  • High earnings? No glasses? Be on top of physical acts? --> you didn't chose the right job ;) Next time seach a little bit longer

  • Did I see Kenny Powers??????????

  • For all the people saying that the pay is crap and putting the job down.....First of all I'd like to let you know, that first year medical school graduates make around 30k a year and work on call at the hospital and work worse hours than first year pilots. Same with Lawyers...you think they work on cases? No....they work as assistants and gain experience. You think that in the 50s a pilot would leave flight school and make big money right away? NO, it was the same way..Get your head out of your

  • shiit ........ you know nothing

  • hello all, am a private pilot working on commercial license, the proffesion requires a lot of hard work and the pay may be not all that good now a days, but the sheer joy of flying, my friends is second to none. its better than sitting in a cubbicle and taking shit from your manager any day ( have experienced it) . making fortune please don't take the job its not gonna be satisfactory work at walmart for nw..:-)

  • @intrepidface07 finally, someone else who understands. People don't become pilots just for the money, its too hard for that. We do it for the passion of flying and the adventures you have as a pilot, it feels more like it is our pastime, not our occupation!

  • What course you need to be a pilot like in this video?

reply please i live here in Philippines

  • shall i be a pilot, because i want to be one but when people keep on commenting that this job is rubbish and cant make a fortune out of it even though i love flying and looking out the planes to see that breath-taking view. please help me!!!!!!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @m9u7shuriken you need help for this? are you some kind of weak guy that let people decide ur future? seriously...

  • You can be a pilot if you have bad eye sight, you can use glasses to correct it. That's what I was told from a pilot klm.

  • I am working in the airline and I see many pilots out of shape. what ever this video said its not true.

  • i would of thought the down side to this job is the cabin pressure and high uv exposure. As a passenger on flights i have started to feel the enviroment up there can start to get to you physically and mentally after a while. it can be quite stressful. it feels quite hot up there on sunny days and you realyl can feel the increased uv exposure.

  • LOOL she says "Pilots have to be in EXCELLENT condition..." while they show te Co-pilot is like OVER WEIGHT LOOL

  • The pilot's job is soooooo easy!

  • @zcg3 depends what part of the industry you are in, try working at a charter company in the far north, on a Twin Otter, loading 45Gal fuel drums at -40, spending weeks on end at mining camps and dealing with the sometimes treacherous condititons of float flying into uncharted lakes. While airline work may be relatively easy, the job of a bush pilot is no walk in the park (try rolling up to 7 or 8 375lbs fuel drums up a 45 degree sloped barrel ramp.

  • @zcg3 not even bud. I am a student pilot at the moment and it is anything but easy. There is a ton of money, time and learning invested in it. It's one of the hardest career paths to take.

  • She said: ......20/20 vision, without glasses and next scene was a pilot with glasses (not sun glesses)....

  • @GuitarEnforcer ...SHE SAID PILOTS MUST HAVE 20/20 VISION WITH OR WITHOUT GLASSES..

  • @MAXSOL69 No, just without glasses.

  • @GuitarEnforcer No, with or without glasses idiot.

  • @beluch1000 I'm not your mom, so dont call me idiot.

  • @GuitarEnforcer You have to have 20/20 corrected.

  • you have to be physically fit? they showed a fucking 270 pound fat ass first officer and then like a 70 year old man (yes I know the FAA does not allow pilots to be actually that old) who I doubt has 20/20 vision

  • People don't even clap after a landing anymore. WTF?

Your lives are in their hands and any landing you can walk away from is a good landing.

If you get a chance to see the pilot after the landing, say "NIce landing", they really appreciate that.

  • Actually, flight engineers, are uncommon at the aircraft cockpits.

  • @quizto Nowdays they are because like it said the computers illiminate the job. But 10 years ago every big airline jet had one

  • i like 1:25

  • 0:36 - 0:40 "pilots must be in exellent physical condition"

1:17 (i guess that doesnt apply for the co-pilot eh?)

  • HAHA,,LOL... "YOU HAVE TO BE PHYSICALLY FIT?" BULLSHIT!! EVERYBODY, PAUSE AT 1:15 AND LOOK AT THE PILOT ON THE RIGHT. HAHAHA,,

  • @filipride100 hahaha he looks like he ate tonns of pizza with extra cheese , idk how he fit in that seat?? LoL....

  • @filipride100 The men is out of shape like the ma-get from men in black.

  • my dads fat and his a pilot

  • being a pilot has many advantages , but it also has disadvantages ... any way we all dream to work in airline one day becuase my life would completly change . good luck for all students .

  • This is a fail vid. You do not need 20/20 vision to be a pilot

  • @sirlego1 >>>yes you do mate. at the very beggining when you are a student training, the doctor/nurse will test you ee vision to check that it is 20/20. if it is not, then you cannot become a pilot. as well as if you are colour blind.

  • @filipride100 Civilian Pilot: It needs to be Correctable to 20-20 to be a civilian pilot. So you can wear glasses and fly.

Military: You need to have 20-20 vision uncorrected to be a pilot so you would have to get laser eye surgery to be a military pilot, however other military employments in an airborn craft may not need glasses. Such as a navigator.

    Answer two:

It depends on your country of origin mostly.

In my country (Canada) you need:

    Civilian: 20/30 corrected/uncorrected.

  • @sirlego1 eehhh, you do. period.

  • @sip615 please do not join the forces. There is no guarantee of you becoming a pilot. After you sign up and if your limitation is not within their guideline, you will end up washing plane. It would be wise to take flight lessons to learn your ratings. Then become a flight instructor.

  • surely this video is outdated, or are they being sarcastic?

  • 1:15 on the right is the guy with an excellent physical shape lol =P and what did she say about perfect 20/20 vision? lame - some go through wearing glasses!

  • @vlad33rus

I totally agree with you mate. I know 3 pilots, and 2 of them wear glasses/contact lenses. They don't have 20/20 vision.

This video is completely lame, and will kill many people's dream to become a pilot with the fake facts

  • @NiikitaPilotMen are you a pilot?

  • i want to become a pilot but my mom told me that girls are discriminated at that job,is that true?

  • @kriztiechan Of course it's not!

  • @kriztiechan No not true. you would actually have an advantage once you got to the airlines.

  • @kriztiechan depends... Are you thinking Air Force. Or are you thinking Airlines? I dont think there is verry much descrimination anymore... Trust me there are still people that descriminate against women in the cockpit. But answer your question i guess you could say no.

  • 1:15 Excellent physical condition? Dont think so, look at that fat co-pilot.

  • I wonder, is it so competitive that it's almost necessary to go through the air force or something in order to join the field? Flying has always been my dream. I'm in college right now, never been to flight school but thinking about joining the air force after college. any thoughts?

  • An employer would take the candidate that closest fits the needs of the company.

Once you become a pilot, it becomes a competition of the log book mostly.

Higher education comes into play only when it comes down to equal candidate qualifications.

  • Did USair turn into U.S. Airways?

  • @MsTommyknocker dont think so

  • yup

  • The part about air force pilots having an "advantage" is partially true, they do have an advantage against pilots who did not earn a college degree. However, civilian pilots with enough qualifying flight hours with a college degree (especially a degree in aviation/aerospace) have the same advantage, if not a bit more.

  • @Chris9183 You only need High school to become a pilot

  • @MsTommyknocker no u do not, any flight school will take u at age 16. a flight school is another school, u do not need a diploma, i have my PPL and Multi engine and have a few months before graduating

  • But surely to become a commercial airline pilot you need high school

  • @MsTommyknocker no HS, it is nice to have. they look at your hours and time commited to flying more then your HS degree. Read most airline requirements. There very minimum. 1,000 hours 100 hours turbine fcc radio license atp license. which u get through flight schools

  • You need a HS diploma or GED to become employed by a 121 or 135 carrier.

  • @alaskaairpilot about that, what bank did you rob and which do you think I should?

  • That may be true but major airlines will require you to have a college degree reguardless. Regionals you don't

  • @MsTommyknocker not in ireland any way

  • @Chris9183 - Very true

  • Eh, not so sure about that. If you put two pilots with identical qualifications together, both received degrees from the same university in the same major, both are same age/sex/race, but one flew in the military at some point the employer will most likely favor the military candidate.

  • Whoa, those F/As don't look gay OR male! What's up with that?

  • I think the cabin pressure would get to me but i would love to have this as my job. Is there no truth in the rumours about exhaust/petrol fumes in the cabin. ? I would of thought that was in older military aircraft

  • I should sue for false advertising!!!

She should have said "come work for the airlines and make less than a McDonalds manager while working with overworked and underpaid pre-menstrual pitbulls wearing lipstick. You can work 60-70 hrs a week but only get paid for 17-20 of it and have the passengers whose lives depend on you, give you grief because they think you only work 17-20 hrs a week. You can expect continual paycuts and to have your "buying power" decrease by 80% over your career........

  • amen

  • lol, rightfully said. Greyhound bus drivers and cab drivers make a lot more than regional pilots. Its a shame and a disgrace! The bitch from Colgan Air even justified it saying that they are meeting the payscale.

Why would I risk everything flying complex high risk equipment when I can get a job on the ground for a lot more and lot safer? (Not saying that piloting is unsafe, its just that it is not as safe as something like an accountant).

  • The military guys generally get dick all for hours. Once got into an "ooh luxury" match with some British military aviators and it transpired that I had more taxi time than they had flying hours! Doesn't really mean that much but it was good for a laugh at their expense (that's very important among pilots LOL).

And m1r3o, collect a wife and a couple of kids along the way and you'll see it as a job, don't worry.

  • @schlusselmensch

I don't know who is giving you your info on the "dick" hours that we fly but you should stop painting with such a broad brush. The 500 hours we get flying tactical jets is worth a lot more than 500 hours straight and level with another pilot in the cockpit helping you to make the decisions. We also get paid a whole lot more.

  • Figured I'd catch one of you military lads with that piss take LOL! You missed the part where I said it didn't mean much?

Although 500 hours is a dismal figure; that's what you should be flying per YEAR to stay sharp. Dog knows our governments piss enough away that it wouldn't affect the bottom line much.

And the reason you're paid more is so you can afford serious whoring and drinking, so get back to it like a good little fighter pilot and shut up eh!

  • Is English your first language? My post was pretty clearly in jest. If English is your first language, and you still cannot figure it out, I confess I might be worried about you whizzing around in fast jets! That's a piss take too, by the way. So wind your neck in.

  • @schlusselmensch

Relax dude. This is only the internet.

  • Attempts at good natured humour kinda bounce off you?

Is it warm where you are? Tell me what it's like. It'd kinda be like erotica right now 'cause it was -34C at my first stop this morning! Haven't been able to coax my nuts back into my scrotum for about 6 hours!

  • She's talking about old times

  • High earnings? Prestige? Excellent travel benefits? What type of job are they talking about? Wish people would see this job for what it really is. It´s not the 60´s anymore people...

  • compared to other jobs, yes. Are there even glamorous jobs anymore unless you work in some kind of fancy restaurant? ( or lawyer, ceo, and alike) If you work for a major airline, you and family travels for free.(captains) So, this job is really... fun, thats what it really is.

  • I'm a pilot, and ALL of the people I talk to are amazed that the job isn't so glamorous, and that pilots really don't make that much money unless they are captains for major airlines.

  • Very high earnings my ass. Glamor and prestige are long gone from this profession.

  • Some of the worst pilots I have flown with were trained by the U. S. Air Force. Most are ok ......but many..........not so good.

  • loved the end!! all the black just amazing!!!

  • HAHA!

  • AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH That is so my Dream of becoming an Airline Pilot!

  • same for me!

  • mcgra8bc : u dont gave up as an airlines pilot cause only airlines give u up! y? cause u sucks!

  • Being an airline pilot sucks. So glad I gave it all up.

  • why did it suck?

  • Theres no way I would become a pilot. Sorry, but the simple truth is that the job is nothing what it used to be.

These days you gotta do what ever it take to make good money, and then spend it on flying as a hobby.

I would hate to hate the magic of flight because of a job.

    Check it. Hope you enjoy.

Slow Motion, Casio Exilim EX FC100, Thermik XXXL

  • Real pilots dont see it as a job! I'm not a pilot yet but hopefully I'll be one soon!

  • high earnings....HAHAHHAHAHHAHHAHA

you mean the 26k a year i was making before they laid me off....

  • Who did you fly for and 26k what?

  • Oh and were you F/O ?

  • First Officer, ExpressJet Airlines EMB-145

And first year pay is 19,800 USD (before taxes)

Based on the current contract rates.

  • I agree, its absolutely pathetic. Most people are shocked to hear that. Even the congress when they heard testimonials of the Colgan Air Crash pilot (FO) female, 24 yrs old, made 16200 per year without any accomodation allowance or personal living allowance.

Its strange because people know how complex of a job piloting is and how detailed and presence-of-mind it requires.

  • I just lost my job as a pilot in Spain ... next job oprtunity ... co-pilot : 2000 $ ... a month to work 16 hours dayly ... the guy that cleans my house make more than me working 6 hours a day, weekends off and sleeping at home ever single night ...

Yes I will apply for a house keeper!!!

  • how did You lose Your job????

  • I guess tou are not a pilot... You wouldnt ever say like this if you were....

  • it's the truth... Aviation is not wat it used to be.... i

  • why the fuck is it just a black screen for like a minute?

  • Love how as they say pilots are in top physical condition they show a big chunky over the hill guy. Would've just been better to show a obese man putting away packs of twinkies whilst turning the auto-pilot on.

  • lol i can tell by that ignorant comment that you must be an actual bus driver perhaps and you hate your job and your life...... maybe you should have went to college...

  • @xXGETR0CKEDxX

    LOL!!!! set that guy straight

  • mmmmm at 1:16 the first officer its too healthy isn't it???? hahahahahah fat pilot!!! and aircarft pilots are different from the helicopter pilots

  • isn't a helicopter an aircraft?? i hope u r not a pilot

  • Yes, i am a pilot, i'm first officer of the A320 from Interjet here in Mexico. And i didn't said that a helicopter isn't an aircraft, did I???? I only said "AIRCRAFT PILOT'S ARE DIFFERENT FROM HELICOPTER PILOTS" because you dont learn the same things, are two different careers.

  • yeah I know what you mean... you meant "AIRPLANE pilots are different from helicopter pilots" ;)

    I'm a pilot too :D

  • Just about everything said in this video is bullshit. I'm a pilot for an airline and let me tell you don't need 20/20 vision without glasses and we make less than a manager at your local McDonalds. I fucking think this video needs to be deleted now!

  • They said, with or without glasses. Must be quite a small airline for that wage or are you an FO

  • even if he's a FO ... it must be a small airlane

  • Are you a regional airline pilot?

  • this is good to know.

  • What are the chances of keeping your 20/20 vision throughout your life?

And how can i maintain it?

  • eat lots of carrots

  • why did they spam ur comment

  • god knows...

  • Whatsup with the "20/20 vision" ?

It's no problem at all to fly with glasses.

  • 20/20 corrected vision.

But it did used to be no corrective lenses.

  • 20/20 vision ... with or without glasses it said!!

  • In Bulgaria is the opposite. The ex-fighter pilots are not valued at all by the airliners.

  • why

  • Because they have to spent much more money in training them and prefer to hire the already trained civil pilots.

  • The 2007 (or 08 i have to check back) income reports show a delta 10 year caption earned 210k a year (thats 10 years in the left seat). The starting pay is 55k and thats not a captian

  • has it occured to u their not doing it for the money

  • I never said that... Im telling that kid that pilots make more than mcdonalds workers, So clan down

  • guess what, not everybody wants to be a manager even if they earned 150K......

  • Very nice 757 by ATA. Go easy, Go ATA!

  • lol its not really that competitive

  • It is now a days nobody is hiring

  • ITS VERY COMPETITIVE!! its not easy to get a job as an airline pilot, trust me i know a few pilots and im in training now

  • whats it like is there alot of maths thats really complicated.

  • not really, I think alot of people think flying a planes alot harder than it is, I know that what my family and non pilot friends think

  • coming from a pilot... you should try it sometime then....

  • Can you give me any tips only 15 but ,you know can you help me out lol.

  • sure tips on what how to become a pilot?

  • yes what kind of maths does it involve ?For starters.

  • simple math middle school math

  • Well, to tell you the truth no math is needed since the FMC does all the calculations a pilot need. But the simple math you need is actually applied maths, its a mixture of maths and physics, so a lot of physics is applied.

The most chalanging part of a pilots job is memory and quick thinking. A pilots job starts in an emergincy situation, how proffetional he is to control the situation, to identify the fault and how to solve it in the least amount of time, maths or no maths.

  • Thank so much god bless

  • What absolute bullsh1t! I'll tell you right now the FMC does not do load sheets, or fuel loadings which the captain must sign off on which includes mental arithmatic of every single value. If a pilots job started off in an emergency have fun getting off the ground then!

  • Depends on the capability of the system. Some airlines who do not have paper load sheets enter their values (fuel, cargo, pax) for elec W&B on their FMS.

  • Thank you! I am so sick of the media thinking that a pilots job is easy, That the plane pretty much flies itself, Or that pilots are rich as hell.

1)A pilots job is soooo far from easy. If it was easy than anyone would be a pilot.

2)THE PLANE DOES NOT FLY ITSELF!!! sure there are computers that can help the pilots fly. But the pilots are always in command of the aircraft!

    3) People think that pilots are rich. Sure they are after being in the buisness for 20 or 30 years!...

  • good points packer

  • @packerfan084 hey i heard some of those same comments lots of times, it's annoying.

  • @packerfan084 wow! that's soo true! very nicely said!..most people just thing that the computers do all the work - not true....airline pilots are one of the most highly trained professionals in the world.

  • Comment removed

  • @packerfan084 @packerfan084 In fact, pilots only do the take offs and landings, the rest of the flight is done by computer(autopilot) i.e. cruising, climbing and descending but they must monitor the flight systems all the time. Moreover the landing can be done by autopilot but it is not recommended.

E.g. Flying manually is quite tiresome for a pilot in command for a 10 hours flight

well in some ways the medias right..

    Regards,

    Irvin

    F/O Air Mauritius

  • @irvinmanohar It all depends on the pilots, some pilots prefer to fly manually for longer. I am not disagreeing with you, i am just saying. I know that pilots would not fly the aircraft manually for 10 straight hours. What i am saying is the pilots have control of the aircraft at all times. meaning they control the computers. In some situations during the ascent or descent the pilots sometimes fly manually in severe turbulance and other cases. I would say more but i am running out of letters:)

  • @packerfan084 Do you know how to drive a plane fist of it!!!! Do you know all the models of it? Do you know how much you earn each month? Then why are you talking! Shut your mouth. Pilots in India get $10,000 dollars!!!!!!! each month! And the automatic pilot go through you GPS or your NAV, you dont have to put your hand all the time in the steering or palanca in spanish. stupid.... go get a life and a JOB!! You NOOB

  • @Gurugi389 Did you seriously just call me a fucking noob? I'm wondering how old you are because you sound like you are 12. First off my dad is a pilot. Second yes i do know how to drive a plane... kinda. Also i was talking about pilots in AMERICA, not India. Yes i do know how much a pilot makes, and in AMERICA it is not enough. I never said that you have to always have to be flying. i said that the pilots are in command of the aircraft. So how about you get your facts straight before you talk.

  • @packerfan084 I AGREE .. This video sucks

  • try what? Flying? I have many times, im a student pilot

  • Comment removed

  • are you working towards your PPL?

  • yep then IFR, commercial, Multi engine and CFI

  • kool im on commercial were are you training at?

  • no there is only basic math involved....

  • welp! you can tell how old this video is just by seeing the old USAir colors, let alone the "competitive profession" part...

  • hahaha...Somehow I knew that when I look at the comments section I'd see a comment like this. I can't agree with you more!

  • hahahaha lol haha yeah the copilot is in a very excellent condition i was scared by my health ut i see this guy and i'm scared anymore lol

  • "glamour and prestige"?...once, when Pilot Unions had balls...Did you know that starting pay for a regional pilot, is around $18,000 a year, and regional flying is taking over the entire industry.

  • major airline pilot makes good money, but to get there you know what has to be done...

  • Yeah it really sucks I went from regional to corporate now I'm trying to get back to the regionals because my company went under it really blows

  • ahaha...look at the copilot in the last scene!

  • ahahahahahahahah what a jokE! get on the treadmill!!!

  • yea the first officer at 1:15 is in excellent physical condition. It's bullshit. You can walk, talk, piss in the can, and see properly, you get your CAT One.

  • I like the fact that many pilots are from the service, makes me feel safer. It takes an intelligent man and lady to fly safely!

  • cool jop

  • funny the voice says pilots should be in excellent condition, while the copilot in the last shot weighs roughly 300 lbs..

  • Very good

    Greetings
