  • Está tocado na perfeição. Perfeitamente o original do Selling England!. Bravo!!!!!

  • Excelente

  • PERFECT!!!

  • @FreniFranello Thank you!!

  • Mother of God

    Complimenti!!

  • @drsMimi Grazie, molto gentile!!!

¡Gracias!

    Alessandro

  • Bravo.

  • @313fabio Grazie!

  • That was perfect man!

  • @AdmiralQuality Thank you very much!! But I know that is not yet perfect... Someone wrote this comment, and he is right: "Really very good....but not perfect. There´s a mistake in the melody every time you are in the C chord. You should play the notes E-C-G-E, instead of E-C-G-C.....

And some segments are too forte. I guess all the intro is more relaxed.

Anyway, great!! and thank you very much for sharing."

  • Thank you very much!!!

  • Simply spot on, mood , spacing and flow ...really enjoyed that evocative intro. :-)

  • This is a great version. So many people lose control when playing Genesis/Banks pieces but you maintain the feel which is so important. I believe Tony himself didn't risk playing this intro live again after one disastrous occasion. Also your description of learning the piece bit by bit slowly is spot on and invaluable. All good stuff. Thanks.

  • @tindlerun Thank you so much for this comment, I really appreciate!

  • @tindlerun hi what kind of disaster was that ? I always thought Banks as one of keyboard god,so even a god can make a mistake...

  • @kyokushinfighter78 I have never seen the footage, but the story goes that when touring, Tony would play the intro to the song on a CP-70 or RMI I think, with less of a range than a grand piano. At one point he was supposed to jump down an octave but at one show he just kept going up and up, off of the end of the board. In other shows the intro was apparently less than stellar, so they just decided not to do it live anymore.

  • Bravo!

    Very difficult to play!

  • @adrianh63 Thank you very much!

  • How long did it take you to learn this? Because I have been practicing for ages...and still can't do it as well as you. xD

  • @Olav321 Cut in in little pieces, very little, for each hand. Than repeat, many many times. Then put the pieces togheter, play slow at the beginning, then little faster, little faster... And repeat... A lot of patience, of course, but this music is not impossible. Thank you for your comment! And let me know!

  • great job!

  • @lyticityl Thank you!!

  • Nice! Well done

  • @smit70NJ Thanks!

  • bravissimo! davvero ottima esecuzione....cazzarola, io ci sto diventando matto da qualche giorno....MALEDETTO TONY BANKS! :D

  • @acobaco Grazie mille!

  • Davvero complimenti. ottima esecuzione

Questa musica è impossibile impararla ad orecchio. Necessina la partitura che sto cercando disperatamente. Tu puoi a aiutarmi?

  • bravo!

  • @cicciodinonnapapera5 Grazie mille!!

  • You have something I will never have..... the ability to even come close to what Tony does on the keyboards. It's just my opinion, but you lack a little bit of the 'feel' of what Tony can do. But if I could do anything close to what you do? Happy camper. You aren't Tony but you are damned good. I wish I could feel what you must feel. You be Irie, mon. Cool runnings.

  • @3daypriest Thank you so much...

  • You studied it for 2 weeks and played it for a month. But how long have you been playing the keyboards. Never heard about Tony making mistakes, but the piano thing makes some sense. I can't really say that the first time I saw them in about '77 that they played The Firth. I do know he had keyboards all wrapped around him. Once again, how long have you been playing. A friend of mine works at Carnegie Hall in New York.

  • @3daypriest I play piano since I was three:) But for many years I played one day in a month! I begun to play keyboards in 1985, when I entered the band Mad Crayon (you can see on my channel). Only in 2009 I bought a keyboard for my home, and I started to play piano seriously, every day. So I learned some Genesis tunes I put on YT.

  • @3daypriest I found this in an article on wikipedia:

"Banks' piano introduction has not been included in a performance since 1974, in a Drury Lane Theatre concert, when Banks misplayed and Phil Collins covered by starting the song from after the intro."

  • Yep, I live in Japan. Flew from Japan to Detroit to see Genesis on their last tour. Like I said, you are scary good. I put this on my favorites. I have no idea how you and Tony can do such a thing. How long have you been playing?

  • @3daypriest The "Turn it on again" tour? I've seen them live in my city, Rome, in 2007: they ended here their reunion tour, and it was fantastic! I know that Tony didn't play all firth intro live in the past: maybe because in those years they hadn't a real piano on the stage. But someone says that was because the part was too difficoult to play on stage, and Tony always made mistakes. I don't read the music, I play what I ear. I've studied firth for 2 weeks and played it for a month. Thank you!!

  • i know what i like..

  • @KillingLies1 Thanks!!

  • amazing! i'd like to hear it on a real grand piano. But i'm asking too much!!!! congratulations, you are a great player (pretty close to perfection)

  • @usomedicinal I don't have a real piano:( But thank you very much!!

  • You are scary good. I think that Tony is able to put a little more emotion, for lack of a better word, into the score but I would give almost anything to be able to do what you just did. You made my day. Thanks.

  • @3daypriest Oh thank you very much, domo arigatou gozaimasu! You're from Japan... isn't it?:)

  • wow, so good it sounds just like the original! brilliant work

  • @xisumavoid Thank you so much!!

  • Really very good....but not perfect. There´s a mistake in the melody every time you are in the C chord. You should play the notes E-C-G-E, instead of E-C-G-C.....

And some segments are too forte. I guess all the intro is more relaxed.

Anyway, great!! and thank you very much for sharing.

  • @11tube11 Oh, you're right!! I've always mistake that passage!! Great, thank you! PS. I put "perfect" only to catch the attention, but I perfectly know that this execution is far away from perfection:)

  • .........WOW. My goal is to be able to play this bit. I have such a long way to go. LOL! Saving this one....wish Tony would write more piano music.

  • @kamwrites Thank you kamwrites! The trick is to study every little part of this music and repeat it hundred of times...

  • As far as I know, you're the only one who plays the correct chord on left hand at 0:34. Beauty is always hidden into details...

  • @ptassotti Grazie Paolo, molto gentile nonché attento ascoltatore! Grazie ancora!

  • Flawless accuracy, wobbly stand and all :)

    Well done!

  • Awsome :)

anyone know what grade this piece is? thanks

  • My dad used to play this every time he happened upon a keyboard or piano - almost as if to test that particular instrument's ability to handle the song. He has now passed away, but watching you play this brought these memories rushing back, and I thank you for that. Also, he was a big computer/gaming nerd, so it almost seems like this video is a tribute to him. Thank you for sharing your talent.

  • @iamaglassoftea Thank YOU for these beautiful words. I'm glad the video has made you remember your father. If he played and loved this music, then the video is also dedicated to him. Thanks again from the heart. Best wishes,

    Alessandro

  • that about the best ive seen it..unless payed by tony banks, excellent job

  • Waaaaaaaaaaaahoooooooouuuuuuuuuu ! Amazing ! :D

  • Is this Genesis or executed perfectly

  • @Kruegerisgod Thank you very much!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Hey dude. Don't listen to this "flauwegetit" or whatever is his nick. Who cares about that stuff he is talking about. You did a goodjob and after I watch the video I came to realize that the video title doesn't sound pretentious at all

  • @valterjardineiro Thank you! Oh anyway, I think anyone can say all he wants. Any comment is wellcome. About the title, I choose that "perfect execution" only to try to catch attention, because there are so many firth players in youtube! And many of them really don't know how to play this piece well...:)

  • That was excellent and I love your ending!

  • @JuanGarbanzoBean Thank you Juan!!

  • * If you use the time links inside the video youtube gives, you are 1 second off, missing the actuall detail I was talking about, because it apparently takes youtube 1 second to produce the sound of the clip, so by the time you hear anything it reads: 0:56 allready. Maybe youtube should considder that

  • You are welcome. I think in my second hearing I may have found a flaw ! in 0:37 something seems a bit off somehow, as if a fraction is being skipped. Also in 0:54 I believe the original has an added note, making it sound like it's 'tumbling' down, so to speak, collapsing on itself, but perhaps that note is an improvisation of the original artist? Still the best job of all the covers tho !!!

  • @flauwegeit Wow, you are an excellent listener! I'm not sure I've understood what you mean, but if you want you can listen and watch a second video of Firth that I've made one year after the first, that has a better audio. Thanks again for writing!!! (I wanted to put the link but maybe is impossible... Then, just go on my channel and search the video called "Firth of Fifth Piano Extracts")

  • @stokkernk

It sounds just fine to me.

  • @5jerry1 Grazieee!!! Thanks!!!!

  • totally impressive

  • @flauwegeit T H A N K S!!!!!

  • Good! How much practice-time (approx.) did it take you to get this result?

  • @Evelyn0003 Oh, well... I've to admit that I worked a lot to change scale, because I played this piece, very approximatly, in C major. I've played for years in a wrong way, so I have to rebuild from scratch and then learn the right arrangement in the right scale. It took almost a month. And I have to play at least once a day, to continue to play it well:)

  • @stokkernk Oh yes, I know that, it did happen to me when learning one song. The band was playing it live in B but the record was in C major, I had to change it. But you know, for that kind of result, one month is not a lot!!! I'm planning on learning it.

You did a pretty good job!

  • absolutely beautiful!! Lovin it..

    K

  • @in2gadgets Oh, thank you very much! Grazie!!

  • outstanding

  • @KeyserSoseRulz Thank you!!!!

  • great song, great cover, i mean PERFECT COVER, great title "PERFECT EXECUTION" watch my version too :)

  • @Karabiner07 Just watched! Great version too!! Thank you:)

  • Yep. Thats was perfect.

(except for the Left hand glitch at :39) This was intended to prove how intently I was watching.

Notes, Tempo, Dynamics, ALL Spot On!!!

MORE PLEASE! You are very appreciated!

  • @cjheaford

Wow!! You are very very kind!:) Thank you so much!

  • YES The Path is clear ! Perfect, but if you're a good pianist, this intro is not difficult for you isn't it ? :-) Please play the lamb with me !

  • @uptocom Thank you!! It' would be great to play The Lamb! But I think i need a lot of time to understand how to play the keyboard parts... I don't read music... You play piano too?

  • @stokkernk hi - I try to understand playing genesis many songs from "The Knife" to "The Lamb" since many years... It's ok now for me to play genesis songs because it's a very well structured music conception and so beautiful melodies. The Lamb piano intro is amazing. I don't read music also, the only way to find how to play it is watching again and again tony bank's live film on youtube ! Once you have understand the cross-hand technic you can find all the chords and that's it !

  • @uptocom Oh, I'll try soon to do it, for sure. I love The Lamb too, all the song, not only the intro part. I think Banks's parts are really outstanding!

  • Lovely , lovely, lovely!

  • @taynuilt1 Oh, too kind! Tanks:)

  • P E R F E C T !!!

  • @rushyeskansas Thank you very much!!

  • finally!! someone gets the 0:53 bit spot on. ...at least it sounds it, anyway ;)

  • @Salfordbluemoon Oh, it's true: maybe my solution is not the original one, but it sounds like...:) Thank you!

  • Thank you Jenny!! I agree with your dad, this is one of my favourite songs too! You play piano? post some vids!! And let me know if you need some help, when you decide to learn Firth:) Bye

  • wow thats amazing!! well done!! my dad wants me to learn this cuz its his fave song :) Xx

  • This is my final goal. Playing this song!

  • @kip4tok The secret is study each passage very carefully, and with a lot of patience:) It's not impossible!!

  • @Davicin030 MUCHAS GRACIAS!!!

  • Amazing! I've been trying to play this for ages, and, remembering that I'm not that good a piano-player, failing totally. Hats off to you Sir, sadly the sound isn't the best.

  • Very well done. BRAVO!!!

  • @fkfernie Thank you! Grazie mille!

  • there is a jerk on all channels

  • @tinghuta oh yeaaa:)

  • tutorial/sheet music PLEASE

  • @judomasta404 Would be great but I've no timee!! Sorry!! But maybe one day:)

  • @judomasta404

    agreed.....

  • @quotal Great Tony of old times!:) Thank you very much quotal!!

Grazie tante!!!

  • Fantastic!! I tend to hurry the pace a bit, but you have great control!! Brilliant. Well done!

  • @alwoodcock1 Thank you very very much!!

  • @Keririn94 io l'ho fatta tutta a orecchio:) Dimmi il punto preciso (minuti secondi) così capisco bene a quali accordi ti riferisci e ti dico.

  • Comment removed

  • Wonderful

  • nailed

  • Bravo!!!!!!

  • @diesis80 Grazie ancora:)

  • magnificent

  • @vulpecula999 Oh, thank you very very much!!!

  • You rock!!!Do you mind if I ask how long you have been playing? FOF intro is not easy!

  • That is hands down the best FOF intro cover I have ever heard... impeccable timing... What is your keyboard?

  • @leads4agents Thank you very much leads4agents!! The keyboard in the video is the very affordable Yamaha NP30 grand. The sound it's pretty good, I think:)

  • Wow sounds like the actual version on the album.

  • @DBZGTBGM1991 That was just my goal!:) Thank you!!!

  • puts mine to shame, it seems. boo, hiss!

    (and also, great job!)

  • @hegelec Thank you again Christian! I've just seen you video of Cage-Firth, and it's very impressive! I'll post a comment there:)

  • e l'intro piu bello di sempre, in questo caso suonato alla perfezione....very very good

  • Very nice!

  • superb

  • @xLEEDSxUNITEDxSHEPx Oh, thank you very very much!!:)

  • total respect to anyone who can play that intro it looks very complex

looking forward to seeing more vids from you

  • @centralscrutinizer9 The interesting thing about Firth of Fifth is that I always thought exactly what you have said: "respect for those who can play that intro! I'll never do!" But with patience and exercise anyone that play some piano can do. Really. It needs time and time, but if you know the notes that Tony used for that, it's only a time-exercise question.

  • Very good job!

    Keep uploading.

  • Oh, thank you very much!:) I have a new video and tomorrow I'll try to upload: For absent friends, by Genesis, hope you enjoy:)

  • Absolutely brilliant job - well done!!

And how much of a genius must Tony Banks be to have come up with all that in the first place! Talking of which, I could be wrong but I think at some time or other I heard him say that the hardest part he ever had to play was Lamb Lies Down. Just be curious to know if you can play that.

anyway, well done again - outstanding.

  • @panicatac

Thank you!! Well, about The Lamb, I think one day I will try to play that beautiful piano creation but not now. I learn the music only by listening or seeing others play (on youtube for example) and I'll try with the Lamb only when I'll find out a good video to learn the correct way to put the hands on the keyboard:) Thank you again!

  • You're welcome. And hope to see your Lamb Lies Down some time in the future.

  • Excellent job!

  • Really a perfect execution. Why not finish the song?

  • Thank you! Oh, well, actually I play the entire song, but the problem, when you have to take a video, is that you need a lot of time, because is impossible to have a perfect execution at the first shot:) When I'll have enought time I'll post Robbery, Assault and Battery, One for the Vine, and of course Firth. Thank you again!

  • Absolutely spot on ! well done
