A better approach but more time intensive is to dig a 2 and a half foot hole, drop in a couple of fish heads, add a handful of bone meal, several crushed egg shells, couple of handfuls of 4-4-4 slow release organic fertilizer, couple of whole aspirin, handful of worm casting or rich compost, fill back in with enriched soil, bury plant straight down so only top of plant is above surface but sprinkle some myccorhizae right below roots. water several times to get to roots.
