I agree with those of you saying that sequels usually suck.  Especially when the first movie was outstanding. I mean Terminator 2 was way better than the first, but the first wasn't that great. The only movie I can think of right now that I can think of that the sequel curse doesn't apply to is the Lord of the Rings Trilogy.

I mean, they were 3 outstanding movies, and I'm surprised that other productions are not made the same way that movie was. Making all three before releasing the first one was perfect, because they were able to get everything right without trying to rush the 2nd one into production and screwing it up by trying to cut corners, and or over-do things like the 2nd Transformers did.

I wouldn't want to see Mandarin here. He's like Palpatine, a mystic villain that would be too fantastic for the 1st or 2nd movie. Tony needs more character development before engaging in flashy fights like that. Mandarin's better suited for the third movie. A subtle hints towards his appearance have already been made (the Ten Rings). Frankly speaking I hope his character will be modernized - his character was suitable for the comics genre of his era, but now it would look quite cheesy.

I don't think Vanko's going to be the main villain in this movie.

My suspicion is that the iron soldiers at the end are connected to the USA military, who don't like the idea of a vigilante hero and want to use the Iron Man tech to accomplish their own goals. Stark, OTOH, as we've seen in the 1st movie and the Armor Wars is v.reluctant to let others use the IM tech, especially if there's a risk it might me misused.

Cont. I think Vanko will be defeated (but not killed) p. early in the movie. He might team up with the Big Bad of the movie later. My bet: Justin Hammer, who in the comics became a citizen of Monaco. In the comics JH was able to steal Tony's tech and sell it to bad guys. This was the cause of the first Armor Wars. In the comics Tony wanted to destroy not only the illegal armors, but also the sanctioned ones, creating a conflict with Cap. No Cap here, but maybe Rhodey'll take his place?

A new trailer was released yesterday and it basically confirmed Vanko being defeated by Iron Man and imprisoned, then he talks to Hammer who offers him resources to make an armor that will make "Iron Man look like an antique". I'll dare to make a guess that Vanko's new armor = Crimson Dynamo.

And I'll change my prediction about the American government - they will get involved earlier. Whiplash ->the gov. -> Hammerbots ->Crimson Dynamo

Personally, I don't think Mandarin was EVER a good villain for Iron Man. He would be a villain better suited for Dr. Strange or any of the other "mystic" superheroes. Mysticism vs. Technology is never a good mix in a duel of good and evil. Besides, Mandarin was created because at the time of Iron Man's creation the cold war was going on, and the main bad guys were commies and the Vietcong.

Mark Scarlotti is Whiplash, and Ivan Vanko is Crimson Dynamo. Crimson Dynamo has a suit like Tony's. I don't think there's much elements between them. Just the name, and he has tony's chest piece he made. But yeah thats where CD comes in.

Actually, the first Crimson Dynamo's real name was Dr. Anton Vanko, not Ivan. He was Armenian by birth, but a Soviet Scientist. They've played around with the story a bit. Mark Scarlotti was originally known as Whiplash, but is now called Blacklash.

Whip lash is the villain with "super" powers in this movie. The other bad guy is a girl by the name of the black widow. From what i can see in the previews she gets hired by someone to steal the ironman blue prints and its then they make copies of the suit. Thats why rodey must team up with stark to stop the army of ironman suits.
