o my god this looks so goood :o i love chocolate so much! :) but i live in the US so the measuring is different, so i dont know how much of the ingredients to use :/
I just made these, I almost over did the chocolate melting but saved it just in time, I used rum essence but next time will use dark rum as you can barely taste it but Oh My are they delish! The recipe is far too big for my needs, half would have been ample I had way too much mixture but they are fantastic Thank you so much for such an easy to follow video on how to make this amazing tasting treat Christmas is sorted!
Hi David! I have a question, will the alcohol burn out of the rum if you mix it in with the heated chocolate? Or will it be ok? Thanks for the recipe =]
@MarryMeLancel No, the alcohol won't burn out. But there is such a small amount of alcohol in this recipe it shouldn't be an issue. You'd have to eat hundreds of them to even get close to drunk! If you like, you can use Rum Flavoring instead ;)
@alwy963 Basically, melting chocolate with a double boiler allows the chocolate to remain glossy when it re-sets (if you are using it to coat something) However, if the melted chocolate is going to be mixed with other ingredients (like this recipe) that isn't necessary ;)
First off wanted to tell you how much I love your recipes! Now that I've gotten that out of the way not sure if anyone has asked, but I was wondering what type of rum would you reccomend? I have spiced rum at home now, would that work?
@Ffojt Because the rum balls are not cooked in any way, the alcohol will not "cook off" - so there will still be alcohol in the final product. But it should be noted that 1 tablespoon of Rum for every 30-50 balls is almost nothing, so I wouldn't worry about anyone getting drunk!
oooh they look awesome, I love Rum balls and always happy to see them at parties etc, i have never made them, but actually they look so simple to do, and I am going to give them a try, thanks So much:)))
We don't have 'dessicated' coconut here in the US. We have coconut flakes, which are big, moist, and filled with chemicals...probably not the same. Also, it would be very helpful if you can provide the name brand of the biscuits you use. Even though we don't have all the same brands in the US, we do have some import shops where we can buy UK/Aussie things. Thanks!
I pretty much died when I saw this video! Rum balls are my favourite treat. I have no idea why I never thought to try and make them. Thanks so much!!! I will have to try them with Bailey's ;)
@MrButterworth24 To be honest, I used a bad recipe. I'm certain it had a misprint or a missing ingredient. Realistically it was just frozen chocolate ganache, and I couldn't figure out how that could work - which it didn't!
its my girlfriends birthday in 2 weeks time i think i might make this for her could i add a different acohol like wine or something or could u give me a list of different acohols i can put in it ?
@katiebaby1 Don't use wine. I recommend using a liqueur like Kahlua, Bailey's or Tia Maria. You could also use something non-alcoholic like Vanilla Essence, Orange Essence or Peppermint Essence ;)
