@airofrce The GPS and flight planner in FSX function like an FMC. In flight planner you can build your approach and departure according to the charts and then see the route on your GPS while flying. Or you can just use VOR navigation.
Extremely helpful video! Thanks so much for posting.. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it. Good explanations and everything else!!:) are you a real pilot?
I'm just entering the world of instrument training xD thank god for GPS
It would benice if you do a video explaining the complete "Simbology' used in these Charts and AIDs ans Stars...For those who don't know a Cinch! The small Z are "change Over points" or a "Bent in an airway means a Changeover point where you switch Freq from one VOR to another VOR or ATC sector Freq, unless told by atc to do a Freq change, Are People aware that Jeppesen has tutorials as well as Navigraph has Simbols interpretation guides for FREE?
I got one question... How could I follow the intersections from the SIDs and STARs if I cant find these to put on my flightplan with the flightplan editor?
What about the waypoints between the SID and the STAR that aren't contained on either? How are the charts for those located, and what are they called?
There are no charts like the approach and departure charts for all of those other navaids. You just need to know where they are by plugging its frequency and also by planning prior to departure
Flight levels begin at FL180. There is no FL 160. It's 16,000 feet. And the author states that STARS were created to handle large amounts of traffic in an orderly manner. That's not true. STARS ans SIDS were createsd to reduce the conterollers burden during clearance delivery. Instead of reading all the waypoints he just tells you the nameof the arrival or departure.
Not being silly or anything, but wont all of this interfere with the atc or must i disconnect it. Why i asked this that i tried this in the fmc (Level D) and atc tells turn such a such of degrees all the time when i engage LNAV to follow waypoints and more. I dont know whai i am doing wrong. when starting the flight planner in fs9 i do the basics such as origin and dest., choose IFR and then DIRECT GPS. Is IRECT GPS the problem or should i choose VOR to VOR, HIGH AIRWAYS etc. Someone help.
I think this video was designed for vatsim, which is online FS with live ATC. You need to input the waypoints for your flight plan manually, after building a flight plan using the site he mentions, or FSbuild.
its best to download or buy a planning software e.g. fs navigator which can be bought and you can export routes to the fmc. it will not be easy for the absolute beginner but there are other fmc tutorials on youtube and you should maybe look at as many as possible. I had to learn too but at least I had an instructor.
Nice tutorial. Only thing, think you confused the "landing south" and "landing north," as if you're 'landing north,' you're actually coming in from the south and heading north on the final approach.
FMC's do come in handy, but they can be a crutch. Try flying a non RNAV flight using only using VORs and NDB. Great fun. Another note on the 727's, they don't have an Auto-Throttle. With no A/T and more power than you will know what to do with, you need to keep your speed in check. :-)
yea i know. evry now and then i fly a cessna172 useing only VORs and NDB's. altho i always keep the GPS handy incase of a failuer or bad whether.
and yea i know the 727s diten have auto throttel. actualy when i went to a airshow about a year ago. i sat in a old fedex 727, i actualy looked for a auto throttel, but that was before i found out that very few if any ever had one.
recend ivao poll find out that there are more people playin offline than online; its not comlicated but just selecting your next destination in flightplan/ gps is not enough (u have to exit fs; find charts; print charts; study charts...) btw nice videos
The Flight Levels have to be in co-ordination with the 29.92 Altimeter settings.
16,000ft would require the local pressure settings, meaning you could techincally be at FL150 or FL170 in the right conditions.
But I do appreciate the fact that you used FL terminology to make things simpler and easy to swallow. And that makes this comment completly contradictorary!
The only problems I'm running into on my PMDG 737-800 is that the FMC is reporting "insufficient fuel" as soon as I "activate" any legs I put in, also when I start entering VOR's like "ORL", "CRG", "MCN", I'm given a long list in some cases of what one to choose.
Make sure that you have enough fuel, also make sure that your dont have your reserve fuel set to high in the FMC since that will also cause the problem. Fill the tanks and make your reserve 5000 and you should be ok
Thats what I did in the FMC anyway, set the reserves to 5.0 = 5000. In the load manager, maybe do I set the passenger and baggage levels too high. The number one question, where do I set fuel levels. In FS2004 when I have 70% to 80% full aircraft set from the load manager it tells me the aircraft is about a ton too heavy anyway with whatever fuel it has set. The load manager usually says about 35000lbs possible fuel, does it do fuel for me.
Hi
This was very useful information. Thank you.

@kylemoshiea You always takeoff and land into the wind.

@WTurbiasz What if there is a cross wind? would it be better to land at the North or South of the airport if the wind is coming from the east?

onehand77 2 years ago
Those waypoints are part of the enroute segment of the flight plan and can be found on high or low altitude enroute charts by Jeppesen or NACA.

skyvector has some very nice sectional charts also that you may want to look at.

FLight Managment Computer. Its available on almost all modern aircraft.
WTurbiasz 4 years ago
You are just wrong on one thing here, between WITRO and SWAUK it's 16,000 ft QNH not FL160 as you said ;)
ygascard 4 years ago
FL160 and 16,000 feet is the same thing :)
WTurbiasz 4 years ago
rofl :D
Maybe you should review your altimetry WTurbiasz ;)
FL160 is a Flight level. Altimeter is set to standard QNH 1013 hPa/29,92 inHg. This has to be set over TA (which is 18,000 ft in the US)
16,000 feet is an altitude. Altimeter is set to local QNH. This has to be set below TL (which is FL180 in the US).
ygascard 4 years ago
Ygascard is right.

jonthedoors 4 years ago
Yeah, thats in the US. But if this would be e.g. in Germany, he would be 100% correct, because they have a TA of 5000ft... =)
Great videro, though!
