Venerable Mk IV with plasma Cannon and Powerfist and 2! stormbolters for only 160pts its a great unit now the new rules are outhe gets 3 attacks standard and 4 on charge he pays for himself by turn 2 and keeps going.
First, "mixing it up" and having say the twin-linked laz cannon and dccw is not a good idea. Best to tool the dreadnought to be really good at a single task, either tank hunting or infantry killing. Secondly, on the ironclad, the melta gun is a must if you want to pop a tank. Since you can't assault out of a drop pod, any tank will run away next turn. You need to pop the tank with the melta and/or HK missiles, and then on the next turn assault the troops inside if it's a tansport :)
I think the problem is that Dreads take up elite space and Dreadnoughts also have to rely on number. They have great assault, but that can easily be achieved with a Landraider loaded with a squad of 10 assault terminators. Devastators render tank hunter dreads useless (as mentioned). Finally, the Sternguard make excellent hunters. I always drop a squad of 10 sterns (combat squad) and take out the tanks. I quickly link them up with a LD which comes to save them. Devastators are great for support.
im curious are terminators able to use a drop pod as a dedicated transport i need to know one for my own space marine army and the codex seems kind of vague on this and also when i play necrons or when i get enough of my orks i want to know if a space marine player is not cheating by using drop pods with termintaors, im still kinda new to this so be kind on replies and any help will be appreciated im understanding most of the SM codex but still got some confusing parts
@wakcedout Terminators used to be able to take Drop Pods, but now they have to Deep Strike via Teleport with the new rules. It is kind of confusing if you came in 4th Ed. like me and it hasn't been explained well.
Dreadnoughts or other units that got many weapon options, MAGNETIZE THEM! instead of permanently glue them to the dreadnought, add a little magnet to the arm soo you can just change the unis weapons before the fight, go to MiniWarGamings profile to see how (i know there is a video about it) and no im not making comercial for MWG, im just tipping you to magnetize your units ;)
man you make it sound like Venerable Dreadnoughts are shit sorta, yes the others can do there jobs cheaper but uno when u love to paint than the Venerable Dreadnoughts are the shit, so much detail..... and as a chaos guy as i am no dreadnoughts will ever ever ever pierce chaos armour LOL
i fucking LOVE DREANOUGHTS i love everything about them espiecially the way they look my favorite dreadnought is the grey knights venerable dreadnought...too bad they fucked up the dreads in DOW2
Venerable Dreadnoughts are good don't get me wrong, but at 165pts, give me a Chaos Defiler any day. 72" Battle Cannon, Twin-Linked Lascannon And Power Lash. Daemonic Possession (inc in the base points cost) means it ignores shaken and stunned on the damage table, it has 3 attacks as standard and can upgrade to a further 2 if you choose to take two extra close-combat weapons and to top it all off, it's fleet so it can still assualt even after running instead of shooting.
I eat defilers for breakfast... not kidding while im not an expert player ive made defilers go BOOOOMM!!!!!!!!! /explosion/ chaos marines melting and dying from the heat. Idk what it is but i even got a defiler with a assualt cannon im not kidding... Defilers dont last long against me.
i dont use my defiler in combat.... ever... its always sat at the back of the board and used as mobile artilary that can defend itself in combat should it need to. you're not getting near the defiler to shoot at it with an assult cannon. assult cannon has a range of 24". the highest you can muster range wise in a SM army is 48ins... well, no, thinking about it, the conversion beamer of the techmarine can hit 72", but thats only if you take that model as a HQ choice.
true but hunter killer missiles got unlimited range.... and orbital bombardment with a chapter master and a Thunderfire cannon up to 60" but only a glancing hit since it only a strength 6 weapon
@codecmgs oh it does happen. hell, a lonely Sergeant in my mates SM armoury with a powerfist took down my defiler. its all down to the dice at the end of the day, but the weapons and versatility of the defiler speak for themselves. the large blast template S8 AP3 is the reason why only the sergeant made it into combat out of a ten stong team. having said that, more lucky rolls from my 5 strong chaos chosen unit (3rd ed rules) took down the necron nightbringer in the first round of combat.
dreadnoughts and drop pods are a good tactic. i have only two tanks though. the land raider and a converted chaos baneblade. my friend ash who i play most games with deepstruck 4 dreadnoughts in next to the baneblade and didnt manage to take it out oin the first round of combat. Abbadon, which i usualy sit next to the baneblade then came along and took out both dreadnoughts on one side of the baneblade in one sitting. the other side was dealt with by 20 chaos space marines with krak grenades.
yea dreads are cool bt a dread should have a stat chart like a tau crisis battlesuit. there jst way to easier to kill. as its a bloke in a machine (like the crisis suit) he should have wounds!!!! like the tau, hes a bloke in a suit!!!!!!!
he's nt really though, its an armoured sarcophogus (probs spelt wrong) and the marine inside is damaged 2 a point where he can only fight/fight inside the dread. also the armour is far far heavier
but in game terms dreadnought armour is given to chapter captins or great heros that have fallen only to be blown to crap in turn 1 of a battle. they are great heros hu desserve to be able to have like 2 wounds atleast with 2 plus armour save and only allowed 0-2 dreands per company. its stupid the marine codex has so much wrong with it im makeing my own unofficial codex.
I absolutely agree. The Dreadnought has for a long time been one of those really cool options that wasn't all that great when all was said and done. I'm really happy that such an awesome looking unit with such great fluff is final a heavy weight on the table too.

@Crocketman1990 Yeah... but nevertheless they still take up the Elite space. It doesn't matter if you're playing a game of 3,000 points.

no, terminators can't embark in drop pods or any other trasport except the land raider.
finnaly, someone who agrees that lascannons, power fist and heavy flamer.
I also agree with the huricane bolter, LEAVE IT AT HOME!!!!!!
