Overall the movie is made well. But extremely biased point of view. I think an art work like this would be more respected if it is presented from a nuetral point. Reverse the roles and lets have someone make a movie from within the army camp and it would be equally appealing. I am not army person but I know their job is not a piece of cake. Criticism is easy.

Just watched for few mins and wanted to reflect. It seems like a sad attempt by someone to make a controversial movie and gain fame. Not the first example of this. I saw that he interviewed militants who explained how they were brutally tortured. This filmmaker is selling this stuff to gain sympathy for who? A militant should not be alive. He has no human rights what so ever. Militant talking about his torture, how about lets talk about the innocent people he killed.

One of the most heart warming documentaries ever... The militant, A Crying n Wailing mother, A tortured generation, 40 Women who have witnessed Hell in their lifetime, ... I can only speak for myself . being from Mumbai - this was an eye opener for me .. as a parallel existence of a Kashmir that has some real problems & Issues that have been left unsorted for decades.... I m not sure if its is Heaven or rather Hell on Earth ..... A heart felt thanks to Mr Ashvin for taking the effort...

Everyone has to be balmed the people of kashmir, the army and every indian (like me) for not doing enough to change the situation.This documentry is a good try but very basic and incomplete. It only shows a small part of the story, some should make a documentry that shows all side and angles. unless and until we understand what the army and people of india think of kashmir and visa versa and find solutions. Good effort. There is no simple way to solve the Kashmir issue. An apology from the Government of India, a reduction in troop levels, better and fairer investigations into the crimes committed against civilians will help. A government that is serious about solving the issue and gives the people of Kashmir the dignity and freedom it deserves.

As a kashmiri pandit, I feel this documentary is based on facts viz.,
1. Pre 90 sucularism in Kashmir
2. Rigged 1987 elections as trigger
3. Cross border trainings.
4. Suffering of kashmiri muslims .
5. Hope for normalcy
Suffering of KPs in exile is missing. But that is not much in comparison to what muslims face.
I believe the only way to demilitarise kashmir is by making pandits return. Kashmir is incomplete without KPs and so are KPs incomplete without Kashmir and Kashmiri muslims.

I remember my Kashmir Pandit friend who lives in Delhi right now used to always say I am a Pandit not Indian Hindu because KP's have their own Identity and don't like to mix with rest of the Indian Hindus!
Nicely made documentary. Quite a pseudo-secular approach though. The joke is that the Kashmiri Muslims commenting here are praising the movie as showing the 'truth'. If the movie would have shown the mass rape and murder of Hindus by Muslims there (including foreign mercenaries), the same commentators would say that it is a biased film as it is made by a Hindu! Anyway....till there are Hindus there is Hindustan. As soon as Hinduism is lost; all is lost and Kashmir is the perfect example.

You showed the human side of suffering of people stuck in conflict. Fine. The most disturbing thing here is the next generation of Kashmiris will never know the feeling of living in harmony or the meaning of cultural tolerance . They will never know the good side of being part of a great society, they will grow up thinking violence and oppression are normal .
As the older generation withers away, so will this vibrant culture that survived multiple invasions over several centuries.
The only thing I could take away from this documentary is that many Kashmiris live in terror in their own home. You can argue about religion nationality social status and so on, but you cannot deny that these people are suffering in India.
This documentary shows that they are as human as you or me , some of these people would have been leading productive lives had it not been for their circumstances.

India has been extremely generous by co-opting these “muslim” migrants even after the Mughal rule ended; allowing them to stay in Kashmir, while subsidizing their entire existence. Kashmir is and has been Indian land for 6,000 years. So, there can no issue of India giving up its own land. Muslim separatist in Kashmir are NOT KASHMIRI as they claim to be. They are alien migrants from Iran and Uzbekistan who sneaked in during Mughal rule. So, there can be no case of them ever having any claim or right of determination over the territory of Kashmir. Only Pandits are the real and only KASHMIRI. They are Indian and so is Kashmir.

I appreciate the film, but its only one side story, I would like to listen from the army as well, what they go through to get the actual militants by putting their life in danger specially when the occupants of the villages shelter them, it becomes hard for them to know who is who for the army. Let me say here, that I am an atheist. I have no religious affiliations whatsoever. I very strobgly hold the opinion that 'religions' are the biggest oppressors of humanity. State or rulers in brazen connivance with the clergy make the best use of this tool called religion. Kashmir is no different.
In the film the pundit family appears 2 or 3 times and in one instance the lady actualy helps the militants to escape. Ashvin it seems never bothered to visit the families of those Kashmiri Pundits who were thrown out of Kashmir and try to find out about their horror encounters. Why Ashvin did not try to know the view points of the Army and their efforts to reach out to the people. I think this is nothing but a propaganda. I am not saying that the muslims did not suffer; but the film is biased.
This film appears completely biased, more than 95% of time the narration is of Kashmiri Muslims that too of militants (former/active) and the supporter of militants, and their view points; as one woman said she allowed militants to hide in her house just because they were Muslims. What about the view points of those Kashmiri Pundit families who were massacred and raped. What about those Kashmiri Pundits (about 3 lakh in 2007) who are living as internally displaced Persons in their own country?

This is a biased documentary without any proof. The film is accepting every statement of a person as a fact. No interviews of families who were killed by militants and govt. informers who were tortured by militants. No interview of the family members of those policemen who were killed by militants. No interviews of Kashmiri pandits who left the state. Such a poorly made documentary serves no purpose other than inflaming emotions and trivializing the complex issue of Kashmir.

Overall the movie is made well. But extremely biased point of view. I think an art work like this would be more respected if it is presented from a nuetral point. Just watched for few mins and wanted to reflect. It seems like a sad attempt by someone to make a controversial movie and gain fame. Not the first example of this. I saw that he interviewed militants who explained how they were brutally tortured. This filmmaker is selling this stuff to gain sympathy for who? A militant should not be alive. One of the most heart warming documentaries ever... The militant, A Crying n Wailing mother, A tortured generation, 40 Women who have witnessed Hell in their lifetime, ... I can only speak for myself . being from Mumbai - this was an eye opener for me .. as a parallel existence of a Kashmir that has some real problems & Issues that have been left unsorted for decades.... An apology from the Government of India, a reduction in troop levels, better and fairer investigations into the crimes committed against civilians will help. As a kashmiri pandit, I feel this documentary is based on facts viz.,
1. Pre 90 sucularism in Kashmir
2. Rigged 1987 elections as trigger
3. Cross border trainings.
4. Suffering of kashmiri muslims .
5. Hope for normalcy
Suffering of KPs in exile is missing. But that is not much in comparison to what muslims face.
I believe the only way to demilitarise kashmir is by making pandits return. Kashmir is incomplete without KPs and so are KPs incomplete without Kashmir and Kashmiri muslims.

Nicely made documentary. Quite a pseudo-secular approach though. The joke is that the Kashmiri Muslims commenting here are praising the movie as showing the 'truth'. If the movie would have shown the mass rape and murder of Hindus by Muslims there (including foreign mercenaries), the same commentators would say that it is a biased film as it is made by a Hindu! Anyway....till there are Hindus there is Hindustan. As soon as Hinduism is lost; all is lost and Kashmir is the perfect example.

Good Job Ashvin... at last somebody from the industry showed some courage and willingness to make a true documentary on kashmir... atleast from a kashmiris viewpoint. It doesnt matter whether the indian community or the officials like it or not, the point is somewhere out there is a true representation of kashmir's suffering. You knew that vitriol will flow because you show one layer of a multi-layered conflict where no one is blemishless, including Kashmiris themselves. But, you pick one & conveniently ignore others. The most disturbing thing here is the next generation of Kashmiris will never know the feeling of living in harmony or the meaning of cultural tolerance . They will never know the good side of being part of a great society, they will grow up thinking violence and oppression are normal .
As the older generation withers away, so will this vibrant culture that survived multiple invasions over several centuries.

The only thing I could take away from this documentary is that many Kashmiris live in terror in their own home. You can argue about religion nationality social status and so on, but you cannot deny that these people are suffering in India.
This documentary shows that they are as human as you or me , some of these people would have been leading productive lives had it not been for their circumstances.

However, they have repaid our kindness and generosity by trying to take our land. So, it is no surprise that they will have to face the consequence. Kashmir is and has been Indian land for 6,000 years. So, there can no issue of India giving up its own land. Muslim separatist in Kashmir are NOT KASHMIRI as they claim to be. They are alien migrants from Iran and Uzbekistan who sneaked in during Mughal rule. So, there can be no case of them ever having any claim or right of determination over the territory of Kashmir. Only Pandits are the real and only KASHMIRI. They are Indian and so is Kashmir.

In the film the pundit family appears 2 or 3 times and in one instance the lady actualy helps the militants to escape. Ashvin it seems never bothered to visit the families of those Kashmiri Pundits who were thrown out of Kashmir and try to find out about their horror encounters. Why Ashvin did not try to know the view points of the Army and their efforts to reach out to the people. I think this is nothing but a propaganda. I am not saying that the muslims did not suffer; but the film is biased.

This film appears completely biased, more than 95% of time the narration is of Kashmiri Muslims that too of militants (former/active) and the supporter of militants, and their view points; as one woman said she allowed militants to hide in her house just because they were Muslims. What about the view points of those Kashmiri Pundit families who were massacred and raped. What about those Kashmiri Pundits (about 3 lakh in 2007) who are living as internally displaced Persons in their own country?

This is a biased documentary without any proof. The film is accepting every statement of a person as a fact. No interviews of families who were killed by militants and govt. informers who were tortured by militants. No interview of the family members of those policemen who were killed by militants. No interviews of Kashmiri pandits who left the state. Such a poorly made documentary serves no purpose other than inflaming emotions and trivializing the complex issue of Kashmir.

.. For once.. forget your respective religion and look at this from a human perspective. A wailing mother, a sobbing wife, a child devoid of innocence - is neither a muslim nor a hindu. It is a collective wrong that our society has done and I feel equally enraged at the plight of Kashimiri Pundits as I do while looking at the sufferings of Muslims in the valley. It is the failure of parents, teachers and our generation that we are unable to teach our kids an essence of human existence - Peace.
