I adore Terry Hall, but this song reminds me of Aztec Camera. Not that that's a bad thing. I adore Roddy Frame too. Did they know each other around V&P, Love time???
@RudeGirlMargie Me too, I only have it on vinyl. I love the flamenco style guitar and trumpet part. Too bad they messed up the CD release and left this off but Cherry Red is slated to re-release it March 2010. It will be the original LP and 10 bonus tracks. Wonderful lyrics and beautiful backing vocals by Katrina Phillips.
Thanks for the compliment. I wanted a screen name that MOST, wouldn't have a clue about. One more thing that will interest you, if you didn't know. Terry finally reunited with the original Specials last year ( only no Dammers ). They are slated to perform on Jimmy Fallon's show April 13th ( love that number ), which gives you plenty of time to get those loafers polished up !!! I still have all my original 2- Tone buttons/badges lined up on my parka.
I had meant to thank you in my first message for the heads-up on Virgins & Philistines being re-released - Yes, I knew about the Specials reunion tour, but last I'd checked there weren't any dates listed in the States. Dare I go look again...? Will mark 4/13 on the calendar at least. Don't let that parka outta your sight!
There are dates for Calif. and N.Y. for sure and I think they said more, may be added. It seems since I left S. Calif. 15 years ago, that every band that seemed impossible for reuniting, has played there. Bauhaus, The Cult, Bow Wow Wow and Dave Wakeling lives 15 miles from where I used to live!
Thanks - I'll be on the lookout for new Specials dates. Did see English Beat this past June, and Wakeling's voice was as great as ever. (Ouch about those reunion gigs *after* you left...)
The big ouch occurred in 86, when I found out that The Colourfield performed at a Huntington Beach, CA club called The Golden Bear, in 85. It was a small roadhouse type place, that didn't have a bad seat. Very tragic, as it was a 7 mile trip from my home. I live in a small NW Arkansas town now and you have to travel some to see anyone good. I did see Ministry in Springfield, MO in 2003. It was a tiny place and Al J. dove into the crowd, to punch up a spitter. Glad you saw The Beat, WH'APPEN?!
@RudeGirlMargie No it wasn't me but you can see most of the incident here on YT. Type in Ministry Fight and it will be the second video down. My chat with the videographer in the comments section, explains more. The spitter was dragged away but you can't see that.
@RudeGirlMargie Did you see the Specials on Jimmy Fallon? I finally ordered both Colourfield re-releases today, got em both new for $25 total, what a deal!!!
@NickCave13 Hey NC13, cool about the CF re-release score! I didn't see the actual Fallon show, but saw the clip on Facebook, posted on a page you might want to check out: Slicing Up Eyeballs - the Legacy of 80s College Rock. Still hoping for a nearby Specials tour date!
@RudeGirlMargie Well I got the Cd's yesterday & I just stopped playing them, LOL!!! The remastering is great & I'm hearing stuff on songs that weren't detectable before. But there was 3 disappointments. The little intro part to "Faint Hearts" was left off, as it was on the U.S. CD release. The single version of "Castles In The Air" isn't there. And although Deception has "Things Could Be Beautiful" & "Frosty Mornings" they left the 2 live tracks off, that were on that EP.

I've admittedly done a lot of stupid things in my life. But at least I'm not so idiotic as to antagonize Al Jourgensen.
Hang in there NickCave13 of NW Arkansas.... thankfully there's YouTube!
