  • forget the spider, did you see how hairy this beast of a mans hands and fingers are ?

  • This is awesome, we need more people like this good man respecting our helpful UK spiders.

  • Cool. Like these non aggressive spiders.

  • It´s a beutiful male - tegenaria atrica

  • In my aunties shed in Liverpool she showed me a spider and i`m not kidding but it was twice that size and I wouldn`t touch it for all the money in the world.

  • Please help me, I'm so scared :''''[ I saw two of these things in my house in the past 24 hours, and I'm absolutely terrified :'''[ how can I get rid of them safely, without going anywhere near it? <3

  • @doddleoddle : They will stay out of your way - they're just looking for sex (males move around in search of females). If you've seen two of them there are more- but they are working to keep your house free of flies, mites, and smaller, much more venomous spiders that really can harm you (and that you would *never* see until you're bitten). They cannot harm you, would rather hide than try to nip you, and will run in terror at your approach (you are huge and scary to them). =D

  • @WhiteHawkUK Thank you :'''D it's so ridiculous, I know :'D there are people like this ^ guy who can just pick him up! But I'm just so scared they're going to crawl up my arm or go on me and URGH, I hate it :'D I heard that they bite, is it true? <3

Thank you by the way :'D <3

  • @doddleoddle : The biggest ones might be capable of giving you a nip, but you'd practically have to force the poor little fellow into it- even then, their venom is not potent, and they do not waste it on us.

My father was bitten while pulling up floorboards once; it was like a wasp sting but very short lived. He swore the spider was grinning at him when he uncovered her; females have a wider body, shorter legs. He carefully shooed her away and watched where he stuck his hands thereafter. XD

  • @doddleoddle : Truth is that you really have nothing to worry about. Your average house spider will run, hide, roll-up or stand still if you come too near, and is concerned only with getting away from something that might eat or crush it while it's prowling for a mate. The rest of its time is spent safely tucked into a corner pocket of a thick web. When it comes to despatching other creepy crawlies, including wasps, flies, silverfish, mites, they are perfect bouncers, and eat 'em all. :)

  • Like a baws!

  • I don't understand how it's possible to be in within a mile of spiders and not be terrified !!

  • @TheFlumpmasterflex : They are fascinating and beautiful. I've never understood the extreme fear of spiders (here in the UK anyway, where giant house spiders kill other pests).

People run in terror from tiny things while bumbling up to dogs making strange noises, waving their arms about, and flashing their teeth, completely oblivious to the fact that dogs (wild or not) have astounding speed and power, and most can crush bones with their jaws.

I fear neither, but I respect their capacities. ;)

  • @WhiteHawkUK I consider the giant house spider and any spider in my home a pest. If anything, I can understand why people hate them here in the UK more as we really do not have any true or dangerous pest species! Some countries have dangerous spiders/insects that are warded off by common house spiders, we do not. And the size of the trigger makes no difference to a phobia sufferer - it is a psychological condition, one that cannot be rationally explained! :)

  • @xMegaWombat : We have a number of spiders that can give you a nasty bite (think; necrotic tissue and liver damage), as well as mosquitoes, wasps, flies, and numerous other little beasties that are REAL pests. House spiders eat them all.

Irrational fears are for irrational minds. Combating phobia is a matter of self-possession- it's not a disability, and those who treat it as such are weak. They'll be the first against the wall when the spider revolution comes! Viva Arachnida! Kill the humans!

  • Wow, you've restored my faith in humanity, that was utterly benevolent, I admire your respect for life.

  • As soon as I watch this I started looking everywhere in my house for these ugly bastards

  • do they bite and does it hurt

  • @LCPD9111 Yes they bite how else would they capture prey? They are harmless to humans.

  • @MetusModus

I meant do they bite humans

  • @LCPD9111 As I commented harmless to humans.

  • Voll süße Spinne ;)

  • If you want to keep these ugly bastards out of your house, make sure you have all your doors and windows weatherprooofed well, especially the one leading to the garage. Also make sure your drain traps have water in them (some unused tubs and sinks will dry out of water in the trap and these creepy crawlers can go down drain vents on your roof and into your house. Also, make sure you have self closing flaps on all vent fans. Some may be stuck open allowing the big ones to crawl on by.

  • @ZYRADIA probleme??????

  • @Ladyjuniorgaga ... Sorry, I don't speak Lady Gaga. Now go back into your EGG and keep your PAWS to yourself.

  • last time i seen one of these i jumped out of my sofa and ran out of the room . then killed the little bastard with lynx and a lighter

  • they do get quite big and creepily enough that isn't the biggest i've seen, i quite like spiders but me dog always tries to eat them lol

  • I had one of these in my bed the other day. I turned over and found this about 2inches from my face! Luckily I had my TV remote next to me and squashed the git. Why is it around Sep, Oct these huge house spiders always appear in my flat?

  • @GBRIVORBIGUN They are drawn to heat, so when it gets cold outside they run to your home to keep warm.

  • @GBRIVORBIGUN ... Don't listen to @goldfish09 , he doesn't know anything.

September and October are spider mating months. This type of spider leaves its floor web and searches for a mate. You can see em crawling all over the inside of a house and outside too.

  • Jesus I just found one of these in my room, I swear to god 4 times as latge as yours. Forgive my whimpy/barbaric nature but I sucked it up my vaccume. I felt like a Ghostbuster.

  • dude, you have no idea if that is a Hobo/Brown recluse or a house spider. They are impossible to tell apart without a microscope. Why would you want to hold one? Not a good choice.

  • @djtommybravo oh yes i have got a idea,, luckly for us we dont get hobo/Brown or recluse spiders in great britton,, that is a common house spider.

Yes they do bite, but there fangs are not long or strong anough to penatrate human skin?.

  • @TheCanalCarpMan PHEW, I have one in my bedroom, my bed is a matress on the floor , I still want to kill it as I dont want it to wake me up crawling on me in the night where i will suddenly jump up and panic, which is uncontrollable. So Im going to kill it. I gave it a chance a few weeks ago to leave my room by itself but I see it crawling on my bed I decide to kill it.

  • @TheCanalCarpMan

That looks more like Tegenaria Duellica, the Giant House Spider, a harmless and vaguely sociable arachnid that's not averse to living in curtains or on top of shelves.

True, we don't get Hobo Spiders or Brown Recluse spiders in the UK, but as for whether or how T. Duellica bites, I don't think any studies have been undertaken. Your study on the spider's behaviour sounds like it's based on the Daddy Longlegs myth to me.

    Still, nice creature :-).

  • @TheCanalCarpMan i am petrified of them so i admire anyone who can get so close.... the worstthing is im a gardener and builder so i see them all the time then freak out lol

  • @TheCanalCarpMan Duellica can bite if they're big enough, but even then, it's not very painful and not harmful. I've only been bitten by them once, and I handle them a lot.

@djtommybravo they're not that identical, brown recluses don't get nearly this big and are quite a different shape with shorter, thicker legs. If you've lived with these all the time (as pretty much everyone in Britain does, whether they like it or not) you get to know exactly how they look.

  • @TheCanalCarpMan I should point out that the 'hobo' is a common field spider from Europe (and UK), but that our giant house spiders here (similar in appearance and size) keep them out of our homes and are largely absent in the US. The spider in your video CAN bite you, and it's a painful but otherwise pretty harmless nip. The difference between them is that the hobo would have attacked and bitten you without hesitation- that one just wants to find a female, and you're cock-blocking him! XD

  • @TheCanalCarpMan They do have fangs big enough to penetrate your skin, and have an agitoxin close to that of a bee sting. How do i know? i got bit on the ass with one, left its fang in my butt. Just be careful not to trap it or it will bite. It got caught in a pair of slacks that i fished back out the washing basket

  • @djtommybravo and either way, its pretty damn easy to tell if its a recluse...with or without a microscope.

  • @djtommybravo In Britain we don't have the Brown Recluse. The canalcarpman has a great specimen of a Tegenaria Duellica there. In the UK we do have the Tegenaria Agrestis (Called the Hobo in the States). It is reported to have bitten people across the pond. I always think we should handle spiders gently whatever. The Hobo Spider (Tegenaria Agrestis) has NEVER been reported as biting a UK resident.

  • @djtommybravo Never! Loxosceles reclusa has a different body structure and colouring, alos the classic violin is not present here, also Loxosceles reclusa walks closer to ther ground and has 2 eyes less than our friendly TEGENARIA DUELLICA we have over here.

  • @MetusModus The University of Washington released a study that states it's impossible to tell the difference without a microscope and one of the biggest urban myths is the violin. you may be right on the eye count though.

  • @djtommybravo Well the Univeristy of Washington really have to buck up theirs ideas, they are wasting money. No surprises there.

  • @djtommybravo A hobo spider does NOT get as big as a giant house spider.

  • @djtommybravo hobo spiders are smaller no more than 0.59 inches while tegenaria duellica can be 4 inches tall.

no risk here, it is a giant house spider.

  • great footage, great spider! :-)

  • @spiler30 thankyou.

  • it looks like a female

  • This is not a funnel web spide, i think its just a common house spider, known as wolf spiders, i get them all teh time in my bedroom after being on holiday and coming back, but my mate found one and thought it was a flase widdow and starting playing wiht it, and he must of agrivated it and it bit him!! but its a nice video, nice to see another spider lover like me!! ill upload one of a false widdow when i next find one! theres a few in my house:(. great video though:)

  • omg thats massive

  • bloody hell thate a big spider

  • i hate spiders

  • i wouldn,t like him or her to bite me, not with them fangs, andyou put it in your hands are you mad?

  • 0:34 look at the size of its fangs

  • That is one big spider, my wife would go crazy if i brought that in to the house

  • God dam that is one big house spider,, and how nice to put him back where you found him.

  • thankyou

  • that was nice to see you let him go,, most people would of killed it. :)

  • no i dont kill spiders i like them.

  • No way would i let it run up my arm, god dam.

  • i know what was he thinking i would run a mile,lol

  • i love the bit were he starts to clean his leg lol

  • good footage!

  • Thankyou.

  • Thats not a funnel web spider? thats the common 'Giant House Spider' or in other words Tegenaria duellica. Look it up on google

Wouldn't touch it so much though, some are known to pass on impetigo

  • Wouldnt want to wake up with that in my bivvie
