  • Brilliant !

  • Es un temazo descomunal, deberían haberla reservado para su despedida, para su último concierto.

  • What's the use of religion if you're any good?

  • wait... under description it says this is walk on... silly youtube.

  • Subscribed!

  • 2 people thumbed this down? I hope God has "Mercy" on them. Must be Lady GuyGuy or Justine Beaver fans!

  • was there in Brussels on 22/09 what a song

  • The Edge has been allowed to run roughshod over yet another song which could have been perfect

  • @repeatedattempt You need to understand the Edge's ROLE, its NOT Lead guitar, its NOT rhythm guitar, its a percussion style of play, that IS what U2 is, for sound. His style of play and contribution make U2 the different and well accepted band they are.

  • @Formulabruce

How about you UNDERSTAND nothing you said negates what I said. In later years he has been allowed to make too much harsh noise, up front, over the melody. So STFU and stop being such a blind follower.

  • U2 THe BEST Forever

  • ya i just found this song now! where was this for 3 years! is there any other hidden unreleased u2 songs? XD

  • Where did you find this studio version of Mercy? I only know the song from the 360 degrees tour.

  • great song my favorite they play this song live in portugal

  • Beautiful song, that`s U2!!!

  • twochordcool check out breathe on johnathan ross amazing

  • @YippeeKiYay93 I think its a pretty safe bet there will never be an album called Songs of Ascent.

  • Where can I get this song as an uncompressed wave file? On what CD was it released? One of those expensive remastered CD's? The $75 version of NLOTH?

  • Why do people want this song to be on the next album? You can free it here for free! I want the album to be full of new songs, not one I've already heard dozens of times.

  • @Baumanium Yeah, I can't see them putting a song on an album and releasing it as new if it's already been out there in some form - big fans will feel like it's one less new song on any new album.

  • THis is a craker. Better than most of the songs on NLOTH with the exception of Moment of Surrender and Being Born...and maybe the title track.

  • @nickj812 Perhaps as good as Magnificent and Breathe - but not better.

  • Im u2s biggest fan

  • cullen

  • Is any fellow U2 fan computer savy enough ti give me detailed instuctions on how, if possible, i can get this song on my ipod. It would be deeply appreciated, i think this song is freakin awesome and i'm befuddled why it is not on an album. Thanks whoever it may concern.

  • Don't know if you've already accomplished this but I'll email the details to you

  • @GabeU2Fan

Search in Google for YouTube to MP3, you will get a download version, or a browser version, you can try both.

Enter the URL where needed, then press convert or download, ofcourse save it in a map where you want it. And then play it with iTunes. Then connect your iPod and sync it.

  • I can send it to you in MP3...

  • Excellent lyrics,Great music!!!!

  • Some of their best lyrics of recent times

  • great up lifting song hope it gets put on a future album

  • This song is one of the great pieces of music I have ever heard from U2. I think it's there best song since "One" and "Yahweh".

How it continues to miss the cut on the last two albums breaks my heart...

  • I'm impressed you put Yahweh in the same category as One ( I agree) and it was a huge disappointment they left this off Bomb. I understand why they left it off No Line because they scraped everything before their Fez sessions in June 2007.

  • "Yahweh" really saved HTDAAB for me. I love the alternative version too with the fuzz guitar approach by Edge. I think they missed an opportunity to make an impression with it as a single release...

NLOTH could have used "Mercy" to really round it out. I am struggling with the album so far. It is tough to navigate, especially "Unknown Caller", "Stand-up Comedy", and the unlistenable "Boots"...

I'm hoping they re-visit "Mercy" for "Songs of Ascent"...It is a very moving, uplifting song...

  • I hope your feelings change on Unknown Caller I find it almost as uplifing as Mercy but for different reasons. As for the album I would say keep listening! Many of the songs took me 10 listens or more to enjoy and understand.

  • Interestingly enough, I love the first minute and a half of "Unknown". But when the song continues after"Sunshine, Sunshine..." it feels very disjointed and lost.

With most U2 material, it takes me time to see the light through the initial fog. This one, however, has been the biggest struggle yet.

I do like "Breathe" and "No Line". And, in a strange way, "Fez" may actually work.

Just have to keep chipping away...

  • I burnt my own copy of NLOTH and it doesn't include Unknown Caller. I took that song out cause I personally think it's awful and simply put Mercy after Stand Up Comedy. I also substituted the album version of NLOTH for the alternate version. The result is a WAY BETTER album in my opinion. NLOTH alt. version Magnificent Moment of Surrender I'll Go Crazy.... Get on Your Boots Stand Up Comedy Mercy Fez-Being Born White as Snow Breathe Cedars of Lebanon
  • That's pretty cool, i must say a better album there hallucination. But maybe keep Unkown Caller and rid of Boots, to me, that song is among the worst of U2.

P.s can you explain to me how you get mercy on an ipod? Thanks.

  • hey hallucination, to answer your question, i do not have the song at all, so please send me the link to download it. Thanks a lot.

  • @Hallucination I did something similar as well! I added the songs Winter and Mercy, and i took out get on your boots though instead of unknown caller. I also prefer the alt version of the title track

  • @Hallucination You're out of your fucking mind - Unknown Caller is an amazing song - I even thought they should have opened with it on their tour.

  • @twochordcool I have to agree with Hallucination. Unknown Caller, to me, is just embarrassing. "PASSWORD (awkward pause) YOU (awkward pause) ENTER HERE (awkward pause) RIGHT NOW"...ugh. Easily the worst chorus of their career. And the three note guitar ring sprinkled throughout the verses is a direct rip-off of Walk On. Unknown Caller is U2's low point. Breathe and Stand Up Comedy arent too far behind, either. I bought NLOTH first day of release. Tried to like it, but I gave up.

  • @pfctsqr I LOVE all 3 of those songs. To each his or her own but I personally think you're insane! Stand Up Comedy is fun and Breathe is KILLER - go check out their performance of Breathe on David Letterman on youtube - they KILLED it!

  • @twochordcool I saw the Letterman performance of Breathe. I found it dull. It has an ok guitar, but its not a riff thats in the same league as, say Until The End of the World. But what really kills Breathe is that 1) Bono doesnt really pull of the odd cadence very well. It doesnt suit him at all. AND 2) The TERRIBLE lyrics. I mean seriously...juju man? new asian virus? chinese stocks? cockatoo? Please. Spare me.

  • another U2 album yet 2 come this year, hopefully it'll b on that

  • i love this music!!

    u24ever

  • is there a song called mercy on new album??

  • no! Sorry...

  • This song is great, it should have made it to the album it would have been my fav track

  • Gracias...

  • Amazing song.. a great inspiration...

If you people like U2 I want to ask you to listen to my four songs... they are inspired by U2, Keane, Queen. And plesse comment!

  • onerepublic atr inspired by the same people and U2

  • Great song! U2 Rocks!

  • Edge Guitar sounds so beautifull

  • i cant wait for the new album

  • i think this is a best song and would have been the best on bomb next to sycmioyo and cobl

  • Why is it an argument that an album could get longer than one hour? I wouldn't be angry with them...

  • Never heard thsi song... oeps

  • oops, he changed the lyric

  • Sorry, I meant to say... the line is "what's the use of religion, if you're any good." First interpretation was right.

  • Obviously still in demo phase. Great song though. I wonder what it will sound like when it's ready to be put on a new album.

  • this is about as u2 u2 can get. This is very good. im trying to get an mp3 of this, anyone know where i can find one?

  • I , I can't escape myself - love that line

  • although I am a fatithful u2 fan I must say this is kind of meh, especially compared to their other stuff...but then again it might grow on me, who knows.

  • absolute masterpiece,

  • congrats for your video..

i will never agree with them to not put this masterpiece in htdaab

  • it's not any it's

" what's the use of religion, if your only good"

  • Nope, wrong... he was right.

  • justification for one, meaning, strength, reward. theres lots of uses for religion for the good!

  • "What's the use of religion if you're any good?" is my favorite lyric ever.

  • im not realy criticising it, i love u2 more than i can express in words on youtube. im irish too so that probubly helps!

  • oh thats powerfull stuff guys. its 100% U2 at their most U2ist. lyrics are a bit cheesy bono, but ur a bit cheesy sometimes too =)

  • were binary code a one and a zero you wanted violins but you got nero..thats not that cheesy..the chorus may be though

  • it's a great song! i don't know where i could get it as mp3...

  • Call me crazy, but this song would have competed with "Yahweh" and "Crumbs..." as the best songs on "How to Dismantle...".

Or, at the very least, this would have been the ideal substitute for the bland "All Because of You"...

  • how could this song not make the cut. One of the most cathchiest chorus's i've ever heard.

  • read about LOVE-SHYNESS by Brian Gilmartin.

  • i dont see the big deal behind the popularity of this song. the lyrics aren't all that great. the music is ok. i dunno...

  • where'd you get the zootv footage?

  • Love Is Blindness Video

not shore if its an offical video or not

  • Awesome!!!! 5 stars and favorited, i'm so glad i subscribed to you!

    your an incredible video maker.

  • thanks mate
