THIS is when Sesame Street was worth something! Everything on there is either &#@$%! Elmo, Elmo, Elmo or is some computer generated matted-in scene....SAD! For crying out loud -even Bert and Ernie aren't real anymore, but rather computer generated animated things that look NOTHING like the real ones did!
Haha, i love how they have a fully finished cup at the end on the wheel. As a kid you don't realize the work that goes into the forming, heating, painting, and reheating.
I have fond memories of seeing this for the first time when I was 3 years old. I recall being out with my mother at a hot dog place or something, staring at the ceiling, and this song popped in my head.
I remember watching this short film as a child. It must have left an impression on me, because now I make wheel-thrown ceramics. Imagine how all these short Sesame Street clips have influenced and shaped so many people's lives.
I love the music of the old sesame street clips .... brings me back to an innocent time with full of sunshine and rain, playing outside with friends and cousins, happy times with grandparents and get togethers....when life was much slower paced than it is today....how i miss those days... this music brings me back to them...thanx a whole lot...
I'm looking for sesame street segments with a people in black tights with clay masks that they would sculpt into creepy faces onthe spot. anyone remember that?
I remember when I was a little kid seeing this, I didn't understand what was going on, since at 3 years old, I didn't recognize that it was clay being shaped on a wheel. There were a lot of visual things from Sesame street that mystified me when I was that young, but it's great to see it now and piece it all together.
I remember every time I saw this and any pottery scene, I recall thinking how messy it was and how I wouldn't want to do that. I was also surprised on how the handle got onto the cup. (Obviously put on afterwards.)
I love this clip so much... haven't seen it since, oh, I dunno... about 1973! Why isn't the show soothing like this anymore? Why must children be "stimulated"? (Anybody who's actually raised children knows they are stimulated quite enough by themselves... try putting one to bed.)
I remembered hearing the music on this film like I heard on the butterfly film. I liked the music and I liked it when they made the cup at the end of the pottery film.
I know someone who is blind and is a big Sesame Street fan, and I've been explaining the visuals to her for a lot of the Sesame Street clips. She didn't know until I told her why the music didn't always end with someone saying "butterfly." She had no idea that there was a pottery clip with the same music as the butterfly one since she had no visual reference. Obviously, blind people miss a lot if a sighted person doesn't clue them in on what's going on in the clips.

Ah, the magic of innocence.

Somehow or another, this would probably be construed as child abuse nowadays.

I loved this clip as a kid!
I honestly think this particular Raposo song is one my favorites! I'm curious, does anyone know if it has a title?

Yes, relaxing indeed! It's hard to listen to music like this and let your worries get the better of you!

Whenever we did clay work in kindergarten, I was always reminded of this neat clip. I'm sure I wasn't the only one!

Funny.. when I first saw this (in 1970), I thought the first pottery work (the one being cut with the wire) was made of chocolate.
I, too, wanted a pottery wheel after seeing this!

Watching this as a kid in the 70's made me want to get a potters wheel. It looked like fun!

I was so fascinated by this clip when I was little. It was amazing to me. I'm still just glued to the screen when I watch it now.

Can't believe I missed this before; I'm definitely adding it to my folder of "making stuff" clips from the show. Five stars!

The girl in the video looks exactly like my wife did at that age. I'm sure nobody cares, but it did creep us out!
spicy321 4 years ago 2
I'm guessing that girl ia about 43 or 44 today. If your wife is younger than that, it definitely isn't her.
mstatz 4 years ago
Yeah, she's pretty sure she was never on Sesame Street before she was born!

Right. I noticed that in the audio soundtrack.

At the end of this clip, the kid that yelled "butterfly" should yell "POTTERY!" or maybe "CLAY!"
