@BanterousWanderings claggy means sticky, so I don't know how that applies here, also clag means to stick, like stick it on the wall or clag it on the wall as an example.
@MrBriancollison In one definition, yes. However, I've already stated that it is possibly derived from the Scots "clag" - a sooty dirt, which makes sense
@tmotorman just some stupid term someone came up with, they really meant EXHAUST SMOKE or exhaust fumes.
Can look at this and see why we have global climate change, all this filth never goes away as the earth's atmosphere is a closed and sealed environment like a fishtank with a lid on it.
@NativePrairieWolf That right! I agree with you!! Looks like that thing should be put in the shop and rebuilt...or scrapped! Even our engines here in the US are not allowed to do that anymore.
@tmotorman Just think, that's only ONE engine, multiply that by how many are in use in a typical day and the scope of the problem becomes more apparent. All this- just to move goods and people from one location to another location.
@110samec That wasnt my POINT, my point is human overpopulation and demand for frivolous goods, services and things is what creates this demand to move things long distance from one place to another- burning enormous amounts of polluting fossil fuels in the process for so temporary a thing as sightseeing, trips or whatever.
@NativePrairieWolf I get that. It seems daft that we import food from far away places (e.g. strawberries)and their ones that we grow enough of here. It seems stupid to do that.
Yeah I agree...english locos (and many other european locos) are homely as hell! Not much for engineering and design. What's with all that exhaust? Burning a little oil? It did have pretty good load though, especially if cars were full. (oh excuse me! carriages)
@bronzeonion Hi again. Those tracks look pretty heavily used. Do they have many derailments there? What is their track speed there? Why all the ballast piled up between the tracks?
@tmotorman Yes quite heavily used, as far as I know there have been no derailments on that stretch of line and I dont know why the ballast is piled up between the two lines. Hope that answered your question :)
@dominikdanio111 Personally I hate the horn on US trains, The Russian diesel loco that clags like a fucker is great, but im going to have to stick with UK Class 56 as best diesel loco
@bronzeonion the train is great without train like this, you wouldn't have the trains you have now. the horn sounds so sad, but was only a quick horn, if he/she would have gotten into it a little longer would have sounded much better
@sweiland75 Thanks! I had 70x to play with so I may aswell have made good use of it, unfortunately the camcorder that filmed this clip has died, but my new one has 78x
After watching this it made me wonder how long it will take the government to impose the green tax scam on the railways like they did with aircraft passengers.
Of course the hypocrisy is that you are NOT allowed to smoke a cigarette on an OPEN air platform, yet one of these things can go coughing past belching out all that shit!
Deltics are pretty sweet, they looked really good as well, not so utilitarian. In BR Green they looked amazing but nothing on the prototype livery on the one in NRM!
I don't know about this. It is hard to understand. I guess there are people out there like that. And when it's done, you will never see it again. Oh well. Good video.
I like the work Bronzeonion, its cool. The zoom lense was clear from the point the Video was taken, and rolled back to were you were standing. Fantastic camra work with this posting, and thanks for the posting very intresting. Cheers and a happy new year.
@MsDrummermike Thank you, unfortunately this camera has broken, but a new one with 78x optical zoom arrived yesterday which is 8 more than the one used in this video
Yes, I am Bloody well wishing I was in the front window of 55022 Clagging the heck out of the town!!! :)
Unfortunately, that would be the old Zontar that would most likely do that, while I am the newer Zontaar. Don't worry, I am still the same Deltic Luvin Alien, it is just that I have moved to Canada to be with Deltor and our 440,000 kids!
And here is hoping that Zontar will still make appearances sometimes.
Me and the kids are getting a mini Deltic in production! :)
I'm no expert on British diesels, but the smoke seems to be coming from one exhaust only. Does this suggest that only one section of the engine needs some TLC?
@BoilerRoom4 Yes, 'Deltics' were twin-engined. The locos always pulled away on one engine with the second kicking in at 27-29mph when full power can be applied. The second engine's rpm would jump from idle at 700rpm to somewhere near full power at 1500rpm. They are also two-stroke engines, which smoke more that four-stroke engines do. Add to this how the loco would probably have been plodding through London at 20mph for ages, 'oiling up' its silencers. These factors result in the smoke you see.
@sydmichel Its so on the return trip, it will be hauled by the rear loco rather than spending more money getting access to turn the front loco around. But yes it can also be there for a back up, railtour companies face fines etc if it is because one of their trains has broken down that normal services are delayed or cancelled.
@woodscritter To rail enthusiasts, the smoke from a diesel engine is reffered to as 'clag'. Seeing as this is a Youtube channel aimed at rail enthusiasts that 'verbiage' is more suitable than smoke or Carcinogen.
@bronzeonion very nice i will have to look for this while over there doubtfull I will see it in a few weeks when I arrive there but I hope to in July when I do the Great Britain 5
