  • can you say leak in the dyke???

  • she is fabulous!!!!!!...and more...great music!...and I 'wish' it was the '60's again!!!!...susie

  • What an absolute angel. I feel privileged to have lived in that era and been influenced by her blessed natural talent. What a powerful combo of insight and talents and passion to have Quincy Jones and this 16 year old make history. And, even as a teenager with a gold record already under her belt, she still has class, humility and respect for her audiences. Personally, it's very hard to match the heart and soul Lesley exhibits when she sings; few can follow in her steps in that way.

  • Her humble, professional smile at the end is something young performers should take note of.

  • She's amazing this girl !!! can rise to sing anything...never noticed before her bottom lip curling to the right , who cares though, she looks and sounds f-a-n-t-a-s-t-i-c, where is this type of talent today.??

  • she melts my heart with that lopsided smile! More, more, more!

  • Are you kidding me... how can so much power emanate from such a small frame wow.

Lesley as the 1000 watt voice and the nuance of a Broadway star, as much as I like musicals glad we pop/rock got her. I believe this is from the T.A.M.I. show where she just blows the doors off the theater and every other act!

  • Reminds me of my freshman year in high school.. what a great time

  • I love seeing women singing live on old shows! Leslie Gore is great

  • My dream woman.

  • One of the best comments I read on YouTube about Leslie was a guy saying she got me through the Vietnam

  • Hot Jewish girl.

  • hair syte was call a flip or a curl,,,, was about 11 years old back in the day,, all the teen girls was sooo pretty ,,,not like to day echhhhhhh!!!!!!!

  • it seems like a lot of her songs are about being with a guy who is unfaithful to her... thats kinda sad... i hope she wasnt singing about her own life for real.

  • @camilouwalk She figured out she was gay pretty early on, so I'm guessing not. You Don't Own Me is a nice antidote to a lot of that other stuff though, unusually strong statement for the time.

  • @camilouwalk I dunno...maybe the reason she is a lesbian? Hope she found happiness...she has a beautiful voice.

  • she's so awesome :)

  • Bitch is still playin'. They might be giants do a cover of this song and is also very nice.

  • I cant tell you how much I love this women as a fantastic singer !!! She can make any song sound like gold !I was lucky to be a kid when she was in her prime in the sixties what great memories

  • WOW..THE GIRL IS SINGING LIVE!!!!!!

  • Jeff Barry and Andy Kim wrote the Sugar, Sugar...the biggest bubblegum hit and my all-time favorite song. The 60s were the best decade for music..hands down! ....and for games too "Hands Down"...get it? Oh man....don't get me started. Rock on, Lesley Gore...I hope to see you again in person sometime soon. Rock on, everyone.

  • I have to comment here again. I am a huge Lesley Gore (Lesley Sue Goldstein) fan. I am from NJ too. I am thrilled to see all of you Lesley fans out there in Youtube land. So many positive comments! Lesley is truly talented. I do think that we need to give props to Jeff Barry and Ellie Greenwich for writing this and SO MANY other great songs! With Lesley's vocals and performance and Jeff and Ellie's song you can't miss.

  • @doozydoozy

so happy to see a BIG LG fan I luv that girl what a voice !!!

  • @doozydoozy Big Lesley Gore fan here too. Have been a member of her fan club since the early 60s; purchased all of her recordings; have her unreleased Christmas recordings; have been to a lot of her concerts. A very warm and friendly person. Totally agree with the comments here.

  • What a class act!!! I had the great pleasure of meeting Leslie back in 1989 when I flew her and her friend from East Hampton NY to Boston on a charter flight. I had always loved her music and was so excited to meet her in person. A very beautiful woman as well .

  • You mean at one time, people could actually sing live? Boy, I was born 40 years too late...

  • A Jersey Girl we can be proud of!

  • thanks to you tube for all this really great music. Lesley Gore was probably the biggest female singer 63-64.

  • she is beautiful.

  • she is soooo hot.

  • @lastguy Seriously, why can't people just get up in front of a microphone, smile, and belt out a good tune for it's own sake? Also, love the sounds that were coming out of music studios in the 60's. In the US and Europe, the decade produced music so varied and creative. In ten years, you could listen to everything from Doo-Wop, to ye-ye, to British Invasion, to folk...

  • And you can't beat that flip hairdo!!!

  • @doozydoozy That hairdo rocks. And Lesley Gore Rocks. I'm "old fashioned".

  • Hi WJHMOSA. Iwanted to leave a comment on your home page to thank you for your friendship. It really means a lot to me. You have a great day. Your friend Ricky! P.S. I love Lesley Gore...

  • We grew up listening to this kin the 60's,and Lesley Gore was one of the best.

  • I loved Lesley when I was a 14 back in 1963...I was living with my parents on Clark AFB in the Phillipine Islands and they played all the top pop songs on the base radio, and i bought her album at the base PX and played it all the time for years. Probably my favorite until Barbara Streisand came along in 1966, then Joni Mitchel in 1969. All of them were so great!

  • Lesley gore has to be one of best female acts to ever come around, and I wonder if she has ever been inducted into the Rock and Roll hall of Fame!?! If not, why not?!? All Lesley gore fans lets email the Hall of Fame and encourage her induction asap. She deserves to be there and receive this honor. Would it not be great to see her performing on the Hall of Fame live stage the night of her induction?!? C'mon fellow fans - LET'S DO THIS!

  • @sentimental1friend I agree with you....Lesley should be in the hall of fame. But, unfortunatley she is not. I was informed by the hall of fame that, basically, it's at the whim of the judges who gets in, it's not based on the singer's accomplishments/contributions to the industry. What a shame!

  • @stevemichaels2020 Sounds like the hall of fame is a sham

  • While singing she still managed to keep her grades up and put herself through an Ivy league school (Sarah Lawrence). Lesley Gore was and remains a class act all the way.

  • cool

  • Well I on't get ithis. She's singing live, there's no electronics to help her voice, she's not bumping and grinding and dressing like a two dollar hooker. How can people like her? ( I hope you guys get that I'm being facitious )

  • @lasktguy Or maybe you're being facetious :). Got to agree though. It gives me goose bumps watching this.

  • @lordofthemanor67 actually I was being ironic..or ironically facitious.. or..oh never mind. yeah she is great, isn't she?

  • @lasktguy Well put! This a great, upbeat, happy live performance! She can actually sing and she is truly having fun!!! Lesley is a great live performer even today...I have seen her 3 times in the past 15 years or so.

  • @lasktguy I find her wonderful too. I like the music and singers " before my time". I'm sure you would agree. The music was way better. : ).

  • @ThatsMrPumpkinhead2U I agree completely. Back then people became stars based on their talent. All Leslie has to do is stand there and sing and people go crazy. No gimmicks..nothing. I was around 10 when this came out so I know it from back in those times. Loved it then also.

  • She's Hot & a great singer. What a babe! Awesome song and display of talent.

    gord8881

  • One beautiful woman, full of life. A geat time to be alive and to have experienced it first hand,,,,.

  • One of the most unique rock and roll voices--certainly one of the prettiest artists of all time!!

  • i love her expressions, voice, and whole attitude and look. she is the only girl i truly envy shes my idoll and im 14 :)

  • What's interesting about this song is that it would have been no.1 if the Beatles hadn't just arrived and released "I want to hld your hand". She played no.2 to it for several weeks. Too bad her timing was off. This song and her performance of it should have had a no. 1 pedigree. Oh well, it does for me.

  • @belladon1959 Actually I think you are thinking of "You Don't Own Me".

  • @belladon1959 Yes it was "You Don't Own Me" that got stuck at #2 thanks to The Beatles. But this song should have been huge--it only reached #14 Billboard and has become more popular on the Oldies circuit in the past 20 years.

  • absolutely a goddess]

  • man, she could sing this to me all day long...

  • @wjhmosaEnglish04 Been looking for

this performance a long time. Priceless ! Thanks !

  • @jdollinter Check out "6 X Lesley Gore" here on youtube for the complete set of songs Lesley sings live from 1964.

  • Love this song!!! Heard it at a casino and it got stuck in my head I wish I could go back to the 60s and be on American bandstand ;)

  • les is boss!!!

  • baby i know that hes bin laden baby i know that hes shot thro oo oo well whoop de do

  • As a guy about to turn 65, we loved all of this music- and we never realized that the 50's and 60's were the time of the greatest genre and examples of popular music that there ever would be! WOW

  • i love the way she ends this songs..raises her eyebrows and sings.." but what can I dooooooooooeww"

  • i love this song!!

  • this is when they made really good music.

  • R I P Ellie Greenwich One of my favorite Songs!

  • @Freyja1133 RIP? You know she's still alive right?

  • @DevoBassGirl I know that Miss Gore still is Alive

  • She was the ginchiest . . . We'll need some "Ambush" too!

  • @pvtpstr She sure was ginchy, and neato keen, too. Let's get drunk!

  • Master video archivist RON FURMANEK found a 2 inch videotape from nearly 50

years ago, includiing LESLIE GORE footage of EVEN HIGHER QUALITY....didn't

include this song but it was screened Feb. 11 in Los Angeles, along with a BEATLES

    old video.

  • Shes so beautiful!!!

  • I just wanna crawl all up in that hairdo and smell the Spray Net.

  • @pvtpstr oooohh yes! Can I crawl up in there with you?? Pretty please??

  • @auaiao9 - only if u bring along a jug o' 20/20.

  • @pvtpstr I'll be there in a jiffy.

  • The girl next door to me when I was young (1960) and a bit older at the time had this same hair-do, wounder why??

  • LOVE IT!!! First heard of it at Mayberries.

  • This girl could sing. What a voice.

  • Love it!

  • What a sweetie

  • Leslie Gore aka Leslie Sue Goldstein was the Queen of Pop in her era.

  • @YOU2UUB try Lesley... since leslie is a guys name

  • GREAT!!!!!!!!

  • .......I LOVE LESLEY GORE, & especially, "HER HAIR-DO"!!! They don't make hair-do's like that anymore!! All joking aside, this song is fabulous & so is Ms. Lesley. *****STARS!!! Peace from PA USA.

  • For such a petite lady, she can really "belt out a song." I am smitten.

  • @ItsMrPumpkinhead2U Yeah.... jeez she's a natural

  • Yes, she really does rock out in this song, and her expressions and gestures are perfect...

  • i love her expressions!

  • Great!!!!!!

  • Great song...belter

  • Smart lady! She sang to make money to go to medical school. Way to go Lesley.

  • heard this ina taxi yesterday nd now cant get it outta my head

  • What a great memory..she was a little dynamo...a nice , pure voice...good times then.

  • She had (and still has) such great stage presence. Her facial expressions, vocal inflections and overall demeanor all say that she's very comfortable with who she is.

  • I love when she gestures..folds her arms raises her eyebrows...her facial expressions are on cue..even when she points her finger at the beginning ..and at the end note she raises her eye brows and sings. with a slight inflected voice BUT What can I dooooooooo oeww.

  • SHE IS SOO GOOD! a really unique voice!

  • This is from the LEGENDARY TAMI Show, & I know, because I was there, both nights. Lesley was nervous, but once the music started, her total professionalism took over, & she was sensational. What a voice she had . Fall of '64, for this Perf. Wolfsky9, 64 y/o.

  • This music makes me wish it were 1964 all over again. What a simpler, less stressful world we used to live in. Oldies forever!!!

  • Lesley is still bad to this day..theres two of my fav live performances one 1988 the other later..and she does and outstanding performance on both..she now has a very sweet lower pitch..but the what can i dooooooo and oohhhhhs are with even more conviction..i love the way she ends this song 1:18.". but what can i dooooooooooew"

  • WOW - what a performance!

  • When the world was kinder and gentler

  • That voice could belt out volume with power.

What a talent, for someone so young, at the time.

  • Looks like Scully from X Files

  • @FairDealDan

I agree Agent Scully from the X Files TV series is a Lesley Gore

    look-a-like.

  • @tumsabai1 Imagine Ellen Degeneres with that hair.......she would be lesley Gore's twin.

  • wish i was there!

  • I love you Leslie!

  • @manosteel1984

    Me too!

  • Love this version the best.

Lesley was way ahead of the flock.

Still is one of the best in the biz.

  • I could listen to this song everyday...of couse by Lesley ONLY.

Oh, I had that same hairdo, but Italian style.

    This song lifts my spirits.

    sc

  • Such an underrated track from her. This is just as good as "It's My Party" or "Judy's Turn to Cry" and yet only reached #14 on Billboard. However, I've noticed the past 15 years or so this song has gotten the respect it deserves,

  • @kentgraovac You are so right! I think it is her best...

  • you he's been untrue. he's been haing a secret family. forced marriage. sucks

  • We would all jump on our friends transiter radio. haha 'Turn it up"
