Wow haven't seen this since I was a wee lad xD seriously i was sooooo little when I last watched this, I still got the VHS, does anyone have a download to this english version?
My mom got me this when I was about 4 years old (1984) and it was my first taste of Anime. I payed that VHS OUT! My mom went back to the store and bought 3 more copies of that tape... I found one that wasn't opened about 2 years ago... I opened it and ripped it onto my Mac... Doesn't get any better than this <3
@CeltycSparrow Lol OMg me too! Do they still play it on TNT the day before Thanksgiving? I used to always watch it when they played it on TNT before Thanksgiving.
ok so ive never seen the full movie before and im a teenager, ive seen the show wicked and when i was 4 i saw a production on it. so i know about it. but ive never seen the real movie. and i finally realized why. when my brother was 6 and i was 2 he told me that it was scary so i wouldnt watch it and i got scared by the production. SO I NEVER WATCHED IT. im going to tho...because im at this video. everyones like WHATS WRONG WITH YOU..
oh man, I remember watching this as a kid. And I remember thinking the animation and the mouth movements were...different from the other animated stuff I watched. It all makes sense now knowing it was actually anime XD
I had to watch this a few times everyday with my daughters over 20 years ago - even knew the words by heart - would have got it in DVD if it was available for my grand-daughters!!
OMG!!! I used to watch this every single day when I was little! it was my all time favorite movie when I was like four. Thank you so much. This totally made my night.
that girl singing at the beginning sounds eerily familiar, wow never saw this, rediscovering all the oz cartoon tv specials and movies from the 60s to present
I remember watching this when I was really little over and over and over and now that I'm older I forgot the name of it , and I wanted to watch it again . I finalllyyy found it after searching everywhereee :) ! !
Gee whiz...I think I saw this when I was a baby or a toddler or something because I was dreaming it last night and it was exactly like this, almost verbatim (I particularly remembered the chair falling through the cellar door). I have no idea when I saw it though...
The one thing about this move that always struck me was the music, it was amazing, and now i look into it i see Joe Hisaishi was the composer and i have to think "no duh" now wonder it was so good.
I find it funny how it starts off with a great, happy, poppy song and suddenly...everything's quiet. Still, this is a charming version of the story. And I think Dorothy's voice is the same girl who played Annie!!
I remember this being such a large part of my family's childhood, me and and siblings are all adults now, and i know we've always wanted to be able to show this to our own children.
Does anybody PLEASE know of any DVD copies of this film?

How come the 'munchkins' are the same size as the witch, who is the same size as Dorothy??That renders them excluded, from actually BEING 'munchkins' at all!!
@TheMrMarilyn Actually, the Munchkins being small was thrown in for the 1939 movie. This was inspired by the actual BOOK, in which the munchkins and the witch are about the same size as Dorothy.
@irock5468 i was typing that in the comments when i saw your comment and was like, "dang it. someone beat me to it!" poor disney.... everyone kinda copies from them! even if the copiers don't realize it!
@missannieloulou Sorry to say that it has never been released on DVD, with no plans as of today to happen in the near future. Wish that could change, though.
@missannieloulou hahaha says who it is not on DVD well that just happen if you don't look carefully one thing you need to know this version you are watching is an USA American made by Japanese version you know she looks like barbie every one is more pretty whatever the original version is not the same girl also disney has one version too
OMG! I was wondering if this was an anime. My grandma had the VHS and I would watch it every time I was visting as a little kid, this was most likely my first anime and I didn't even know it hehe. She passed away since then but I'm sure its still at her house. I'll have to ask my grandpa if he kept any of the old videos and if so if I can have this.
I remember seeing this way back when I was a kid. This is the best version I think outside the Judy Garland version. I remember not being fond of The Wiz with Michael Jackson in it. The Judy Garland classic will always have a place in my heart, but I like this one because it seems to follow the original novel best. Good tornado scene for being early 80s. I hope this gets on DVD
Aside from that, I actually find it strange that this film's English dialogue was recorded BEFORE its 1986 Japanese release; there are times when the acting sounds a bit like they're synching to the lipflaps. (There are a couple of choppy and redundant lines, too.) Secondly, it's odd that Joe Hisaishi did the music for this; it doesn't sound like his usual style at all (I do like it for this film though). Overall, I do like this version of WIZARD OF OZ, but its hard not to notice its oddities.
