@repeatedattempt You need to understand the Edge's ROLE, its NOT Lead guitar, its NOT rhythm guitar, its a percussion style of play, that IS what U2 is, for sound. His style of play and contribution make U2 the different and well accepted band they are.
How about you UNDERSTAND nothing you said negates what I said. In later years he has been allowed to make too much harsh noise, up front, over the melody. So STFU and stop being such a blind follower.
Why do people want this song to be on the next album? You can free it here for free! I want the album to be full of new songs, not one I've already heard dozens of times.
@Baumanium Yeah, I can't see them putting a song on an album and releasing it as new if it's already been out there in some form - big fans will feel like it's one less new song on any new album.
"Wake Up Dead Man" was originally written for "Achtung Baby", but didn't make it until "Pop". So I'm pretty sure this song will make it on "Songs of Ascent".
Is any fellow U2 fan computer savy enough ti give me detailed instuctions on how, if possible, i can get this song on my ipod. It would be deeply appreciated, i think this song is freakin awesome and i'm befuddled why it is not on an album. Thanks whoever it may concern.
Search in Google for YouTube to MP3, you will get a download version, or a browser version, you can try both.
Enter the URL where needed, then press convert or download, ofcourse save it in a map where you want it. And then play it with iTunes. Then connect your iPod and sync it.
I'm impressed you put Yahweh in the same category as One ( I agree) and it was a huge disappointment they left this off Bomb. I understand why they left it off No Line because they scraped everything before their Fez sessions in June 2007.
"Yahweh" really saved HTDAAB for me. I love the alternative version too with the fuzz guitar approach by Edge. I think they missed an opportunity to make an impression with it as a single release...
NLOTH could have used "Mercy" to really round it out. I am struggling with the album so far. It is tough to navigate, especially "Unknown Caller", "Stand-up Comedy", and the unlistenable "Boots"...
I'm hoping they re-visit "Mercy" for "Songs of Ascent"...It is a very moving, uplifting song...
I hope your feelings change on Unknown Caller I find it almost as uplifing as Mercy but for different reasons. As for the album I would say keep listening! Many of the songs took me 10 listens or more to enjoy and understand.
Interestingly enough, I love the first minute and a half of "Unknown". But when the song continues after"Sunshine, Sunshine..." it feels very disjointed and lost.
With most U2 material, it takes me time to see the light through the initial fog. This one, however, has been the biggest struggle yet.
I do like "Breathe" and "No Line". And, in a strange way, "Fez" may actually work.
I burnt my own copy of NLOTH and it doesn't include Unknown Caller. I took that song out cause I personally think it's awful and simply put Mercy after Stand Up Comedy. I also substituted the album version of NLOTH for the alternate version. The result is a WAY BETTER album in my opinion. NLOTH alt. version Magnificent Moment of Surrender I'll Go Crazy.... Get on Your Boots Stand Up Comedy Mercy Fez-Being Born White as Snow Breathe Cedars of Lebanon
That's pretty cool, i must say a better album there hallucination. But maybe keep Unkown Caller and rid of Boots, to me, that song is among the worst of U2.
P.s can you explain to me how you get mercy on an ipod? Thanks.
@Hallucination I did something similar as well! I added the songs Winter and Mercy, and i took out get on your boots though instead of unknown caller. I also prefer the alt version of the title track
@twochordcool I have to agree with Hallucination. Unknown Caller, to me, is just embarrassing. "PASSWORD (awkward pause) YOU (awkward pause) ENTER HERE (awkward pause) RIGHT NOW"...ugh. Easily the worst chorus of their career. And the three note guitar ring sprinkled throughout the verses is a direct rip-off of Walk On. Unknown Caller is U2's low point. Breathe and Stand Up Comedy arent too far behind, either. I bought NLOTH first day of release. Tried to like it, but I gave up.
@pfctsqr I LOVE all 3 of those songs. To each his or her own but I personally think you're insane! Stand Up Comedy is fun and Breathe is KILLER - go check out their performance of Breathe on David Letterman on youtube - they KILLED it!
@twochordcool I saw the Letterman performance of Breathe. I found it dull. It has an ok guitar, but its not a riff thats in the same league as, say Until The End of the World. But what really kills Breathe is that 1) Bono doesnt really pull of the odd cadence very well. It doesnt suit him at all. AND 2) The TERRIBLE lyrics. I mean seriously...juju man? new asian virus? chinese stocks? cockatoo? Please. Spare me.
although I am a fatithful u2 fan I must say this is kind of meh, especially compared to their other stuff...but then again it might grow on me, who knows.
Brilliant !

THis is a craker. Better than most of the songs on NLOTH with the exception of Moment of Surrender and Being Born...and maybe the title track.

This song is one of the great pieces of music I have ever heard from U2. I think it's there best song since "One" and "Yahweh".
How it continues to miss the cut on the last two albums breaks my heart...

Call me crazy, but this song would have competed with "Yahweh" and "Crumbs..." as the best songs on "How to Dismantle...".
Or, at the very least, this would have been the ideal substitute for the bland "All Because of You"...
