  • oh man, I remember watching this as a kid. And I remember thinking the animation and the mouth movements were...different from the other animated stuff I watched. It all makes sense now knowing it was actually anime XD

  • OMG CHILDHOOD NOSTALGIA!! Thank you so much for uploading. I had almost forgotten I grew up on this movie also.

  • Gee whiz...I think I saw this when I was a baby or a toddler or something because I was dreaming it last night and it was exactly like this, almost verbatim (I particularly remembered the chair falling through the cellar door). I have no idea when I saw it though...

  • I love the opening.

  • The one thing about this move that always struck me was the music, it was amazing, and now i look into it i see Joe Hisaishi was the composer and i have to think "no duh" now wonder it was so good.

  • *blink* ... The pie is a lie!!!!

  • red shoes?

  • @madinhatter in the origional book the shoes were silver

  • I find it funny how it starts off with a great, happy, poppy song and suddenly...everything's quiet. Still, this is a charming version of the story. And I think Dorothy's voice is the same girl who played Annie!!

  • @WishfulThinkingArt yes this is!!

  • this one makes me want to eat pi e thumbs up if you agree :)

  • @pokemonfreak895 Yeah! I always thought Aunty Em's pie looked delicious when I watched this. Still do!

Does anybody PLEASE know of any DVD copies of this film?

If you could let me now where you bought it, i'd be very thankful.

(Our original copy was lost decades ago!)

  • @pancakeing Sorry, but Paramount has NEVER released this on DVD, with no current or future plans to. It's only available on VHS and you can get it on Amazon. Just type this code in the Search box: B00000656J

    Good luck.

  • That pie looks like a steak LOL

  • Awesome. This is the version that I remember as a kid. Have Loved Oz ever since. Read all 14 of the original series and have a small collection of Oz things. Thanks for posting it!

  • Oh. My. God! I love you! Been looking for this for ages! Used to have it on VHS when I was smaller and I remember most of the songs even now!

  • this seems more like the book than the musical does

  • 10:37 is a great shot :) I should draw it sometime

  • 12:27 is a beautiful close up of the shoes, I love the style of them. If they had a dvd of the movie, I'd so capture the image :D

  • Uncle Henry looks old enough to be Aunt Em's father. Also notice how Toto looks almost exactly like Jock from "Lady and the Tramp".

The Good Witch of the North is voiced by Elizabeth Hanna, who was also Queen Celeste in the Babar movie.

  • Wow! I never knew this existed lol

  • How come the 'munchkins' are the same size as the witch, who is the same size as Dorothy??That renders them excluded, from actually BEING 'munchkins' at all!!

  • @TheMrMarilyn

I also found a paint mistake, at 10:09, her shoes are red but she hasn't even seen the shoes yet till after.

  • @TheMrMarilyn Actually, the Munchkins being small was thrown in for the 1939 movie. This was inspired by the actual BOOK, in which the munchkins and the witch are about the same size as Dorothy.

  • @joshscomputer ......AND??

  • "dorathy" looks like alice from alice in wonderland

  • @irock5468 i was typing that in the comments when i saw your comment and was like, "dang it. someone beat me to it!" poor disney.... everyone kinda copies from them! even if the copiers don't realize it!

  • @irock5468 Dorothy was actually blonde in the original book.

  • @TheNightcloudHATER

What is wrong with this one :( ?

  • i cant believe i found this. thank you for posting. i just got a flashback from my childhood!

  • Dorothy's eyes are so intense........

  • Hehe, 3:10 And toto too?

Nice nod to the classic movie

  • @FancyUnicorn Tone-Deaf moron!!!

  • theres a torrent of this

  • Look what they did to Glinda

  • @nicdestiny

Actually, thats not Glinda, thats the Good Witch of the North.

Glinda is the Good Witch of the South

  • HAVE BEEN SEARCHING FOR THIS FOREVER!!!! i would buy it, but the only copies left are in vhs. I LOVE YOU!!!! THANKS!!!!!!

  • @missannieloulou Sorry to say that it has never been released on DVD, with no plans as of today to happen in the near future. Wish that could change, though.

  • @superfunforeveryone could not agree more with missannieloulou!!!! THANKS a MILLION!!!

  • @superfunforeveryone sum1 should by this and encode it for the sake of us who no longer own VHS players :S I'd buy a copy but no way to play it :(

  • @missannieloulou What's wrong with Vhs? Don't you have a Vcr Player?

  • @missannieloulou hahaha says who it is not on DVD well that just happen if you don't look carefully one thing you need to know this version you are watching is an USA American made by Japanese version you know she looks like barbie every one is more pretty whatever the original version is not the same girl also disney has one version too

  • MY FAV OZ MOVIE EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • i watched this with no sound listening to dark side of the moon :O

  • omg childhood memories! i watched this almost everyday when i was a kid!

  • OMG! I was wondering if this was an anime. My grandma had the VHS and I would watch it every time I was visting as a little kid, this was most likely my first anime and I didn't even know it hehe. She passed away since then but I'm sure its still at her house. I'll have to ask my grandpa if he kept any of the old videos and if so if I can have this.

  • ....The hell is this?!

  • Aileen Quinn's singing voice could make a good English dub for Luchia from Mermaid Melody!

  • I remember seeing this way back when I was a kid. This is the best version I think outside the Judy Garland version. I remember not being fond of The Wiz with Michael Jackson in it. The Judy Garland classic will always have a place in my heart, but I like this one because it seems to follow the original novel best. Good tornado scene for being early 80s. I hope this gets on DVD

  • I love the old 80s cartoon music

  • I like the song at first!

  • Aside from that, I actually find it strange that this film's English dialogue was recorded BEFORE its 1986 Japanese release; there are times when the acting sounds a bit like they're synching to the lipflaps. (There are a couple of choppy and redundant lines, too.) Secondly, it's odd that Joe Hisaishi did the music for this; it doesn't sound like his usual style at all (I do like it for this film though). Overall, I do like this version of WIZARD OF OZ, but its hard not to notice its oddities.

  • I didn't realize that Aileen Quinn was doing Dorothy until I saw the opening credits. I was really surprised that Little Miss Annie did an Anime dub. She has both a great singing voice and a very underrated acting presence. She does a very fine job with her role. Too bad she hasn't done anything major since then.

  • i was wondering if you could burn this onto a dvd for me. i will paypal (or snail mail) you money if you would.

  • Look at that background... ah the rolling hills of Kansas ... >.>

  • I actually saw this version before I saw the MGM movie ( odd I know ) I've been looking for this for a while now, I have an old vhs copy but its not in great condition ( never really was ) so thanks for uploading this!

  • You are SO awesome for posting this :D

    Thank you ^w^

When I was a kid I LOVED this adaptation of Wizard of Oz :3

  • This takes me back! I haven't seen this in years!!!

  • Thank you sOoo much for uploading this movie=]

  • I hope the poor chickens are allright.

  • The voice of Dorothy is Aileen Quinn, she played Annie in the 1982 film. Amazing! She's also singing this intro....

  • Comment removed

  • Why is Dororthy the only anime character?

  • where i can download the intro song? but without vocals i love the music

  • wow aileen quinn! she was annie!

  • Oh my gosh I love you for uploading this. I haven't seen it in over a decade.

  • she looks like alice frm alice in wonderland:)

  • i dun understand why the first part is sing soooooooooo hight pitch

  • he head is MAAASSSSIIIVVVEEEE

  • i remeber this...memories... i had it recorded on tape.. well my parents for me... but then MY BROTHERS decided to MESS IT UP. i cried lol.

  • Sammy Cahn wrote the songs for this, huh? They pulled together a pretty interesting group of people for the American dub.
