Seeing the Shamisen with two strings reminds me of a similar-sounding (but different-looking) two-stringed traditional Philippine instrument known as the Kujapin/Kujapi (Kuzyapin/Kuzyapi).

But for the song itself... WOAH! The older generation is turning touhou! That's it-- touhou is officially no longer just a game series, but a facet of Japanese Culture!

@shaamat00 learn your history son, Kenshin Uesugi was a monk and so was Benkei technically, both brandish swords and are well learnt in culture, music and art. in the days of yore, it is common for monks, artisans, samurai, high leveled social circles to be well versed in all corners of art, music, war, strategy, as well as general knowledge. You can't get into 'inner circles' without a proper connection, and some samurai are said to be great opera performers as well.
