  • Hey remember the old Betta video players.

  • 1rst video to appear on MTV back in 1981

  • I don't agree. MTV didn't kill videos. They aired amazing videos in their first five years.

Then the music industry realized that they could turn videos into 4 minute commercials.

  • The first video to air on MTV. How ironic that MTV killed music videos!

  • Great song when MTV was worth watching

  • Amen to that!!! I remember when MTV actually HAD music vids to watch. I used to watch Pop Up Video. Now that was cool.

  • It was until it became reality shows, now you have to wait for reruns of I love the 80's on VH1.

  • I remember sitting around with my friends watchings videos thinking how cool they were---its all gone now---music is nothing but garbage now.

  • I do, i also remeber when MTV was founded and only had a few video's to play. Then everyone rushed to create video's to promote their music and the first VJ's. Those were the days.

  • Does anybody remember when @#$%& MTV actually played videos and live music? Now it's Oprah and Despearte Housewives.

  • And the oscar goes to "Hans Zimmer"

  • ..we can't rewind we"ve gone too far.

  • Best song of GTA Vice City ! too!

  • first video played on MTV

  • hi the song is from 1979 i have the 45 r.p.m. great song and nice video. ciao

  • Yes, this was the very first video MTV showed when the channel debuted in 1981! It was to signify the change the music world was now entering into.

And how true this was. Bands like Chicago and The Isley Bros were great over the radio, but not handsome enough for on-camera videos. It forced musicians and DJs to become more glamorous in appearance to reach a larger audience

  • Fantastically good song. Brings back very good memories for me (dancing at discos or any parties). Tnks a million!!!!!!

  • i sung this on singstar 80's with my auntie.

and my score was 7650.This song ROCKS!

  • I never realized that Bubbles (from Trailer Park Boys) had a singing career in the

    80s....LOL!!!

  • This is the best song in the 80's

  • I believe this was the first song ever to be played on MTV.

  • you would be correct

  • love the bass line.

  • another trevor horne classic

  • haha this was my favorite song on vice city! video killed the radio star! i'd sing along in the game lol oh wha oh!

  • Hans Zimmer at 2:52 x-D

  • agua agua

  • oh Vice City, how you bring back memories. XD

  • lol i was just thinking that.

  • Wonder if this guys wife ever came out of her coma. Poor woman was accidentally shot in the neck by their son with a pellet gun.

  • I am his wife and I am fine thank you. My son has no pocket money until he is 54.

  • Really? That would be.....amazing considering that Trevor Horn, the lead singer for the band, and his wife got married in 1980.....and your bio lists you as being 28. Since the current year is 2009 you may understand the confusion here, unless of course you're telling just a bit of a fib. Also if you are his wife then your name would be Jill Sinclair, wouldn't it, what kind of handle is ady10001? Sorry, but I don't buy it.

  • ady is short for Jill, duh.

  • You claiming to be someone is much older than you........duh.

  • And just what kind of sick pleasure do you get from pretending you're this guys wife when you're 28 and she was 54 at the time of the accident? You know there are places you can go for help. Try lots of medication.

  • The song & video that launched a legend.

  • Great driving song! .... Vice city! xD

  • Vice City :D

  • i think this is about a girl's self as-team being crushed after seeing pretty girls getting with the boys she liked

  • i wonder if its jest me but he looks like David Leddermen

  • Yeah that says it all about the 80s and all the good music from that era. We cant rewind weve gone to far! I sure miss those days!

  • first music video

  • NO!!! First vid on MTV! But not the first vid ever!

  • The bass line in this song just flat out kicks ass, still waitin for Will Smith to sample it... if he still makes music that is.. great song

  • i heard this song on vice city XD

  • haha hq audio my ass. cool song though

  • great Memories!

  • Best mtv song in the world. 1st vid. love it

  • first video of mtv

  • GREATT

  • Trivia...this was the first video ever shown on MTV, which no longer shows videos. Reality TV has killed the video star apparently :(

  • Video killed the radio star...The internet killed the video star....Copyright is killing the internet star......

  • He was a Black Panther; he was framed up by the police on a bogus murder charge and currently sits on death row in Pennsylvania.

  • he wasn't framed. he is guilty. i read all the court transcripts and nothing you and

all the other fools who support this

    animal will convince me otherwise.

  • I have also read the court transcripts. There were many constitutional violations in the 1982 trial of Mumia e.g. bringing up Mumia's past political activities. It felt like they Philly cops had it in for him.

Also, even if he really did kill that cop, he shouldn't get the death penalty. If it's wrong to kill, it's still wrong when the state does it. Who executes the executioner?

  • Your mom.

  • He did it. He's guilty. He insisted on acting

as his own lawyer. He has no one to

blame but himself. He should be dead.

    Period.

  • Even if he's guilty, he shouldn't get the death penalty. If it's wrong to kill someone, it's always wrong, even if the state does it. Who executes the executioner?

Also, I've seen Mumia interviewed on Youtube, and he doesn't seem like a murderer.

  • What the hell does a murderer seem like?

  • Whenever you see interviews of serial killers - like Ted Bundy - they seem a little weird. They seem glib, and you get this creepy vibe from them. I don't get that from Mumia.

  • He's had a long time to work on his act.

  • Reminds me of GTA: Vice City... Flash FM

  • totally agree

  • Long live Mumia Abu-Jamal.

  • LOL Now it's like youtube killed the video star! LOL NO reality tv and corporations did that?

  • Excellent comment! YouTube Killed the the video star! I didn't think I would find such a lively discussion going on in here!

  • even tho i dont play GTA religously like most, it reminds me of vice city...lolol

  • the "ow ow"s are so fuckin hilarious

  • Oh my gosh, this is hilarious! :D

  • i just cry when i here this song now...

  • Put the blame on vcr,now there extinct.lol

  • You're a poet and didn't know it. I said the exact same thing in my head.

  • I know its an accent, but it most definatly sounds like shes saying, "store" for "star".

Like... theres almost no differance and if you didnt know better then you wouldnt have ever known she was saying star.

    Good sound none the less.

  • Hmm. A curious case of Micheal Jackson? made me lol

  • owch

    bad taste now bro

  • isnt this ironic how they made a music vid of how video killed the radio star

  • More ironic is that MTV killed the music video

  • Well Said.

  • Well played, sir.

  • this was the first ever video played on mtv (hence the irony message above)

  • Good tune, good times.

  • The lead singer looks like a guy from the band Happy the Clown...look them up...

  • I thought it was Zippy the conehead?

  • whoa!!! that guy looks like he has a curious case of michael jackson!

  • NEWMARK401: That is not common knowledge. Cite your sources...

  • AH! When Mtv was good.

  • my brother and I had this on a 45 vinyl when we were coming up in England

  • haha its so funny that no its probably like youtube killed the tv star

  • ahhhh first MTV song... gosh I miss when they just played music like they did back in the 80's with all the great songs

  • ya your not the only one who wants this back

  • This song was released in 1979 and reached number one in the UK for one week in October of that year.

  • I still have this on a casset and i have an orig. walkman mobil casset player

  • Songs like this truly herald the dawm of 1980s.

This is a classic piece of music history right here.

  • Anyone know who's womens' voice that is at the end of the song singing 'you are a radio star?'

  • The female vocalists on this recording are Debi Doss and Linda Jardim.

  • They never played it in front of an audience until 2004 because a few weeks after the song was released they broke up.

  • this is my all time favorite song!!!

  • This song is actually from 1979.

  • this is when pop music was GOOD, when the popstars could actaully sing and write there own songs and play there instruments! now its all computer generated, it really sucks

  • They forgot to tell NPR.

  • HECK YES BABY!

    Viddeeeo killlled the raaadio staaarrrrr.

That's the reason the song is famous- it was just meant to be the first video on MTV. Too bad MTV isn't all about music anymore.

  • I thought this was a remake.

Wasn't the original by Camera Club?

  • other way around

  • It wouldn't make sense for her to make a remake!! She only knows the Ipod not what a radio is LOL!! She's like 2 and has no real knowledge of what this song meant...it was the first to be played on MTV for a reason could she tell us why?? I think NO!!!

  • reminds me off vice city

  • I don't think anyone should do a remake of this. I'm not out to attack Miley Cyrus I'm just saying this song is a real treasure and I can't think of anyone who could do a remake that would be decent. It would be like doing a remake of Stairway to Heaven.

  • she would get muderd

  • Ich libe diesen song einfach nur herrlich quietschich!!!

  • I think everyone here could agree and a resounding NO.

  • If Miley Cyrus did this, a hole would rip the galaxy into 3/4 and everyone would turn into medium rare steaks and Llamas

  • fuck you

  • Haha, Hans zimmer is in this video ^^

  • Someone doesn't know what "HQ" means...

  • high quality

  • This audio is anything but HIGH quality

  • I love his glasses

  • MTV was so much better until they brought that stupid reality show crap into the picture i dont even watch it anymore or at least i barley watch it at all if ever

  • the reality shows are amazing, why dont you just watch much music

  • yeah, but i love viva la bam

  • true that broooo

like jackass and wildboyz and viva la bam

that shits funny n still goood

but all that other shit fucked it up

  • weird vid, good song ^_^

  • The very first video MTV played, back when MTV was worth watching

  • AMEN

  • when it was actually music television not stupid reality shows television

  • this was the first music video on MTV back in the 80s

  • what a freak

    you fucking wait mate

ill bang you out all over the show and everythaaaaaang

  • your actually being very rude, fuck rigtht off you nuttaaaa, im going to come after your children coz i am the new zodiac killer, if you dont know him then look him up DIRTBOX!

  • oh my gosh

miss hinks shut up you looser

    get a life 2k9 mayte

  • oh my god i love this video so muhc, its so extra dramatic faulks, just look at the extravagant textures of each face, it just sends me into a trance with the swaying to the fantastic musis, love yooh

  • Lol, who else found this song playing Grand Theft Auto Vice City?

  • I did. Can't remember the radio station though.

  • Thank you Doble for the add, and I do know that MTV does play some music still, however for the few of us that remember the day it started, MTV stood for MUSIC television, not just television...if we wanted to see TV programs, that is what the other 500 channels are for. MTV itself has other channels, let the reality TV shows be placed there and let the music be what is featured on Music Television. Just a thought, but I think Bowling for Soup's song 1985 says it all.....LOL

  • I don't think they had 500 channels back then.

  • To me, this video means that at that point looks became a bigger factor than actual talent.

  • this music, and alot fo other 80 music makes the song seem 10 min long, its a great way to have alot expirience in short time

  • T'was an awesome video for the time it was made, grew up on this music.

  • Pretty nice! =)

  • Yes, Kronik....this is the first video ever played on MTV....when they still played music videos that is....LOL

  • they still do play music videos, they just play tv shows aswell now

  • Radio killed the book star. Video killed the Radio star. Games killed the video star. Internet killed the game star.

  • Porn killed the internet star

  • wasn this the 1st mtv video?

  • yep

  • LUV DIS SONG!!!! =D

  • sick song wayyyy best ever

  • I really like this one

  • Soooooo catchy it's irresistable. And I listen to Jimi and Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath. But I can't help but love 80s New Wave!

  • Amber Pacific does a good cover of this.

  • best song

  • Awesome. You are.....a video star.

  • August 1, 1981 was the date that this video premiered. Imagine that. Thank You.

  • Ha! I was like negative 3 months

  • first time i heard this song was in gta vice city haha

  • IIRC this was the very first video/song played on MTV.

  • That's fitting, the first music video sings about the transfer from the radio to the music video.

  • I am really shocked Mr. West hasn't stolen this yet...

    Opppssss..... He did...

  • YouTube killed the radio star...

  • more like illigal download places kill them...

  • true true

  • No, God doesn't forgive us. Rap is just short for Crap.

  • damn this sound good, i should be a rap generation, but rap SUUUUUUUUUUUCKS!

  • Rap is crap that rules only the shitter! I'm glad to see that many believe the real reason why MTV is not what it was intended for. The 80's rule to this day and cannot be duplicated at all. Too bad for this generation which is indeed, the worst this country has seen. Too bad these kids are our children. God forgives us.

  • Why don't you tell YOUR kids that you disgusting pig.

  • this song is wicked sweet! 'nouf said

  • thats my little sis tracy in the video

  • Then Rap and Reality TV killed MTV

  • joebblack1963 -- You got that right.MTV kicked ass until the reality shows and shitty rap music took over. I remember this video being played on HBO in between movies as a fill in...

  • how many people rember when MTV played music videos all day instead of all this rap shit and reality shows

  • i love this song ;)

  • yeah video killed the radio star and mtv killed videos : (

  • youtube killed mtv..
