If many people could grow just 1 tomato, pepper, lettuce, strawberry, etc, plant. These are all plants you can grow even in a tiny, indoor, urban setting. Think of how much oil it could save? It may not seem like it would make a huge difference, but consider the savings in fertilizer, farming machinery, packaging, shipping & a drive to the supermarket. Multiplied by millions of people, the savings would be substantial, not to mention the obvious health benefits associated with fresh produce..
I am the only one in my family that can smell the toxins from plastic bags we use. The smell leeches into your food and then your food tastes like plastic. Why can most of us not taste this? I can smell plastic fumes in cereal, sandwich bags and on plastic plates. Some plastic bags have no distinct smell and the are the store brands. Bags like Ziploc and Hefty have a strong smell.
Wow I'm planing on eating more veggies, cut out processed and red meat, cut my intake of fish But it seems like no matter what you can't completely avoid the poisons. I'm pretty sure my very laptop is shooting poisons through my skin as I type this *sigh*

@boob72 Capitalism isn`t the problem. Sweden is capitalistic but makes more effort than most to curb the problem. China is communist & is one of the worst to contribute to the problem. Or we could take the NK juche philosophy & just starve everyone.
@paisleyyama Capitalism is the problem, we put the almighty dollar before everything for short term gain, even if in the long run we lose. CEO's call the shots, their dollars buy governments who override scientific findings & only endorse studies that support the corporate view. p.s. China is pretty much communist in name only. Communism fails because of our basic human nature that supports greed and corruption.
@boob72 very true...can't dispute your points......but why blame the concept of capitalism for what these guys do. Concepts are bullshit excuses. There's a bunch of people that just don't care what happens to others <-- that's the culprit (a lack of empathy). They just turn a cheek and let the worst happen. Sadly, it takes extreme industrial accidents to truly change things on the spot. Otherwise, its business as usual.
@Fantageous that's the problem, rampant capitalism promotes a culture where profit comes before all else. Companies are structured to look at things in isolation, they come up with terms like 'key performance indicators'. The people within in these companies are focused on meeting these kpi's in order to keep their job, make more money, get promoted, increase the share value, increase returns to share holders. Anything that gets in the way of meeting your target is bad for business, like ethics.
@boob72 I think communism fails b/c it gives too much power to the leaders who inevitably are power hungry & corrupt & it removes freedom of choice from the ppl. So the ppl end up suffering as we`ve seen in all communist nations. Even though capitalist countries have problems the ppl in general have much better & comfortable lives b/c they have freedom to make decisions for themselves. Freedom is as essential to life as food. Freedom gives health to the spirit like food gives health to the body.
@Ilkamy "get educated"? That wasn`t nice. I am educated & educated enough to be able to look at every country that has tried communism & the result has been oppression of the ppl. Your belief is "Political education & control & participation through direct democracy". That is fine, but I`d rather die than live in that society. Political control & education leads to oppression & direct democracy smashes out the minority voice. I prefer individual freedom of education & lifestyle choice.
@paisleyyama just to note: China's not really craving for polluting as much as we think. I suppose that China's recent historical dip into deep poverty probably convinced their leaders that they'd prefer to become the wealthiest powerhouse in the world. They want to be a global superpower. They'll eventually impose stricter environmental regulations as has happened with other industrialized nations. They're just joining the crowd.
If they suspect toxins got in via the packaging, how did they control in order to rule out other sources? I don't necessary doubt it, but they should state the method that excludes other contamination.
@LesMarvelous My point is this is much more complex than just not using plasic. There are many things that pollute the food supply chain and organic foods are not exempt. If you have chemtrails going over an organic farm, then a bag of potato chips packaged in bright colors might be healthier to eat than the organic apple with no packaging. What is my alternative proposal? I said all we can do is pray b/c we have to eat & food from almost every source is contaminated now all over the world.
@LesMarvelous cont. Moreover, no it is not forbidden to buy organic food. I am all for organic food. I wish all food was organic and natural, BUT to be realistic organic food is forbidden to many because of its cost. Lower income people especially with families to feed, generally don`t have the money to buy organic food. That`s just the cold, hard truth unfortunately. Organic food is expensive.
I'm sorry maybe I'm weird, but am I the only one who is waiting to see if one of these chemicals, or some medical breakthrough will turn people into zombies before that fact is known? :D
@hollytoo its not microscopic amounts of chemicals that are killing people !!!!!!It the way many treat their body like a land fill, from drug use,to heavy drinking, smoking ,to consuming 2 many calories, and consuming foods that are just unhealthy...Our preacher had a sermon some years ago.............The jist of it was ,most people, eat to much, sleep to much, and exercise to little..And then wonder, why they feel bad............We should treat our bodies as the temple they are,a gift from God ...
@hollytoo its not apathy,3 of my 4 grand parents live to be over 90 years old.My Grand father Clarkson died in a work related accident before I was born...I was 35 before l lost anyone close to me..........There is no crisis,we have 7 sons all born healthy...Our twins born through IVF in 2008 to my wife at 47 years old...How about a healthy/clean life style is what is key to long life...
Dearest Sov... erhm European Union - can you find another topic, than making people happy, even if they don't want to? it is ok and acceptable for the planet if human specie extincts, planet actually encourages this. It makes no difference if we all die, grass will continue to grow
@iTouchin Who do you think is "someone" besides yourself?
No one is forcing people to buy the plastic, they are free to play the game of the system. Check your own household. It became worse in the last 20 years. People drink mostly out of plastic bottles etc. before they throw them away!
"Man has lost the capacity to foresee and to forestall. He will end by destroying the earth." (Albert Schweitzer)
@criticalviewer1959 Yea, but unless you're basically going to eat only fresh produce, maybe from a farmers market or roadside stand, it's nearly impossible to escape plastic. I @ least recycle & reuse. Plastic shopping bags are reused & used in place of garbage bags & I used to reuse water bottles, until I read about toxins. Now I use metal water bottles. Plastic is an essential & integrated part of life. Besides recycling, what else can we really do?
@iTouchin no no....if that happened, the economy would shrivel up. No irresponsible greedy bastard would want their markets to shrink. Of course, it does seem as if humans are engineering their own extinction by ignoring objective evidence. Perhaps, industries prioritizing profits ahead of more noble pursuits just don't care. They must think that they're immune to environmental toxins. Really? Where's this environmental shield? Pollution finds its way around the world.

@paisleyyama Get educated.
What communism you're talking about? Do you mean the parties which bear the name and say they aspire this form of society?
So far, national efforts have failed; especially through representative parliaments and the fact that class domination hasn't been overcome.
Capitalism has triumphed = exploitation of man by man for profit maximisation & power interests.
Political education and control & participation through direct democracy are an important key! ☮

It's not forbidden to buy healthier fresh organic food. :))
What is your alternative proposal?
Do you think we must accept anything what the market serves up?
In my opinion, meaningless comments are unnecessary, and don't help anybody.
Never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple.
