Had the pleasure to have seen Sandy many times before his accident and the only better drummer is Gene Krupa. Would have loved to have seen and heard them together
@blah5533 Since when can only one instrument play during a solo? Any rock song would be pretty boring if all other instruments stopped as soon as one of them started on a solo.
@blah5533 Ha ha, is everyone on youtube a 12yo troll these days? Both you and that dictionary is wrong. With solo one usually means that one particular instrument is lifted in front of the others, being the focus of attention one could say. Like when Jimmy page plays his solo at the end of Stairway to heaven or when Jon Paul Jones goes nuts on the bass on Scumbag blues (or since you seem to be quite young, maybe Slash in Novemeber Rain would be a better reference.)
@blah5533 And reading your quotation from the dictionary it clearly supports me and the poster of this video anyhow "not combined with other parts of equal importans", which is exactly what I said. One instrument being more important then the others, being the "center of attention". Now do you realize this is a solo?
@azerkahn that really good, first you say that the dictionary is wrong then you say it's correct. which is it? ..take your time over this , we wouldn't want to rush you into making a mistake. and as I'm having a quiet night in on my own with some friends there really is no need for you to hurry up.. oh wait you've deleted your comment about the oxford english dictionary being wrong. the english speaking world should burn all their copies and buy copies of azerkahn english dictionary instead
@blah5533 I haven't deleted any comment, it's still there. And yes the dictionary was right, I just didn't read your citation that carefully at first. I guess I just asumed you would have posted a quote that was contradicting me since it sounded like that was your point. But since you say im both right and wrong at the same time I guess your point was simply to start an argument and nothing else. Still, have a nice day!
Sandy Nelson was my first drum idol in high school before i discovered jazz. This is not your traditional version of Wipeout but some great drumming. I think the Ventures had the best version of this song with Mel Taylor. I love the way alot of the early rock & roll drummers played the ride rhythm on a ride cymbal and not everything on the hi-hats like they do now.
Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Sandy Nelson, Louie Belson and well, there are not to many others that can capture the precision of the "brain to hand to stix" all that appreciate; we bow in your presence!!!!!!! and thank you for the lessons......john
Very Kool! Sandy always got such a good sound & feel out of his drums. I like The Surfaris' version, and The Ventures do it justice, too - their drummer Mel was no slouch on the skins, either! Hahaha. Regards, '62 Mathew St. (Total Retro Rock)
@Breatherable I imagine his name is connected to it,because he's the drummer, dah.I checked out your Surfaris. Prreetty bad, No wonder I never heard of them
Best version of wipe out. and to slikrok. sandy not a accomplished Drummer. He was one of the best of his time in the 60's. Krupa and rich were OK in the 40's and 50's. nuff said on that one. Go sandy
Sorry? Am I hearin' you right? SN is a fabulous drummer and devised some wicked and simple to play rhythms! Suggest you check your facts - have a listen to his playing and try it yourself. Write it out or get a manuscript it will inspire you and improve your playing!
@slikrok593 You must be verrrry young. Sandy Nelson not an accomplished drummer? Name every great drummer of the sixties groups. Chances are? A huge number of them were inspired by Sandy Nelson. Carmine Appice has a video about him. Steve Smith has written about him. Max Wienberg. Ringo .. Sandy Nelson. Keith Moon! Come on? Learn some history.

@azerkahn ....ever since solo meant this ( taken from oxford english dictionary
Music . performing alone: a part for solo bassoon.
performed alone; not combined with other parts of equal importance; not concerted.
alone; without a companion or partner: a solo flight.

Fabulous! Sandy Nelson introduced me, in my early teens, to drums as a musical instrument!!!
Among the greats, don't forget Bill Bruford!

Breatherable, because Sandy Nelson is a great drummer, I like hearing different versions of this song. You sound like a moron.
DA90027 1 year ago 4
Why is Sandy Nelson's name attributed to this piece? he had nothing to do with it. Wipeout is the original composition of the Surfaris from 1963.

Strange how Sandy Nelson was not really a
very accomplished drummer , but sold
many records . For really " knock-out" drum
solos , look up Buddy Rich and Gene Krupa ;
both were very musical and played solos that
swing !

Not again. We did that in 1965. Don't you boys never grow up? :-)
