to point out, to those of you not familiar with Military life, that Soldiers do not "Walk Through", they "March Through". I met this same Beefeater, had my photo taken with him. He was very polite, professional and even spent a few moments answering questions. The tour guide was fully in the wrong if he was instructed to move out of the way.
I dont think eny tourists should go in the tower only true english people from london let the guardsmen do their job properly its like people have never seen army before
@cashman863152 60% of N.Irish citizens are Protestant Loyalists. If the British just left, it wouldn't be fair on the larger portion of the population. Sadly it's all about numbers. FUCKING SCUM.
the thing is if they didnt move in time they probably would have been hit with the butt of a rifle in the face i was in the scots guards and that is what they tell you to do.
the beefeater was doing them a favour by trying to get them to move. it was move or get hurt and that ignorant american whore was stil moaning lol stupid hick
You're absolutely right. It flat out embarrasses me when Americans display ignorance and idiocy in the face of this kind of tradition. Way to represent us, guys............
And seriously, this US-British rivalry some of you people insist of carrying on online is absolutely ridiculous. Grow up.
We are allies and should embrace one another. Not spew nonsensical rhetoric.
the Americans must remember that they are in the UK, and the Beefeaters are former army individuals. By obstructing active soldiers from doing there duty is wrong and offensive not only to there role but also the British Traditions.
Some Americans need to understand that they are in the UK and MUST follow our customs, if its a problem, why come? Respect the duty of our soliders
@liberator1976 How do you know they're ALL American? Hmm? Are they wearing a sign around their necks that says so? Or are you just psychic and can see straight through their clothes and into their passports? Give me a break. There's plenty of ignorant assholes EVERYWHERE in the world, including England, so lose the chip on your shoulder about America, you sound pathetic.
@liberator1976 shouldn't you be mad at the tour guide? im assuming he's a local and not some yank that got off a plane turned to everyone and said ok everyone im a professional tour guide come now lots to see here in the UK! it's not like you get a briefing on local customs and behaviors on the trip over, as far as i know that only happens at the DMZ. be mad at the guy who was leading the tourists and was slackin on his makin. although i do feel it wasn't the tourists place to speak.
@Dutchgutta757 A good point, but you do know that there are holiday groups who employ their own guides and those are often from the country of origin. Regardless, he is definitely the one most to blame regardless of his nationality.
@liberator1976 Thanks for assuming this slender tall man with the "Rico Suave" facial hair and the nice coat is american... Cuz u know its only like what 1 in a billion chance he is?
Dear Americans reading this - Please accept my apologies for the ghastly language & behaviour of some of my compatriots here. I can't really explain the origin of this inane & infantile jingoism, except maybe speculate it it is down to years of disaster on the international sporting front. They don't have the chance to beat their chest in a raw patriotic fervour much these days, & so they act out in this rather bizarre way as a result. Rest assured there are lots of us who think you're great.
@justroxing While I agree that we have no shortage of jingoistic morons in our country and you may be right about the sporting failures (most of those idiots do seem to follow such things) I cannot say that I like the US. I have no doubt that there are plenty of fine people who happen to live there, I have to say that they hold a portion of the burden of responsability for their country's foreign policy. That said, I hate the UK at least as much for a similar reason.
This is the same Warder who gave our tour on my recent trip Sept 09. I thought I'd find him here and I was right! In his defense, he is very warm and friendly. Don't know about the dude he was dressing down, but I'm also a knuckle head Yankee and showed utmost respect for them and the place they're responsible for. Thanks for posting. Cheers! :^)
The tourists who thought this Beefeater is rude are idiots. This place is a public establishment and it's got many routines to run not just for this group but for everybody. If everyone does what this tour guide did then the place would have been a mess. As a professional guide he should have known better. That's like bringing a group into a church without advising group members they should take off their hat inside. When you're not respectful to others this is what you get.
@roberthmercer Don't forget the Brittish tourists who are rude, violent and stupid. There's plenty of them. I doubt the Yanks could rival us for pure pig-headed nationalism.
Because we can hear the accent of at least one of them and the person who posted this is from the US. Also, the question asked in the synopsis could only have been asked by an American.
@girabbit85 No, that's an American accent. I've heard it enough times before to know it when I hear it. It's not an attractive American accent, but it is an American accent.
@girabbit85 So you say, but I actually live in the UK and I tell you without reservation that the accent that woman has is not from England Scottland, or Whales and it is certainly not from Ireland either. It is also quite clear that this vid was posted by a person from the States and that the woman in question has what most resembles to everyone but you an American accent.
@Pooknottin I'm American and sad to say but you are right about the womans voice. In fact I would say her accent sounds like she's from wisconsin or one of the "square states". That said, I don't think she truly understood who she was talking to or his particular role. She most likely thought of him as some low end employee and not the 25-30 year military man he is. You can see this lack of understanding at Arlington as well and their guide should have informed them of this prior.
@losghost DEFINITELY a Wisconsinite haha. Right on the nose when you spoke about Arlington too. Tourists from all over think guardsmen at military and governmental posts are part of a tourist attraction and that's sad.
I should have guessed, typical fucking arrogant yanks. You'll do as you're told when you're told in this country especially by guards who are protecting the wealthfare of the Royal Family and her possesions. It's not you're disision whether or not you can stand there, if you're told to move you'll move!
@tranurse While this is true, they do seem a popular export of yours. That said, our tourists are just as bad. At least all yours do is act like self-important fools whereas ours lay waste to the local nightlife and think that talking in a louder voice helps someone understand a language they do not. Then there's the sandals and socks thing... we have bad tourists us Britts.
Would you rather be told NICELY to get out of the way or shouted at by the guards themselves?
I see the American being confounded by the fence, lacking the intellectual ability to go around it or just go alongside it so others can move as well.
Ani26 you should learn your history, you lost the war of 1812 to us which is now Canada,no wonder nobody likes the yanks anymore not only are you fat and ignorant you can add stupid and broke to that title now.Have fun lookin for a job dumbass,Oh wait Obama is going to fix everything!!
the beefeaters have had to serve 22yrs in the British army,he was quite correct in telling the people to move out of the way of the soldiers, these are the queens guard, they also have the right to physically move you out of the way, they are there to do a real job which is to protect the queens property, the american lady complaining was out of order, its a pity they dont have the traditions and history in america like we do here, well done the yeoman warder, shut up ignorant american woman.

@cashman863152 60% of N.Irish citizens are Protestant Loyalists. If the British just left, it wouldn't be fair on the larger portion of the population. Sadly it's all about numbers. FUCKING SCUM.

liberator1976,
You're absolutely right.
God Bless America and God Save the Queen.

haha dumb tourists, they don't seem to realise where they are. No the soldiers will not go round you they will just fucking kick you out of the way.
HolyFuckinShitBatman 1 year ago 3
the Americans must remember that they are in the UK, and the Beefeaters are former army individuals. By obstructing active soldiers from doing there duty is wrong and offensive not only to there role but also the British Traditions.
Some Americans need to understand that they are in the UK and MUST follow our customs, if its a problem, why come? Respect the duty of our soliders
liberator1976 2 years ago 96

Dutchgutta757 11 months ago
@Dutchgutta757 A good point, but you do know that there are holiday groups who employ their own guides and those are often from the country of origin. Regardless, he is definitely the one most to blame regardless of his nationality.

No, Americans aren't all that great with soccer, but we do play a very mean game of football, just watch one of the NFL games.

Cheers! :^)

Get out of the way.
The guide should have know better. If the fence is in the way then move that is the whole point.
And dont tap him with a fan you dope.
SCD4 2 years ago
The tourists who thought this Beefeater is rude are idiots. This place is a public establishment and it's got many routines to run not just for this group but for everybody. If everyone does what this tour guide did then the place would have been a mess. As a professional guide he should have known better. That's like bringing a group into a church without advising group members they should take off their hat inside. When you're not respectful to others this is what you get.

@roberthmercer Don't forget the Brittish tourists who are rude, violent and stupid. There's plenty of them. I doubt the Yanks could rival us for pure pig-headed nationalism.
Pooknottin 11 months ago
@TheGreatKnife
Because we can hear the accent of at least one of them and the person who posted this is from the US. Also, the question asked in the synopsis could only have been asked by an American.
Pooknottin 11 months ago
@Pooknottin The woman who taps him on the arm and speaks has an IRISH accent, not American.
girabbit85 11 months ago
@girabbit85 That is not an Irish accent.
Pooknottin 11 months ago
@Pooknottin It's from the UK at the very least. Listen to the way she says "bother." It's not American.
girabbit85 11 months ago
@girabbit85 No, that's an American accent. I've heard it enough times before to know it when I hear it. It's not an attractive American accent, but it is an American accent.
Pooknottin 11 months ago
@Pooknottin No.
girabbit85 11 months ago
@girabbit85 So you say, but I actually live in the UK and I tell you without reservation that the accent that woman has is not from England Scottland, or Whales and it is certainly not from Ireland either. It is also quite clear that this vid was posted by a person from the States and that the woman in question has what most resembles to everyone but you an American accent.
Pooknottin 11 months ago
@Pooknottin I'm American and sad to say but you are right about the womans voice. In fact I would say her accent sounds like she's from wisconsin or one of the "square states". That said, I don't think she truly understood who she was talking to or his particular role. She most likely thought of him as some low end employee and not the 25-30 year military man he is. You can see this lack of understanding at Arlington as well and their guide should have informed them of this prior.
losghost 10 months ago 25
@losghost Many thanks. I really don't know why grabbit made such an issue of it.
Pooknottin 10 months ago
@losghost DEFINITELY a Wisconsinite haha. Right on the nose when you spoke about Arlington too. Tourists from all over think guardsmen at military and governmental posts are part of a tourist attraction and that's sad.

I should have guessed, typical fucking arrogant yanks. You'll do as you're told when you're told in this country especially by guards who are protecting the wealthfare of the Royal Family and her possesions. It's not you're disision whether or not you can stand there, if you're told to move you'll move!

just because these people were idiots, doesn't make the rest of us in the us idiots. rude people live everywhere.
tranurse 2 years ago 3
@tranurse While this is true, they do seem a popular export of yours. That said, our tourists are just as bad. At least all yours do is act like self-important fools whereas ours lay waste to the local nightlife and think that talking in a louder voice helps someone understand a language they do not. Then there's the sandals and socks thing... we have bad tourists us Britts.
Pooknottin 11 months ago
Rude?
Would you rather be told NICELY to get out of the way or shouted at by the guards themselves?
I see the American being confounded by the fence, lacking the intellectual ability to go around it or just go alongside it so others can move as well.
*ughh*

Beefeaters are real soldiers, actually to become one of them you must have served the army for many years.
The one I met last time i went to London served the army for 22 years, and then became a Yeoman. So don't fuck with them! :)
