Am I the only person who think it's quite profound the way Juliet calls the bomb "son of a bitch"? Looks like she picked up a few habbits from Sawyer...
kate becomes a criminal, sawyer becomes possessed with revenge, the marriage jin and sun came to a failure, jack hates is father by becoming more self-confident, sayid also became possessed with revenge and hurley... well, he goes back to the island...
and for the "why?" - so they can fit his twisted plan..
Good point. It may be that Jacob simply watched over those he touched. He may have known what was in store for them. Kate killed her father but he would have been abusive long before she met with Jacob and Sawyer had already set his heart on revenge when Jacob told him he was sorry for his lost. Jack was a grown man when he met with Jacob and had history of rage against his father. Jack hates his father/hates his lack of control and has spent his life trying to control everything.
Jin and Sun already had terrible issues with her father before they got married. It may be that all the characters are flawed as all humans and Jacob has given them all a second chance, hope that is the case. Sun was unable to conceive and has a healthy baby girl because she was on the island. Rose and Bernard are the only ones that made the best of their second chance, they were happy to be together, no matter what. I think there is going to be a deep story to it all. I hope so.
The funny thing is Kate is on the run for the murder of her abusive pervert father. In a western court of law she would serve a very short sentence, if at all for the extenuating circumstances that lead her to kill her father. The way her father looked at her before she put him to bed, shows what Kate had had to live with and her mother too. Kate promised Jacob she would not steal again, at the time she may not have known much about her own father, she met him in later years.
even though it doesn't fit perfectly (as you mention Kate's story). maybe they do get a second chance, and the issues that they had came long before Jacob. but if so, what is the significance of the individuals that Jacob met? it's seems that he has bigger plans to them. but still... where's Locke fits in....?? :)
