  • japan is a big amusement park.

  • What made you post this? (Ijust saw the date oh and Im here via FB) Thats just great. I'll be there for three nights october 3rd via Nagoya. Do you have any other videos in Takayama or any recommendations of "must see" things to do while Im there?

Good Idea for a language lesson video. Have you ever experienced anyone talking sh*t to you that didnt think you could understand them? LOL!!!

  • what are those red dolls.....???

  • @mellyvel1

    Saru momo.

  • japan is friendly. in my country, there would have been no smiles. just floods instead.

  • that old man is smoking his last cigar

  • o love these types of vids

  • how nastalgic

  • i love shopping in japan

  • gigiri gigiri @ 5:02

  • Very nice to see all this from a real visitor's perspective.

  • 09:36 is my favrorite part.

  • I got Dizzy!

  • I love vids like this. Thanks Victor.

  • Ahhh nice vid Victor-san. I'd love to go to one of those markets sometime. I wonder if people give you weird looks when you just stick your camera into their goods and not buy anything. lol. ^_^

  • Thanks, Victor! That was cool.

  • thanx!of my limited japan travels...this is one of my fav cities/nice memories.

  • 9:36 I'd buy that for a dollar

  • I would so go broke after one morning x.x

  • cool statues. good walk around vid, Victor.

  • what is that cube stuff on 4:28 ?

  • I think they're blocks of egg.

  • Great video. I love walk around videos like this

  • how do you videotape in japan? I remember that usually the japanese are quite private people and don't like to be in photos and videos. or is this just my misconception?

  • I just walk around with a camera. I'm pretty obvious.

  • Title Text Here.

  • Congrats!

  • lol for a second I thought the old lady was saying "title text here" to everyone that walked by.

  • LOL

  • Ooh takayama! 懐かしいな! Went there by highway bus from nagoya last year, during winter. My proof is the little red doll I have attached to my keitai :D

It was really beautiful but the city was mostly dead at the time. Thanks for the videos, now I really want to go back to japan :)

  • LOL!

  • Ooo Dog!

    aww Ferret...

    Whats this video about again?

  • That looks like a lot of fun. I want to be there.

  • I want a sarubobo Hello Kitty XD

    Lol - "I remember you." From when? A drunken night ( ^-^)?

    I liked the ending graphic.

  • I think this is one of my favorite "Only in japan videos!" that I've seen from you. Just because you occasionally threw in subtitles... I'm not sure why that made me like it so much... I think It just made me feel like I was walking down the street with you and that I could understand what was going on... I know that doesnt make sense.. But I like this video :)

  • Nice to hear your old theme songs again.

    OMG, 0:09 Tamori!

Very interesting, thanks for bringing us along!

  • So that's where you buy those old woman hats.

  • Hard to tell since you didn't film a lot of faces, but it looked like at least one or two other gaijin out there?

  • I remember at least 2.

  • Cool, I don' t know why really, but it's always reassuring to me to see them in videos. Knowing I won't be the only one around when I make it there next year I guess is why I'm always curious.

  • Thanks for putting the subtitles! This was great.

  • Wow, just like I'm there but with subs. lol

Was that statue with very long arms giving a finger? lol

  • I doubt the statue gave you the finger.

  • What an awesome vid. I noticed that it seems every dog has doggie clothes on, is that a big thing there like it is here(sort of)?

  • the ferret looked naked in comparison, though! maybe there's a hole in the market waiting to be exploited..?

great vid by the way- so simple but always interesting

  • I don't know how many dogs in the usa wear clothes...I don't think it's much more than a normal urban place.

  • Thank you SO very much for this! I am sure that I will never get to Japan but videos like this make me really feel like I am there! I appreciate you taking the time to share this with us!!! Just so much to take in!

  • Wow, very nice. Thanks GBM!

  • An american walking around with a camera filming everything.....aaaahh the irony, lol.

  • lol

  • I love this type of videos!!

Just going around showing the different things Japan has. Really interesting...

Do any of these people speak English?

  • Don't know... I'm betting ... not much.

  • thanks for that video... it seems really relaxing, just taking a walking listening to people chatter of ppl in the background as you go by... really cool

  • you should do more of these types of videos..go around and show us all the cool and weird japanese things

  • This was wonderful!

I've spent most of my time in China when I've been abroad, but it's both mine and my wife's dream to work in Japan for a couple of years someday. Awesome vid!

    Peace.

  • Thanks for sharing mate. It really goes to show you that regardless of were you live the markets are all the same....(just some or more scenic than others). Even what the people say. Thanks for taking the time to translate also.

  • Thanks for watching McTavish!

  • why are some ppl wearing masks?

  • To not spread their colds.

  • This was really fun to watch. ~9:23 Ferret! :D

  • whats that song at the end?

  • My theme song by Burnvictim77. He made it for me years ago.

  • My goood, this SO MUCH makes me want to go back to Japan :(

I miss all the asian faces and the chatter of Japanese T__T

  • I LOVE shopping video ^..^

    THANKS "v"

  • It seems so quiet in Japan. It's so loud over here in the U.S.

I'd love to live in Japan. All the trains, all the people, all the culture -- it's amazing!

I'm going to take Japanese all through High school and stuff until I'm able to understand the language enough. Then I can move to Japan! =D

  • And one of the great videos of yours.

  • Dude, you know how to have fun, I would like to be there and watch people's daily life. I made up my mind, I am gonna marry a cute Japanese girl and deeply understand old Japanese culture and I believe Japanese girls devote themselves to their husbands more than US girls do. I much love a wife who commits her life to me and eventually I would commit my life to her, you know, rather than hanging out separately. Thanks for the video.

  • In the end women are women. Don't imagine they are much more than other women. And individuals are individuals. Just find someone you love and who loves you back.

  • You may be right, but it would be awesome to marry a woman from different culture. It would be interesting to learn their life styles and what the fundamentals of their culture are.

  • Awesome video!

  • thank you

  • Yeah, I have to admit that sometimes I really miss Japan! When I was there I had a great time! That was 6 years of pleasantries!

  • lol the little kid holding the toy katana was cute he said welcome =3

  • What do these statues stand for?

  • I don't know really. I'm kind of a bad guide. I just like looking and going COOL! to myself as I walk around.

  • lol @ 9:36 going on panty raid

  • gr8 video mate some very interesting things there nice to see around the market

    cherrs

  • Who would like to tell me why the one guy had at 4:47

  • I think it is a kind of egg square.

  • That was cool, nice to see just the simple daily stuff.

Made me hungry tho, lots of little food stands ....kebobs, yummy

Thanks for the trip through the market, my wife is always trying to explain daily life in Japan to me, and pictures are worth a thousand words.

    Cheers

  • 面白い

  • It's good to see a rural scene. Good one!

  • lol those Sarubobo things are everywhere (>ω<) and it's not even that cute.

What are those yellow cubes things at 4:29? What kind of meat was it at 8:00? The ferret was so cute (^ω^) compared to those stupid carry around dogs lol. I don't exactly remember that statue at 9:43? What are the names of those two most famous statues then?

  • Egg squares. Like an omelette.

    beef skewers.

    google the statues. i forget.

  • I found that one with the hammer, lol no wonder it was ringing a bell it's on my haori! It's the god of wealth and fortune~

As for the two other statues:

The one with long arms is called: "Tenaga zuchi zou" and the one with long legs is called: "Ashinaga zuchi zou". The characters are supposedly from some Japanese old tale.

  • this is an ineresting video. I love videos that just film areas of japan think u can do akibahara next time? lol

  • 3:45 title text here

  • 2:09 smoker lighting up

  • Nothing really explained, a few subtitles here and there of some of the louder comments... just walking down a market street beside a river with a camera.

And this is, hands down, one of the best things I've ever seen on YouTube. Wow! Thanks a bunch! That really made my day. I've favorited this one and I know I'll watch it again!

  • awesome

  • I spy Monochhichi~

    I love markets > w >

  • more please

  • Wow, I really liked this! It was so cool to hear tiny pieces of people's conversations and see tiny pieces of people's lives...

  • Yeah, this was so cool.....

  • I love these vids ! About two minutes in I completely lost myself day dreaming about all the foods I'd try at the market. I only came back at around 8:30.

  • i like these kind of videos...seeing the many diffrent faces...

  • I wish I lived in Japan

  • I really like the way you filmed this!

It almost makes you feel as if you were actually there walking around.

    Very interesting!

  • This is cool! It's like a tour...very nice :D

  • What are those little yellow cubes at 4:40? are they like pastry's?

  • 3:45 - "Title text here"

lol, you must have been tired when you edited this. =P

  • 高山懐かしいです^^

  • i really wich i could go to japan

  • great video! was it hard to learn Japanese?

  • I don't think it's harder than any other language.

  • Hm only thing I found was the following.

The one with long arms is called: "Tenaga zuchi zou" and the one with long legs is called: "Ashinaga zuchi zou". The characters are supposedly from some Japanese old tale.

Hm maybe you could use the translation of these names in one of your lessons?

  • Good idea. Maybe...

  • Ugh now I'm stuck trying to find the tale about these two but I doubt that there are any English versions of the tale ^^
