  • good song, but I still don't know why we fight :-(

  • this song reminds me of the Hunger Games

  • Anders.

  • Am I the only one who always link a song to an especific person, situation, time or even a view?

  • @Jauckor You must be espanish.

  • Makes me think of the speech that Roran gave in the Eldest of the inheritance book cycle.

  • @TourettesFTW Not nearly as plain as Radical Face's "Winter is Coming" being associated with Ned Stark... But I can certainly see what you mean.

... Always fun to associate folk/rock songs with fantasy novels, eh?

  • why do they fight?

  • Ron Paul 2012!

  • @RoNfOrThEwIn :O it does me too!!!

  • Such a fun song to learn on the acoustic..and the bass!!!

  • 4:50 and past... Is that part of the song???

  • @DontPronounceThis I was wondering that too. If it's a different song, I'd be interested to know where it came from.

  • Is that odd part at the end suppost to be there?

  • @DontPronounceThis I'm pretty sure that's just a little bonus - as far as I can tell, its on every version of the song - iTunes and a physical CD included.

  • This song. THIS FUCKING SONG.

  • I want this video on my D612 unit.

  • Thumbs up if Madden 2010 brought you here :D

  • The official video of this song made me cry.

I really love this song and I run to it :)

  • This makes me think of the Hunger Games!!

  • I tried to flag for "So Amazing It Blows All Other Music Into Deep Space" but that, apparently, is not an option.

  • The only way this band could be better would be if Chuck Norris himself was in it.

  • @videomaekrdude Lame. Chuck Norris jokes have been around since the 90's..... im guessing you're younger than 17?

  • I love this song.

  • This video went viral on Cuba

  • I feel like 3:46 is the climax of the album.

  • every time is says "this is why we fight", i think of whats worth fighting for in my life

  • @jackieownzyou How deep. I see you picked up on the subtle nuances of the lyrics.

  • this one goes in my next film, promise...

  • celebrating december by only listening to the decemberists!

  • @sproiygen YAR! Regreting that I didn't do that. ): Now I have to wait all year. );

  • Not really my style if music, but I find it amusing.

  • I have listened to this song about 5 times in the past hour.

  • @sweetycake808 That still leaves thirty-two and a half minutes!

  • Love the new album..love the decemberist...wish they would come to Tennessee!!

  • Its ok. I like the beginning and ohh i think i just caught the good part never mind i like it.

  • i listened one time this song on the radio, i searched for the name of the song from the lyrics i heard and i come here every now and then and i listen to it.....:P so beautiful......

  • 3333333

  • i went and saw them live, and nobody was moving, so they made everyone sway during an extended version of the mariners revenge, it actually felt as if you were on a rocking boat during a storm. it was amazing!

  • @RainboRainicorn I saw them at a sold out show in San diego at the House of Blues, it was a total "lap buster" concert, they played great yet still everyone stood there with zero enthusiasm. They were very stagnant while playing....BORING.

  • @HurricaneCam8 actually I totally know what you mean about people not moving. The reason for that has nothing to do with the band's level of awesomeness, though. It's because the majority of the band's fans are hipsters. And, as a general rule, hipsters do not move or dance or do anything at concerts except smoke and listen. They're so lame.

  • @RainboRainicorn Same problem with Death Cab for Cutie concerts (still go, they're awesome). But just ignore the hipsters and dance anyway (you might want to bring friends though, it makes it a little less awkward)!

  • Listen to RCHP - Stadium Arcadium minute 2:46 . It is SO similar!

  • @despuesdelanada I think you meant RHCP, cuz im not sure if the Red Chilie Hot Peppers exist...but yeah i know what youre talking about! its like the same!

  • This reminds me of the Lunar Republic...

  • @headshotsalot 0-0 a fellow brony or pegasister? /)^3^(\

  • @RainboRainicorn Brony. Knight-Commander Blizzard of the New Lunar Republic, at your service!

  • @headshotsalot I think I'm in love! <3

  • Zomg...stop with the politics...I just want the damn red jacket...

  • warrior cats....thats what i think of when i hear this song XD -is reading the forgotten warrior-

  • When we die, we will die.

  • brought me here, brought me here.

  • The December Revolt of 1825 brought me here.

  • Google Chrome brought me here.

  • @LOVE2TROLL You made many excellent points, but I disagree with you that small gov. allows businesses to take over. Look at the American Government today - Big gov. And its interests lie with the lobbyists, the bankers, the corporations. It's when a government gets too big, that its interests change from 'for the people' to 'for myself and big business' (and in the case of the U.S, strangely, 'for Israel'). But that's a seperate issue altogether.

  • shut da fuck up listen to the music stop with all that bullshit ...... yaaaaahhhhh

  • a radio which i am listlening while i was driving brought me here :)

  • the novemberists

  • @TheAlexandros99 the septemberists

  • This song makes me happy when I'm sad.

  • @USsocomDeltaForce141 exactly what i was thinking. <3

  • i heard this on the raido and couldnt help but hear it again..........and again.........and again lol. I luv it

  • I always find The Decemberists to be very soothing.

  • The Decemberists brought me here.

  • thumbs up if the internet brought you here (HA!)

  • DP Show always plays this

  • @morgantown1 When i first heard Seaton play this, I thought it was R.E.M.

  • i listen to good music on my own. i don't need someone else to bring me to it. stop jumping on the bandwagon everyone.

  • @ryan12381793

Burdge-bug is a popular artist on deviantart. However, she isn't very well known to anyone except mostly the community on deviantart. If you were really a fan of the Decemberists and/or this song, you'd be happy that they were getting popularity. Brigid made an entire picture based on this song, and promoted it.

Sometimes, to hear about something, you've got to hear about it from somebody else. I doubt every discovery of anything you've ever heard you found on your own.

  • @HarukaHatter i agree with that, and the fact that more people are starting to listen to non-crappy music makes me think there is still hope for society. My point is just to take some pride in your originality. Music is a very personalized art form, and everyone has their own tastes. Its just not the same if you start listening to a band because someone else does, but if you listen because you like it then its a beautiful thing

  • @ryan12381793 I don't think that you can say that your experience with the Decemberists has any more originality than anyone else's. Unless you were born with the knowledge of this band already in your head then you heard about them from someone else and started listening to them. It wasn't necessarily just because they listen to them that you do, it's that you had to be introduced to them by someone.

  • love this!

  • lol dont feed the trolls :D hahaha

  • Guys relax enjoy the music.

  • His name is "Love2Troll." I feel stupid even pointing this out to everyone arguing right now. Enjoy the music?

  • @SaviorThree I am, thank you kindly good sir. Also, my first thoughts when I saw that.

  • My old music teacher was listening to this during lunch break loud on the speakers on spotify...

i was down in the art department and heard it through the walls

the speed at which i RAN to get the name of this song

i dont regret causing myself that mini asthma attack at all;p

    this song is the besstttt

  • dis suggs!

  • is the last part part of the song?

  • if it comes to the option of death or my freedom i will gladly welcome deaths cold embrace.......if i am ever in the hands of a tyrant i will rise up against him and either kill him or die a free man.....if i ever see a man woman or child in chains i will break those chains and set them free.......rebel, liberator,savior,hero......call me whatever you wish but never slave nor servent. i will die with my arms unbound

  • @darkwattie227 nope.

  • @L0VE2TROLL im confused on what the hell that means.......nope.....on what part of my comment? just nope for the whole fucking thing? im gonna say yep

  • @darkwattie227 Nope, you say that now, but when the hammer falls you're going to be doing everything you can not to be under it. Including giving up some personal freedom.

  • @L0VE2TROLL thats were your wrong man, when the hammer falls im either going to rise against it or wonder to find a place with freedom, or live in solitude and try to find others to help.....all in all no freedom will be given from me

  • @darkwattie227 whatever Im down to give up my right to vote to keep a stable government. I'm down to give up my right to bear arms so society can be safer. I'm down to give up having the right to have s car so carbon emissions can be lowered

  • @L0VE2TROLL those rights were never given in the first place rather the rights to vote.......the car is still owned by our gov and by the legal system and they can come by and get it whenever

  • @darkwattie227 ...your car can only be taken when you don't own it. Like when you fall behind on your payments. A radical government could pass a law making private owned transportation, making it that only public transportation can be used. (buses, trains, or subway). Right to bear arms is the second amendment to the constitution.

  • @L0VE2TROLL i can be taken when ever the leaders or your goverment or your religion say so......only will it be taken when you deciede....hey am i gonna let these pussies take my car?

  • @L0VE2TROLL Wow...that is the most ignorant statement I have ever read. The fact that we have a right to vote is only reason we have any sort stable government. You obviously have no appreciation for freedom.

  • @congodog235 To be completely honest I would rather a dictatorship over the clusterfuck of a government we have now. The voting keeps one party form fulfilling it's goals. No progress is made in any appreciable way. Thus not a stable government when senate majority changes every two to four years.

  • @L0VE2TROLL I am going to chose to to not take anything you post seriously since I am assuming you are a 13 year old 7th grader by your username. But I will say this, you do realize that we have one of the best governments ever created right? Yes we have problems but ours pail in comparison to the problems most countries have. The things that come along with a dictatorship are genocide and mass poverty. Read 1984...or hell a history book before you run your mouth on youtube.

  • @congodog235

And the things that come with Democracy is Corruption and massive amounts of crime. No governing is perfect but they will have to do until we hit the singularity and let AI do everything

  • @Skinnyoompalumpa Like I said in my other comment our government has problems. There are A LOT of things wrong with our government. We are a nation run by the people and people by their nature have faults.

  • @congodog235 English Monarchy was one of the greatest empires in the world. Shit gets done when there is only an executive branch.

  • @L0VE2TROLL Not to get involved, but I do tend to agree. A strong executive is great. The problem is when it goes down the slippery slope towards an unchecked dictatorship.

  • @L0VE2TROLL with one of the most oppressed peoples in the history of the world. There were rich and lavish nobles, and everyone else was dirt poor and under the iron fist of a person born to a certain family. You want to live like that, go to communist North Korea where things you've said in youtube would have you bound, gagged, and shot... and you can actually find videos of that happening on youtube.

  • @YesYouAreIgnorant One, english monarchy was nothing like what North Korea is today. Two, if you were a "skilled" worker, as in you took an apprenticeship for a trade such as being a smithy, then you generally enjoyed the benefits our middle class today enjoys. It wasn't as clean cut as the rich/poor. Are you an "Occupy" supporter? I'm just getting that vibe.

  • @L0VE2TROLL I don't support a dominating government, but I am absolutely not a OWS supporter. Despite what they say, they are screaming out for Socialism. I want a small government that is run by the people. The way our government is currently set up I consider bullying. They are grasping for more power every year and are obtaining it with entitlement programs that require people to rely on them to live.

  • @L0VE2TROLL Secondly, the English Monarchy was no picnic. It was absolutely brutal to live under the rule of the crown even when you had a good King. It didn't matter who you were, as long as it wasn't Nobility, you could still be tortured and killed just because someone didn't like you. There was no protection for the people, their lives were not in their own hands whether they were a skilled craftsman, or even decent human beings. One person with all the power is very dangerous.

  • @YesYouAreIgnorant The english monarchy produced one of the biggest empires the world had ever seen, and produced the most powerful navy of its time, and it's not as if the the UK had ample resources to begin with like america. Keep basic civil liberties then, and get rid of congress and the house. Get rid of lobbyists, and we'll make some real progress, conservative or not.

  • @L0VE2TROLL A powerful country is secondary to freedom of its citizens. Having the three branches of government was a very good idea, but the problem is our government has decided to consider the Constitution a fluid document. Most politicians have barely glanced over it. So the original intention of our government has been tweaked, and therefore made it more powerful than intended. We need term limits for ALL politicians (4 years and DONE FOREVER) and to rework the Constituion BACK into govt

  • @YesYouAreIgnorant Not at all, presidency should be able to have unlimited terms if they're doing a good job, in any group you keep the leader if he's good, why force them to switch out even if they're doing a good job? A powerful government keeps a country stable and progressive, while small government lets business take over, which always has money as their number one priority

  • Comment removed

  • A small government lets businesses take over their business, where money is supposed to be the number one priority. Neither Big nor Small government has anything to do with the influence businesses can have on politicians, however.

  • @L0VE2TROLL then you have no appreciation for any kind of freedom.......dictators will do whatever the fuck they want to a gov.....becuse they can.....if youd rather have a tyrant than a clusterfuck of good men.....then no help to you.,,,,,,unfortunatly there is no clusterfuck of good men anymore.....but its much better than a man who was curropted by power........you dumb fuck your statments are that of slavery and of no honor nor courage

  • @darkwattie227 How about progress and stability? Nothing is getting done in this fucking country, the relationship between congress and the president has turned into fucking playground politics. If there was only an executive branch that would be preferable. You are a fucking guy who daydreams about kicking ass. "If it comes to the option of death or freedom I will gladly accept death's cold embrace" What a faggot!

  • @L0VE2TROLL im the faggot eh? kicking ass has nothing to do with it you know what i am eh!? you dont do ya?! no just as i dont know you and have nothing to do with you but ill fill you in a lil about who i am! i may be proud but i am no daydreamer im just saying it as it is! ide rather die than be seen in chains doing the bidding of another....what would you do in that situation? take their beatings? shovle their shit? well if so than thats ur decision.....not mine

  • @darkwattie227 You can tell from your words. It's all grandiose and seems to come straight out of a corny action movie. And no it's not shoveling shit, or taking beatings. It's giving up a few freedoms to make progress. If the U.S. got rid of their legislative branch laws would be passed much more easily and quickly, solutions to the debt problem would have been made, instead of this fucking deadlock.

  • @L0VE2TROLL well then your in a wrong time period there jack......i dont care about the market economic problems nor the big hatefuck of a gov we have now! im talking about the future when and if stability falls i will not let up my freedom to whomever has dictated the gov now....im just saying when the shit hits the fan i will not bow nor give up....im just putting it into my own Irish words......and trust me this will not happen today tomorrow hell nor 10 years.....im ready thats all, are you?

  • @L0VE2TROLL also to put it this what that was a quote dumbass........ever read conan eh? you should

  • @darkwattie227 Whatever. You sound like this girl I know who wouldn't shut up about how she liked S&M and pain. She then proceeded to cry two hours later over a headache.

  • @L0VE2TROLL yea whatever....i was stating my ideas and my statments your the one who just wont shut up about how you rather have a dictator that a so called repebublic.......nobody gives two god damns about your wants of the goverment nobody may want me talking about freedom but i put it as a statment not your idiotic ideals of freedom

  • @darkwattie227 U mad bro? Problem?

  • @L0VE2TROLL i should be askin you the same question slick

  • @darkwattie227 ...Are you a woman.

  • @L0VE2TROLL ......what the fuck kind of question is that.......no im not

  • @darkwattie227 Oh. See I had to make sure cause you're bitching like one. yo, I'm through with this. I've seen your type so many times, all bark no bite, talk the talk but no walk. Sure you'll die before you surrender your freedom. That's cool. Don't blame me if I think that you'd probably piss your pants someone says "get in the cage" when they have a gun to your head.

  • @L0VE2TROLL yea what ever you say man......i dont even know why the hell i keep typing....you know this whole thing started over a statment......fuckin sad man.......im not blaming you for your opinions no matter how stupid or no matter how smart or justified.......you may be right about one thing...the hammer will fall but your wrong about how many people are willing to stand up against it......im done

  • @L0VE2TROLL The entire Free State Project is about standing up to the government.

  • @L0VE2TROLL This might be a pretty immature or uneducated statement, but isn't that like the embodiment of communism??

  • @supsupsupyomama No..communism is an economic policy, where everything is subsidized by the government, where the government owns all property, and pay is distributed by your ability and needs.

  • At first I was, I don't get it. And then something clicked and I was like, THIS IS AMAZING.

  • 28 pple got their ass kicked

  • Beautifully written? Well done Colin!

  • What I get from this song is simple. We fight to be free, and we will fight to be unbound in what ever respect you want to take that.

  • is the end part part of the song?

  • My dog went running through the field and he got fox burs in his toes, I had to pick them out....

  • what the fuck is burdge-bug?

  • @HopeyProductions A popular deviantart artist who linked to this song.

  • Sound very english for some reason :p

  • Whats the song after this called?

  • tuning in from warrington, pennsylvania.

  • 25 people are huge fans of Katy Perry.

  • @JeniusRetard ...what's wrong with liking katy perry? she makes good music and so do the decemberists

  • So come to me, come to me now, lay your arms around me... beautiful

  • how the fuck can you dislike this?

  • Why are there no comments about the somewhat "hidden track?" i cant find the lyrics ANYWHERE and i know im not the only one who noticed it. does anyone know where to find the lyrics, what its called, anything?

  • I'm ready for them. If I am the only English Lion left I'll stand and fight for what little is left of my people, my land, and my beautiful heritage.

  • Anyone here fought for something they actually believed in... enemy lines will see my cavalry charges broken, my archers arrowless, my infantry with broken swords; but we will never break our lines, bow our heads, or allow our arms to be bound. We will die with arms in hand, or you will see our resolve, and leave your own lines to embrace us.

  • @ImpmanPDX

    Who do you fight?

The real enemy is within us.

  • Anyone here fought for something they actually believed in... enemy lines will see my cavalry charges broken, my archers arrowless, my infantry with broken swords, but we will never break our lines, bow our heads, or allow our arms to be bound. We will die with arms in hand, or you will see our resolve, and leave your own lines to embrace us.

  • The title of this mid-tempo rocker suggests a critique of American policy abroad, however frontman Colin Meloy told Spin magazine that it isn't specifically about the War in Iraq. "In some ways, it's political but I have not attributed it to anything," he said. "I think of it more as a song for somebody who's up against great odds, whether political or social."

  • I can't get over how great this band is!

  • Come hell.

    XDYeah!!

  • The true song start at 4:38

  • Great song, it leaves you thinking and not a lot of songs can manage to do that.

  • I just like to say that I love reading though everyones thoughts on what the feel this song is about! Its awesome to see how everyone gets something different from one song.

  • I've never heard of this band before, but they really are a fresh breath of air for me since I was looking for something new to listen to. :)

  • @bellacullen4444 me too! <3

  • Burdge-bug brought me here. <3

  • @bellacullen4444 Same here :D

  • @bellacullen4444 haha mee too!

  • @bellacullen4444 me too, and i must say, i'm glad she did. :)

  • @bellacullen4444 No doubt seeing as she's on front page there's gonna be mills of us :D

  • @bellacullen4444 Best way to get you're music promoted, yea!
