I saw an edited for T.V. version of this scene where the farts were replaced by burps. It was so ridiculous, it was actually funnier than the farting version.
I first saw this in it's edited form, the farts were replaced with horse whinnying. I think the two together would have been even funnier - farting so bad they upset the HORSES (LOL).
I saw this movie when first released into the theaters in 1974. At 15 years old it was perfect towards my sense of humor. I grew up with Mel Brooks, Cheech and Chong, and Monty Python. I am one lucky old bastard. What is missing in the clip is when Slim Pickins exits the tent, smells the farts and says,"Holy shit!".

@tigerspirit1917 Well said. Of course he didn’t pay much attention to what “they” told him nor did he need to, … since Mel already had had the wits to put a director’s-final-cut decision clause into the contract with the embarrassed studio. If he hadn’t we would never have had this scene in the original released film. [How I do love the tidbits of the commentary tracks].
The first time I saw Blazing Saddles was a TV edit version, and this scene was still in there, but it was completely overdubbed and all you heard were the sound effects of eating, crickets, and horse noises.
I have to say that it was actually FUNNIER that way, because it took a few seconds for what was going on to sink in -- then as the pantomimes of flatuence got more and more exaggerated, THAT made it funny.
Sometimes less IS more. However, I also think censorship is taken too far at times.
@kcmurphy72 cencorship goes way to far. There are some things i dont want to hear/see but come on ...farts, a few bad words? this movie is tame compared to the stuff nowdays.
This reminds me off Sunday lunch around my nan's house

They had actually told Mel Brooks to take this scene out of the movie... It wouldn't have been such a good movie if he had listened XD

@tigerspirit1917 Obviously Mel decided to make a STINK out of what he was told to take out!

@tigerspirit1917 Because back then fart scenes and toilet humor in movies was rare.

@SirPaladin The cenoring in the tv versions is funny, because you KNOW what's being substituted when you hear the horses neighing in the background.
