  • The Hendrix one is waaaay better.

  • EIGHTIES!

  • I'm pretty sure it is a chicken foot.

  • not necessarily beautiful, but mutated.

  • I'd heard about this one for ages, but never actually saw it before now. Thanks!

  • may I land my kinky machine?

  • What's funny about this video now is that the references to the 60s and those 80's outfits are both retro now ;)

I always loved this crazy DEVO remake... some won't appreciate it, but DEVO always had a sense of nostalgia and humor

  • what is this a remake of?

  • this seems like a real question that is easy enough to answer. This is a Jimi Hendrix song. This is a devo "cover," much like their brain-popping "Can't Get No (Satisfaction)" cover.

  • I haven't heard the original, but this version kicks some serious ass.

  • toil is stupid !!!!

    hahahaha

had to be from the guys of DEVO

    awesome!

  • good video

  • I love most Devo videos. This one is also a gas.

  • Heavy wave and Jimi was a heavy wave! Hansen's lick is great! Never heard it before tonight awesome!

  • I tell you, I bet Jimi have would loved this. It had the whole Sci-Fi vibe and all that good stuff. I love it!

  • -Jimi loved THE GOON SHOW from BBC radio back in the fifties -The idea of him cackling (probably in a cool New York accent) at Spike Milligan & Peter Sellar`s crazy surreal comedy is a timeless image.

  • I know Jimi preceded these guys in coming to earth from another planet...

  • Yeah and David Bowie fell to Earth somewhere in-between both of them.

  • toil is stupid :D

  • good old Hendrix cover

  • They should stop eating cake- it's gone straight to their asses.

  • That made me laugh out loud.

  • .) It is a cool video and tribute- but the inflatable pants cracked me up too

  • Of all weird things this is the weirdest...I love it.

  • some of the trippiest shit ever. i love it.

  • Very, very deep structure, one of Devo's best. You have to go throught puberty two or three times before you get it..."but you will if you take hold of my hand"...

  • Wildness. They threw in the Third Stone from the Sun riff, too.

  • Wow I have never seen this video. This was great. Thank for putting this up. Wish it was on the DVD

  • Hey, this is a pretty good version of the song.

  • This is about as cool as it gets, boy! Thanks for posting!

  • You cn see Mark's art in their videos, this one especially.

  • I've always dug this...Bummer I can't check it out.

  • The Hendrix estate made the right decision.

  • I CANNOT even begin to Thank you enough for having this RARE treat to share with us all. I LOVED this. My friends hated it. I still think it's an incredible reinterpretation. And Grooooovy!

  • Not necessarily beautiful...but mutated!

  • The blonde groupies remind me of Village of the Damned.

The 2 kids at the end are the offspring of one or more members of DEVO

  • The girl is Bob 1's daughter. She was also the baby in the video for "The Day My Baby Gave A Surprize".

  • SWEET FIND.

  • Focused by 1980's scientific heathenism and almost fictional technological advancement, comes the specter of none other than Jimi Hendrix, racing through the ether of time-space and compelled by forces beyond our control or understanding, to bring a taste of harmony and spiritual advancement, only to return to his contrived, static grave. Truly the greatest achievement of any historical epoch.

  • Wow. Deep thoughts.

  • is the guitar solo that starts at about 2:15

from the original are you experienced?

or is it from another jimi hendrix song?

  • its from another jimi hendrix song called "third stone from the sun"

  • i like the part when hendrix woke up from the grave! haha

  • I think this is Devo's most bizarre video. Excellent!

  • long live D.E.V.O. I'M CHILD OF THE LATE 70'S WHEN DEVO PLAYED THEIR FIRST SONG... LOVE E'M

  • Devo videos are still weirder than most of the flashy CGI-drenched crap today. What a fantastically weird cover.

  • HEY!

  • oh man, as awesome as i remembered.

  • No longer available? I just died a little.

  • It's a Chicken Foot!!!!

  • Amen, this is pure gold. One of the coolest and most avant garde music videos out there.

  • i like some of Devo's stuff like the album "freedom of choice" etc

but this is a bad cover of a great tune

  • Either you weren't a child of the 80s, or I'm not sure you 'get it'.

  • I never heard this Tune in the 80's, this is a Hit to me today.

  • I've always liked this cover, even though the production probably could have been better.

I don't understand, however, why at least 4 people gave your comment a "Poor" rating. I guess some people can't handle contrary opinions... So much for your "Freedom of Choice."

    Take Care,

    Joe

  • Music is subjective, what happened on 9/11/01 is fact. Or maybe you think that Elvis had something to do with it!

  • History is subjective.

  • I absolutely loved this from the moment I first heard it. I think this is one of Devo's best covers and one of the group's most trippy dance songs, next to "That's Good". Shout may have been the worst Devo album to come along, but this was definitely a good song from it.

  • Im going to have to say im not a fan of this

  • This is from their album Shout. True it was not their best work but the songs were still good. It got some play on KROQ at the time. This is a funny remake of the song Jimi probably did turn over in his grave.

  • I'm the first to say that Devo was one of the most original bands to ever hit the 80's. And one of the most inspirational ever. But, this is a low point in all of the great work they did. Suck ass remake. And an insult to Jimi. I now remember when this came out. I wish I had not found it again. I'll quit looking.

  • Hell'ya they were one of the first. In adition to being extraordinary musicians, Devo were also very creative visual and performing artists who pionered music video, took musical theatre to a new level and began a whole new revolution in imagery and performance. Now did Hendrix do THAT at all? Lets give Devo their due. They were true and total renaisance guys.

  • O RLY??

  • if you hate devo you gotta still respect them for music videos they were one of the firsts... so devo ate some acid an coverd this song????

  • Not as much as The Beatles.

  • Wonderful cover! Never seen this till tonight. Hendrix lives on!

  • its a flyin saucer goodbye!

  • F'ing brill cover, LOVE IT!!!

  • Fucking brilliant!

  • Whether you love them or hate them, DEVO is a major music innovator. The guys have influenced those from underground to main stream pop culture. Just watch TV. They have had direct influence in everything from cartoons to advertising commercials. Quite a large spectrum for any business musicians. They continue to create in fields way beyond just music!!! Open Ur eyes and look around!!

  • Yes, shaaaaame. This is a good cover. Very weird. . .

  • Thanx, Devo!

  • not there best album, like the honda scooter

  • (contd. from below. This damn character limit) And Devo truely are among the most brilliant and imaginative creative acts in music history who'd, for a time, taken both music and imagery into the space age before all you'r heavy metal, neo-60's and grunge neanderthals came along and set it back again. I'm only sory that Devo did'nt manage to totaly exterminate you assholes. So therefore, go take a fleabath!

  • AMEN! I salute you.

  • And piss on all you stupid guitar hero idolizing ( the phallic factor ) hippy dolts, piss on you'r icons and piss on you'r "late 60's & early 70's,...Good but 80's,..Baaaaad" bullshit. I'm one person who just does'nt buy it.

  • Actualy I dont consider this the greatest thing Devos ever done. No I much prefer Devos own original tunes. Like give me 'Beutiful World, Mongoloid, Too Much Paranoias, Goin Under, Speed Racer, Gates of Steel, Blockhead, Smart Patrol/Mr. DNA or 'Jocko Homo over this song here, or any other by Hendrix for that matter.

  • Actualy I dont consider this the greatest thing Devo's ever done. No I much prefer Devo's own original tunes. Like give me 'Beutiful World, Mongoloid, Too Much Paranoias, Goin Under, S

  • Are You Experienced was written by Jimi Hendrix and first preformed by The Jimi Hendrix Experience. It was released on the first album by The Jimi Hendrix Experience, which was also called Are You Experienced.

  • I have to say that I think the Devo version makes more sense, both logically and musically, than the Hendrix version.

Ah, Devo, you can still generate angry debates 25 years later. People, don't hate what you don't understand.

  • Not necessarily stoned...but beautiful!

  • Reading those comments, it seems to me that i'm obliged to CHOOSE between 60's and 80's.

That's stupid. Hendrix is amazing and so is Devo. Both contributed greatly to music.

    I understand Devo's critics. And I keep being a 60-lover, hippie-wannabe.

  • you just don't get it man. you just don't understand. devo is beyond what humans can barely comprehend

  • Funy, is'nt it, how these ignorate baby boomer hippie neanderthals, exemplified by this dumb lox below, were formerly consiserd the "progresives" in their heyday yet became, by the 1980's, the very ones who were trying to halt and belitle progres and inovation! Well this, my fellow spuds, was part of what Devo were comenting on and reacting against.

  • Well Devo were pretty amazing too in their own right fool. Piss on you'r stupid little childe of the sixties generational bias you ignorate stuck in the mud hipie neanderthal! Inovation did'nt stop with the sixties. I cant wait till you all just die off.

  • that's your opinion, but rock and roll, and hippies totally OWN your ass.

Maybe you should listen to Hendrix's song

instead of trying to e-fight with people, goofball.

  • Rock and roll, and hippies have, as of yet, not owned my ass.

  • On ya Grandad.

  • You can't compare the two, they're complete opposites in their styles of music. They were both leaders in innovation and creativity. Equally awesome for their time....DUMBASS!

  • devo was far better than hendrix

  • Have loved this since it came out on 'Shout!'.and have been a devolutionized spudboy for years(since their beginning).Glad to see so many on here that still enjoy this video!

  • you = faggot.

and thats more words than you deserve.

  • LOL HE CAN HAS STYEL

  • anybody that doesn't get this is Devolved :)

  • i can't believe i never saw this?!?!?!

  • ah yes! prime mvt when kooky was cool. we need these guys today! everybody kook out!!screw you french tards commenting on this what the hell does france have to offer? like forever?

  • that was totally rad!!!

  • Reading the comments here I see dEvO "Ervolutionized" "Mucis" -cool through being... and loomis, -yes, yes you are missing something. <;¬)

  • Guess I'm just too devolved to get it. ;)

  • ....and now you know too much - guards! -seize him!!

  • Maybe I'm just stupid, but I don't see how this is an attack on hippies, a parody of Hendrix, or anything more than Devo just having fun covering a rock legend and making a cool video. Am I missing something here?

  • J'ai découvert Devo avec cette reprise de Jimi Hendrix ! Ce fut un choc musical et culturel quand je me mis à acquérir la quaso totalité de la discographier de ces E.T.I. !

  • Nice song nice cover of the king Jimi Hendrix

  • It seems to me that a lot of people are using this song as a weapon to bash other people about what ever, it is what it is, a light harted jape at hippies/ hendrix cultist and a chance for devo to do something weird. hell im pissed off with people treating hendrix as a god.

  • how many hippies mutated into yuppies assholes? :D hmmm The Big Chill

  • Devo gave their own mutated twist to are you experienced..i like it. screw the Hendrix estate they are in it for the money, Janie and Leon Hendrix are too screwed up to do things right anyway. this song and video in no way disrespects Jimi.

  • It kind of looks like Devo is more parodying the times, and how the pacifist, naturalist movements of the 60's were totally lost on the 80's.

I also think it's alot light hearted than you people make it out to be, I think it's just something they thought would be funny, not because they hated Hendrix or had some kind of agenda against the hippy movements.

  • Everything about DEVO can be taken tongue in cheek, but I think they did have strong convictions on issues. DEVO formed at Kent State just in the aftermath of the National Guard shootings, and Casale has said the day those students died was the day he stopped being a hippy. He also said he started making music then because the alternative was going on the street and shooting cops. Pretty heavy stuff!

  • Some think this is an homage to Hendrix, but I doubt it. The cover--and especially the video--is a knock on hippy culture. Seems silly now, but back in the 80s the hippy days weren't that far removed. And remember that DEVO actually had been a band since the early 70s. DEVO clearly don't like hippies, or anything they stand for.

  • clocked down.

  • An absolute gem! Thanks for posting! 5*s

  • Classic DEVO!!! DEVO farewell to J.Hendrix...

    Very Good! Funny, criative, fantastic!!!

  • I don't see how the Hendrix estate can legally ban this from being ion the DVD, as it's clearly protected under parody laws.

  • What the fuck ahahah awesome!

  • rust never sleeps

  • Devo snuck a second Jimi song into this. When Jimi comes back he does 3rd Stone from the Sun. I love Jimi Hendrix and this song has it's own perverse take that I like in a different way. The videos help the songs make so much more sense.

  • first time i've seen tht, one of the best devo videos. mighty boosh blatantly were inspired by tht in creating rudy. crying shame its not on the devo dvd.

  • LOL. The guy playing Hendrix in this video looks alike lot the 'Jimi" in that bogus Hendrix porn film.

  • Alright it's like this....this video is a anti drug statement. Hendrix died of a overdose. I guess his estate didn't like the connection. Coming out of a casket doesn't help either....DEVO has made other anti drug statements in other tracks like Good thing. Remember? It's going good till, you get stoned. Yet alot of DEVO early tracks seem to be drug inspired...like Mechanical man. Just say no.

  • "Life's a bee without a buzz, it's going great, till you get stung"

    Wrong, wrong.

  • Oh...it's stung? not stoned? My mistake...now I guess I can go out and get fried...Thanks...

  • Please do!

  • Needless to say the estate of Jimi Hendrix told Devo to cease and desist the distribution of this video....However..I liked it.

  • They weren't trying to

  • What's a jimi?

  • JIMI HENDRIX!!!!

  • Never heard of him...

  • Then...you just were not there.

  • well thats what I liked about devo when I first heard it, THEIR SONGS WERE DIFFERENT

  • Maybe not BETTER than the original per se, but equally good in a different way. Amirite?

  • Better then original??? What is the name of your psychiatrist??

  • This is far, far better than the original.

  • es genial este grupo aleman, sobretodo sus uniformesjajajajaj son originales y buenos saludos desde rancagua dee chile

  • actualmente no son alemanes, son de los Estados Unidos

  • Once they lost that primative sound (after the 3rd album) they became just another faceless new wave band. This is awful.. They were so smart and they chose to become cartoon characters. So sad..

  • I disagree. The earlier albums were better..but Nutra and Oh No were wonderful.

  • Yeah, 'Shout!' was probably the worst of the first era, but that video is one of the best, no doubt. The lava lamp Sonny Bono suits are GOLD.

  • wow. devo in their usual wacky way, but they REALLY do kick ass! I think Hendrix would love it...

  • This album is GREAT. It's such fucked up music. A misunderstood gem

  • that was so very strange

  • hendrix's was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better.

  • Devo wasn't trying to be better...it's called satire you chuff bag!

  • Supremely weird, funny and cool---GREAT!

  • i know theyre not trying to be better, all im saying is that hendrix's is way better/original.

  • This is truly momentous, historic and epic in creative scope!

  • Hendrix would have sooooo dug this.

  • Devo Was 80's they presonifed What they consider todays punk they expermented with sounds you never hear anymore its 80's at its best in my opion, Devo never kills itself just reinvents itself.

  • This is my favorite Devo song, even if it is a cover.

  • This album was a GIANT SHIT BURGER!!!! It single handedly

    killed my love of DEVO!

  • "This album was a GIANT SHIT BURGER!!!!"

    Harsh but true.

  • My memory could be wrong, but as I recall, DEVO was sick of getting shafted by WB at this point. They knew (maybe were even warned) that the ONE THING they weren't allowed to screw with was sacred JIMI. So they made a crappy album, and centered it around the most offensive Hendrix cover/video they could come up with. WB's response was to say, "we're bigger than you. You're fired. And noone will ever see the video again, at least after we make sure we won't make any money from it first..."

  • jimi was a loser anyway. the same thing with morrison. they didnt live long enough to see the payout. this song is about being clocked down by death.

  • oh by the way i love the two jimmys music. so dont take my comment the wrong way. this version of experienced, was a real trip when it first came out on mtv.

  • how can anyone be pissed at this?!?! they brought jimmy back from the dead. we should bow down before this.

  • This was always my favorite Devo video. I wonder if it was the image of Jimmie coming out of the groovy R.I.P. coffin that offended the Hendrix estate and caused them to not release it. Too bad. Thanks for uploading it Gadgetman2000!

  • My brain just broke. Sometimes I myself can't believe that I like this stuff.

  • I like this better than Hendricks version

  • Devo totally made this Hendrix tune different.

  • Whoa! Flashback!
