Honestly you can make these type of beats with ANY beatmaking software that allows you to chop your samples. What makes the beat sound professionally done is the mixing. All you have to do is track the beat out and import it to Protoolss and Mix it down.

people for some reason think that what we do as "sampling producers" is rocket science. It's not . The making the track is basic. It's all about finding the right sample. From there making the beat is 5-10 minutes. Then Mixing brings it all together.
Not really as intricate as they think. It may sound hard to somebody who cant do it but it's way harder to do beats without sampling. BY Far!
Completely ignorant. That you think mixing is such a large contributor to musical value makes your position questionable. The rhythmic complexities appearent in hip-hop (as an acculturation of african polythmic structures for example) lend the genre an endless multitude of "grooves" and "feels" whether sampled or otherwise.
In short, your position completely discredits and devalues the skill of rhythmic drumming in hip-hop (as something that can be duplicated by a computer sequencer perhaps).
In actuality, it's not ignorant at all. You just completely missed my point. What I'm speaking of (mixing)has nothing to do with the different patterns or polythmic structures. I'm simply speaking on the sonic tonality of the track in regards to mixing bringing it all together. Also in actuality you can do anything with software that you can do with an MPC and a Keyboard.
All an MPC is, is the Hardware,selfcontained version of software and vice-versa.
and furhtermore, speaking from experience, Pro-Tools has Grooves made to Emulate the different grooves created by all of the drum machines when using midi in conjunction with the Digidesign Instrument Packs. Also I know that there are some sonic qualities that come with the original instruments that just cant be duplicated through software, but the same is true when trying to use the simulated sounds through a Fantom. So that's a whole other discussion in itself.

keep in mind that he still samples from and probably syncs using vinyl records. Sampling and time-stretching is still considered sub-par when compared to the capabilities of the MPC--the more common midi controller among artists used for sampling and drum input. Notably, no pictures that I have seen of 9th Wonder show him using an external midi device to play his drums, although it is likely from the humanized feel of his beats that he does so.
I never mentioned sampling rates, I'm talking about features and usability. Even ReCycle was more capable in my experience, although I've been involved with producer edition and it does seem much improved over fl7, which I was using as my reference. Bottom line is that I'll have to experience what fl9 has to offer before I make this comparison again.

Honestly you can make these type of beats with ANY beatmaking software that allows you to chop your samples. What makes the beat sound professionally done is the mixing. All you have to do is track the beat out and import it to Protoolss and Mix it down.

people for some reason think that what we do as "sampling producers" is rocket science. It's not . The making the track is basic. It's all about finding the right sample. From there making the beat is 5-10 minutes. Then Mixing brings it all together.
Not really as intricate as they think. It may sound hard to somebody who cant do it but it's way harder to do beats without sampling. BY Far!

Completely ignorant. That you think mixing is such a large contributor to musical value makes your position questionable. The rhythmic complexities appearent in hip-hop (as an acculturation of african polythmic structures for example) lend the genre an endless multitude of "grooves" and "feels" whether sampled or otherwise.
In short, your position completely discredits and devalues the skill of rhythmic drumming in hip-hop (as something that can be duplicated by a computer sequencer perhaps).

In actuality, it's not ignorant at all. You just completely missed my point. What I'm speaking of (mixing)has nothing to do with the different patterns or polythmic structures. I'm simply speaking on the sonic tonality of the track in regards to mixing bringing it all together. Also in actuality you can do anything with software that you can do with an MPC and a Keyboard.
All an MPC is, is the Hardware,selfcontained version of software and vice-versa.

and furhtermore, speaking from experience, Pro-Tools has Grooves made to Emulate the different grooves created by all of the drum machines when using midi in conjunction with the Digidesign Instrument Packs. Also I know that there are some sonic qualities that come with the original instruments that just cant be duplicated through software, but the same is true when trying to use the simulated sounds through a Fantom. So that's a whole other discussion in itself.

keep in mind that he still samples from and probably syncs using vinyl records. Sampling and time-stretching is still considered sub-par when compared to the capabilities of the MPC--the more common midi controller among artists used for sampling and drum input. Notably, no pictures that I have seen of 9th Wonder show him using an external midi device to play his drums, although it is likely from the humanized feel of his beats that he does so.

Not true actually about the quality. With FL 9 Producer edition you can actuallly set the quality as high as you want it.
He's not actually using FL anymore tho. He's using an MPC 2500.

I never mentioned sampling rates, I'm talking about features and usability. Even ReCycle was more capable in my experience, although I've been involved with producer edition and it does seem much improved over fl7, which I was using as my reference. Bottom line is that I'll have to experience what fl9 has to offer before I make this comparison again.
