@jj947372 hi, for 31 years I suffered with what I thought was a bad back, it was not until they diagnosed the tumour and had the operation that i got any pain relief. Now it is as if I am back to being 16 and am able to do things I have not for years, the best thing is sneezing they are so good when not linked with pain so I think she will be no problem and she should take up everything she did before the operation.
Thanks, my daughter is 17, about to be 18. She broke her back cheerleading in 2009, and a couple weeks ago went to have her final visit and they found the lesion. They dont know what it is yet and so we wait. It is 1.1 cm tall and .7 cm wide. I think it will end up the ependymoma type, They are looking to see if it is possibly an expression of neuro fibromatosis. She has never had a single symptom.
@jj947372 hi I hope you get a diagnosis soon so you know what to expect. I think the reason your daughter is not worried is because she has been through the restrictions of the broken back. the only way I can describe how you feel after the operation is when you have been to the gym and done far too much for your fitness level so you wake up the next day feeling like a plank of wood and you are restricted to the movements you can do. I think because she did not have any symptoms that means that
@jj947372 she has not had any of her nerves damaged or restricted so her recovery will be a lot easier. please let me know how you go on, If you need any more information than please ask
Are you in England? We live in Birmingham, ALabama, USA, and we have some really great surgeons here. I dont think my daugher is that worried about it, its her mother and I who are worried. We just dont know what to expect, actually we are still waiting on a bonafide diagnosos. We are in complete limbo. Do you know what the actual type of tumor was that you had removed?
@jj947372 hi I am in Barnsley Yorkshire England, if you have seen the film Kez that was filmed where I live! The tumour was a conus ependymoma according to the follow up letter from the hospital. I think the doctors forget that this is a new thing to us but the usual proceedure for them. I think because it is rare there is no one to talk to about it, I have not met anyone here who has had this opperation so it is nice to talk to you. How old is your daughter?
@jj947372 Hi my tumour was 6cm long on the scan just lower than my hip bone, I think it was in L2 to L4but not positive, the reason the surgery took so long was the tumour had wrapped itself around what they call the horses tail, that is where your spinal cord finishes and your nurves seperate to go different directions. so it was inside my spinal cord.Tell her not to be too upset as it sounds realy serious when they talk about doing the surgery but they are brilliant dedicated surgions.
Hey thnaks for responding....who did your surgery? Was this a tumor on the spinal cord or the Spine or both and how big was it? My daughter has one about 1 cent by .7 cent at L1
@jj947372 Hi the surgery was done at the Royal Hallamshire in England by Dr Battacharyya, a brilliant man who said the operation would take 6 hours but actually took him 11.5 he sttuck in there and removed 99% of it.
@jj947372 Hi I had an operation to remove a tumour in June 2010, I am 48 years old. It is 7 months now and I am doing brilliant, I still have a little numbness in my leg and one of my feet. Straight after the operation I had 2 days bed rest to make sure I did not compromise the surgery. I got up on the 3rd day with the help of the nursing staff and was encouraged to walk as much as I could up and down the ward, all the time you are on pain killers to control any pain you may be in.
@jj947372 I was back at work after 3 months. you have to take things slowly at your own pace. It is good to do more and get stronger. The operation was eleven and a half hours but for me it was only 3 seconds and was completed, I am so pleased I had it done. If you want to email feel free to do so. good luck.
Hi I am scheduled to have a similar procedure done very soon. I have a lesion at L1-L2. How was the recovery? How soon were you walking.driving and back to normal life and work? I wioll appreciate if you did reply!
Are you back strong and able to do all that you have ever done? SHe wants to runb and just be

Thank you for posting this. I had a similar procedure done back in November of 2009. It is nice to see what the surgeon did to remove my tumor.
