I agree with Gene Cernan who said that we can certainly afford the one penny on the dollar to return to the Moon. Right now NASA is getting about 1/2 cent while interest on the debt is getting about 30 cents on the dollar. We must save Constellation!
I agree with Dr. Griffith. Instead of spending 10B for Michelle Obama's Child abesity program, keep on funding this NASA program. Michelle's 10B is more than 53% of the whole NASA 2011 budget (18.7B). It is the government that needs most to go on diet and start rigorous exercise to address its obesity. Do not cut the nerve like NASA. Put down your scapel from your unsteady hand and start your exercise and diet. Obama's scapel is about to cut one of our nerves. Don't play doctor on our country.
According to Michio Kaku this decision is more than just cutting a nerve. It's like cutting off an arm or a leg. It destroys manned spaceflight for at least a generation.
Obama's decison to cut Constellation is bizzare. And now we have talk of out sourcing human spaceflight to private companies who do not have a track record of launch people and safely returning them to Earth. Meanwhile, thousands of jobs and years of work will be scrapped. And now they vaguely talk about flexible paths and R&D. Congress must act to remedy this situation.
Mr. Giffith.... WAY TO GO!! Dont let him get this program cancelled. I work out there and will be there for the launch sunday at 4:30 a.m. working to keep us #1 in space!! lots of people out here are talking about leaving the space industry all together. We are all worried that the cheapest rocket is really not the safest. We have so much already built and ready for the constellation program, I.E.. mobile launcher and the launch pad is done too, just to start over?? PLEASE HELP NASA
I'm with you guys, at least in spirit. I was up at 2 a.m. my time for both the scrub and the launch. Beautiful sight! My dad played a small role, building and delivering an optical component of Skylab to NASA back in the early 70's. I'm posting stuff all over the internet trying to help you guys however I can.

@ldksparda The way I look at it, the ones that are gonna get to the Moon and to other planets first will be the Japanese.
