  • Good mornings are awesome, I will be using them WAY more often now. I recently learned that some of the strongest people in the world do 70% of their max effort days as good mornings, or some variation of it.

  • The good morning is my FAVORITE accesory lift for

    1. Lower back injury prevention

    2. Allowing to to squat heavy ass weights :)

  • Its ironc how a 500 lb good morning seems like it would leave you with many "agonizing mornings" in the future lol

  • and you just fucked your back in so many ways that was a shitty squat

  • Too much knee extension. You're taking away the emphasis that should be on the hamstrings and putting it onto your quads. Keep them knee's straight (or slightly bent, but don't straighten) and do it.

  • I don't know many techniques in a squat rack but squat, front squat, and arms extended, so I'm kinda new to this stuff lol. So what are Good Mornings and what's the proper form on how to do them?

  • No complaints on form here except for the fact that good mornings should begin on the concentric part instead of the eccentric to copy the way deadlifts are started and you can try more weight while being safe

  • @spmspm1000 i've done them both ways. however, you can't use more weight with a concentric only because it is then a pin good morning, or suspended chain, etc. which is much harder to perform = less weight

  • @ultramegasweet you're right.

  • Hey us Fat Jolly PL have to stick together ultramegasweet my best is 405lbs I have a couple of lifts i posted on my page check them out for me if you would.

  • Lol i have come to find when your a powerlifter you catch more shit. You don't ever hear us talking about your shit no!We go we lift and have fun.and if you understood any part of teh concept of a powerlifting squat you would see this lift strengthens your lower back and helps build explosiveness in the hips and erectors which in sense if your not a shallow squatting knees a foot in of your toes would find this extrodinary useful lift.

  • I'm sick of these people calling this exercise stupid when they spend more time on computers than under bars. This is an ASSISTANCE EXERCISE; its meant to correct a weakness. You don't see some lifters do this exercise because they obviously do not have the weaknesses that this guy does.

  • this is not good for a spine at all

  • @MsH1h1h1h1 neither is your mom, but i still do it

  • @MsH1h1h1h1 Louie Simmons, one of the top strength and conditioning coaches on Earth, would disagree with you.

  • @MsH1h1h1h1 prove it

  • heavy ass weights for that movement.. and as for hurting youself, well that can fucking happen anytime with most exercises if you want to push your limits!

  • this dude is fuckn stupid... if i was in that gym id be laughing at him...dudes a joke

  • @everydayidiealilmore he is dumb. im sure he'd be laughing about your pansy ass 1/4 squats as well....but what a douche he must be.

  • ...............

  • I don't get the point of this.

  • @Dirtylickins2 me neither. i just move shit around for fun

  • @Dirtylickins2 for strongman competition this exercise will help you for the ATLAS STONE event

  • @ricardozs1983

Ahhh. See I figured practicing with atlas stones will help you with the atlas stone event. Or sled pulls. If you're trying to tighten that area.

  • Gay

  • @Udunce2020 just the way u like it

  • That's a regular powerlifter squat

  • It can be used for both

  • to ultramegasweet..not going to talk down on your lift or anything, which it is an impressive feat of strength, but in my opinion arent good mornings mainly used to help stretch out your hamstrings and not meant for maxing out.

  • Dude's going to hurt himself.

Just reading the description made me laugh: "chalk + belt + good morning". Chalk because you might lose your grip? Weight belt with an exercise meant to strengthen your lower back/hams?

This guy has no fucking idea what he's doing. Hopefully no one takes this garbage seriously and tries it themselves. Idiot's probably a personal trainer at his shitty gym, too. Way to be.

  • @macchiavelli64 you're an ass clown. way to troll. put something up yourself instead of bitching about 2 year old footage, internet warrior.

  • That was a very high quality good morning. Right to parallel. Great strength. I believe the world record holder in this lift was the great Bruce Randall who got up to a single with 645 back in the fifties. He was a huge blimp and then trained down to 180 and won the Mr. Universe contest. I believe it took him about two years to lose nearly 200 lbs.

  • @LaszloBencze Correct, he couldn't squat consistently do to leg injuries so he used god mornings as a replacement.

  • No no no..

  • can someone tell me, and see if this MAKES SENSE ?

ok i go 500 lbs for 1x Rep only doing Good Morning now, that 1x Single Rep will make any different to my lower muscles ? isnt better to do a Good 8x Reps up to 15x Good REPS , and make a great workout for your legs than just doing 1 lousy Rep with so much Weight for what ? does it makes any purpose doing 1x Rep than making a 15x Reps ? probably if this was a lifting competition that will be totally different of course.

  • @ChickenM4ster you fucktard just imagine football or rugby contacts how much force the combined speed and weight attack on the back you idiot , this exercise with heavyweight is the way to go for a REALLY strong back , GO SUCK A DICK YOU PUSSY

  • @sdfefde , well i guess you havent went hit snap city yet or perhaps you did and still dont learn the fucking lesson ? lol check this out homo /watch?v=5isGaki9abs , and your mom never like to get fuck by your dad always keep calling me to tap that old dry pussy she has. i dont mind good shit for me , i LUV MILF son . beeouch..

    /watch?v=5isGaki9abs

  • @ChickenM4ster i agree with sdfefde, you are a fucktard. Nice word usage

  • @ultramegasweet /watch?v=5isGaki9abs check it out,

  • what an idiot :D

  • to itsKevin7..I can promise I have lifted more officially than you ever have or ever will..for what its worth None of the lifters in other countries use that much in the good morning..it is not safe and not conducive to building strength...if it were believe me you would see them do it..

  • @418cjpaul yes they do.

  • i will conclude by wishing you good luck in your attempt to gain greater strength....it would be nice to put some of that back strength to use in olympic lifting

  • to ultramegasweet..with all due respect that is not what i said...the russians bulgarians etc go WAY over 225 in all their exercises but not in good mornings...they do NOT use it as a strength building exercise..

  • @418cjpaul i know what you meant. my answer is still the same

  • @418cjpaul show a video of you doing a 500lb good morning and then you can give advice on what you think but if not then just stfu.....

  • It looks like me squatting.

  • that was a good feat of strength but i think you are asking for trouble doing singles like this.the russians and bulgarians do not go much above 220 but they do them fast and deep...i believe you would get more out of them by using 225 for 5 sets of 10 reps..go to where your back is close to parallel with the floor

  • @418cjpaul so everyone gets super strong and world record level by not going over 225? i would've never guessed

  • @ultramegasweet Rippetoe/Killgore in SS says you shouldn't go over 225 in the GM. Rippetoe actually elaborates in a Q&A post. Someone asked about heavy GM's and in particular why Westside does them, and Rippetoe's answer was "I've done them heavier (than 225), and my back is fucked up. The guys at Westside don't care if their backs are fucked up, and they like them so they probably work. They worked for me, but like I said, my back is fucked up. " I'll give you the link if you want?

  • @dhilbert83 BTW that's insane strength, MUCH more than I can ever do (or ever will), and by no means am I bitching or trying to act like an internet warrior, just indicating that doing them at this weight might not be a good idea.

  • @dhilbert83 i've heard that but I think its up to the individual. I've never hurt my back from these (yet) and they work well for me. Example, I can't do extensions for tri's for shit or my elbows need percocets for the next week. Haven't read SS yet

  • I would think if you can good morning 500lbs, wouldent it be 100 times more safe and effective just to squat it. especially a a weight you can only do for 1 rep. props thats alot of weight

  • 500 pounds is 500 pounds, it was a workout. All I wanna know is what kind of plates are those!? They are so thin!!! I have a need of thin plates. My hex shrug bar can hold 1000# but theres no way I am fitting that many plates on it with my big ass thick plates. Lemme know!

  • @bengoziak i believe they are IGX plates. check em out

  • @bengoziak either you are using rubber weights which take up more room because of their density, or you are using metal 25s which have a smaller diameter and take up more room on the bar. Metal 45s are generally the same size.

  • I may have, but a good morning is with weight in front of your knees and this definitely was and I make my good mornings like that to mimick my deadlift

  • @ultramegasweet somebody has been reading westside

  • way too much knee bend not trying to talk shit but you squatted the weight up and pulled up with the momentum from your legs.

  • way too much knee bend not trying to talk shit

  • @PraeludiumUndFuge Would love to see your technique.....Post up.....

  • Nah, you can't be an Internet warrior that way

  • i wish people who commented would actually post videos. - joe g

  • @TheJustNsane same thing. Westside template and rules but I like to keep just 2-3 supplemental exercises that I know work and then run them in waves of 8's, 5's, 3's until they stop giving me results, then I switch and do the same thing. As far as accessory movements like lats, upper back, shoulders, etc. I just train those almost body builder like with a high volume looking for more size.

  • I think it was bit too high but 500lbs is 500lbs!

  • @tempac91 what was a bit too high? that good morning was deep as shit.

  • @ultramegasweet How deep was it? Did you hit parallel? Was that a bent-knee good morning? If so, I thought you were meant to hit parallel.

  • @tempac91 its not a squat were depth is the issue. Any lower and my back would've started to round over putting myself at risk of injury.

  • @ultramegasweet I guess you go as low as your hamstring flexibility allows, with parallel being the limit.

  • @TheJustNsane thats why i stop bothering trying to defend my lifts. lol, i used to zercher squat but i wasn't getting much out of them. I stopped because they are brutal on the body if im not going to get any results. Romanian Deads has been a big help in pushing up my deadlift though

  • there is nothing wrong with doing heavy good mornings my best is 620x1 and 600x5

  • @syourist those are some pretty sick nasty goodmornings...where's your deadlift at in relation? keep it up

  • @ultramegasweet my best pull is 660 in the gym and 655 in competition.

  • @syourist that's pretty nasty, i've dropped weight and added more reps recently w/ GMs and have a comp best of 620. keep up the strong lifting

  • @ultramegasweet Thank you, but its been driving me crazy I have been stuck at the 640-660 range for a while. I got 675 to my knees but I have hit a wall. Gotta change somethings around

  • @ultramegasweet Thank you, but its been driving me crazy I have been stuck at the 640-660 range for a while. I got 675 to my knees but I have hit a wall. Gotta change somethings around

  • Thats a squat...

  • @VegarGjerdrum regardless of the knee bend, which i intended so as to mimick my dead, the bar was still in front of the knee's, that's a goodmorning

  • I never lift with a belt so I wouldn't know and I can't figure it out but...

Why would you wear a belt when training the erectors ???

  • @snakeinthegrass20 it's training more than the erectors, and i wear it to learn to push my abs out creating a more stable base

  • Impressive dude, but why would you go so heavy on such a lift? For your own sake, please don't do that EVER again.

  • i was thinking the EXACT same thing ydlafams was thinking, i cant do it but not so sure i would want to do it.

  • @ydlafams you obviously, with that statement, prove your weak. i'll never listen to anything you write

  • @ultramegasweet - The only thing that's been obvious is that with your statementS, you've shown great ignorance and no understanding of biomechanics/human physiology. Try doing seated good mornings with this weight instead, that way you're actually working your back directly, and not as a synergist to your hams (when you're standing). You shouldn't listen to anything I write since you can't hear the written word. However, you can definitely pay attention and learn.

  • @ydlafams as i said, i refuse to listen, i want to work my hams and glutes as well, thats why i'm doing it. for total posterior chain development. im doing what suits my needs
