  • I'd save some money and get a nissan 370 z instead.

  • I doubt they'll ever put a mid-engine in a 911 because the cars most iconic feature is the rear engine lay out, long term 911 fans would be pissed if they got rid of that

  • Ive herd people say the same thing time and time again, how they mock the Cayman about being "the model that people buy because they cant afford a 911" truth be told, IF you can AFFORD any Porsche, you should be lucky to own one, let alone the model....2nd, 911 owners are pulling whatever hair they have left out of their heads because Porsche created their own monster. Porsche has been known for handling and they made a handling God of a car thats double digits lower then the coveted 911.

  • Another quality product by Porsche, in a way, i feel as if they held back on the Cayman's true power...afraid if the engineers were given full access to bless it with full potential the thunder might be stolen from the car God would drive, the 911. I think in the near future, the Cayman will ultimately evolve into what it was ment to do.

  • @DTHPRF66 Honestly, I've seen more new Turbos on the road than the basic 911. Making the car lighter and throwing bigger engines into their supercar trim won't work that much longer. Sooner or later they'll have to put a mid engine into one of the faster 911s. Even Porsche realize this 10 years ago. That's why they have the Carrera GT and now the 918.

  • @babymegatron The only issue with that is affordability, Yes, Porsches were ment to be expensive, but the question is, can a capable 911 ever be as much as a mid-engine, perfectly balanced, Cayman? the answer is simple: never. Reason: the 911 is Porsches posterchild for a sports car, and they will protect it from any other car that can carve its way into 911 sales. My belief: The Cayman will evolve into something that Porsche couldnt imagine, look at sales now, its a prelude to the future.

  • @6UNLEASHED Ya... they're doing the exact opposite for Cayman and Boxster adding only 10hp more to each new edition just to keep the 911 alive. 911 isn't exactly an exotic looking car not even the GT2. Remaining is the performance; which the lower 911 trims aren't that special. This brought me to the point of - Buy a 911 because it's the all season house special, but most of the time those so called special are left overs from yesterday.

  • @babymegatron Porsche can easily make the Cayman/Boxster HP monsters, but for reasons like you mentioned, they wont, and cant. My question is: Is it worth buying a 911 compared to the better handling, mid-engine, 2 trunk havin', Affordable sports car? In all fairness, I think it is. Its more exotic looking, cuts curves like a razor, and is pleasing to the eye. 911 owners wont agree at any means to this, but you cant disagree with sales numbers.

  • @6UNLEASHED LOL I'm also sure the chassis from Cayman can handle way more power. Simple upgrades to open up all bottle neck and put in a better ignition will easily give it 60hp+. That upgrade alone will cost similar to a 911 basic trim. Besides... I don't know anyone who can fit in the back seats of a 911. What's the point.

  • @babymegatron The Cayman models are perfect cars to handle alot more power, except the only issue is, Porsche refuses to give the Cayman really what it needs to keep 911 owners happy. If the engineers were able to make the Cayman be what its designed to be, it will outperform the 911 all day long. But who wants to hear that a less expensive model just beat out the definition of a sports car...the 911?

  • @6UNLEASHED but that's a good thing in a way. If someone is really into cars they can get the better car for cheaper. Well... 911 is like buying a piece of history... but really who's thinking about history when corning at 100kph LOL. I love all Porsche except that suv and 4door...

  • AHHH. Love this car, but seriously I can't get over its exterior and interior styling. Front is nice, but the back is WAY too long - it's for utility but ugly looks as consequence? For performance, this for sure, but for looks the new Z4. Man it's a good looking car, inside and out.

  • I don't own a 350, i own a 370 w/ sports package. And read my comments, the cayman s simply doesn't hang in the corners like the Z. I know its midengined, but the Z actually has better braking weight distribution than the porsche.

  • @tyson33300 The zed is a piece of shit poor man's excuse for a sports car. The Porsche is leagues ahead. I drove the Boxster S and then a 313 350Z and the Porsche was way better.

  • Porsche...thats all that needs to be said when dealing with a DRIVERS cars. The company lives, breathes, and eats how a car responds to a driver and for that, Porsche stands alone.

  • The 350z isn't as balanced as the Cayman S. Since the Cayman is middle-engined, it has perfect weight distribution. The 350z is just your average FR car, which does not have as much balance as an MR layout car. You would get smoked in the turns by the Cayman.

  • It's the total package, Porsche has it and Nissan wants it....If all one were to care about were speed, one could buy a Z06 and leave you like you were tied to a tree on the street and on the track....Buy yourself a Porsche, drive it for a while and then you too will know the difference...As for your comment about Ferrari, I've owned 2 of those as well...Again, it's the total pkg....Until you realize that and quit quoting magazine figures, you will never understand....

  • My brother has the Cayman S and I have the 370z w/ sports package. I challenge anyone to ACTUALLY look up the specs on these cars. If i look back here and find one person who says the Z isn't a better car then I will have to list the specs myself. Go on, I dare you.

  • its not better on the track that much is proven. you may win in a straight line but thats only good for so much. I dare you to challenge me on that.

  • i CAN'T compare the bmw m3 to this car.

    20mpg for the bmw is terrible.

    but, the M3 is on par with the carrera for track times so i've heard......but who cares, both cars look amazing. I just can't afford 20mpg v8's when the threat of gas being 5$ a gallon is unknown. With 28mpg you are basically taking the 5$ gas and making it $3.50.........sort of.

  • While I do agree not as fun to watch as Top Gear, if your in the market for this car it's FAR superior to Top Gear as it's actually informative and very detailed review of the car.

I would like to see your jap 370z out-perform the Porsche on twisties and a straight-away.. the Porsche is waaay better balanced and has a waaay more efficient transmission than a 370z. 340hp packs a big punch in a porsche

  • when he was sitting in the hatch, he was sitting right on top of the panel. Its carpeted like the rest of the floor in the hatch area. You just twist a few latches to pull the panel off

  • This car is beautiful and a great drive. I highly recommend it to anyone considering purchasing one. IMO it looks better than the 911.

    A Porsche is a Porsche no matter what model it may be.

  • The only 911 worthy of getting is a turbo. Whenever I see a non- turbo, non-GT3/GT2 911, I think to myself that the person couldn't afford it... same theory there. A Cayman S can be easily spec'd out to go into the low 80's, easily placing itself into the 911 pricing...

    I hate it when people say "poor man's Porsche" A lot of previous 911 owners have actually traded their cars in for a Cayman due to it's superior handling performance.

  • @golfguy11800 The GT3 is still a $100K+ car and the GT2 has more HP but is slower and cost more than the Turbo. I agree, the turbo is probably over-priced, and so it's between a Cayman S or a Carrera S, both cars are very similar in performance, unless if you really want the 911 badge then the clear winner is the Cayman S.

  • Cheapo version, yeah right...And, What Version do you own??? I owned a 911 Turbo, great car...HUGE waste of money...There are far better things to invest money in...The law of diminishing returns is very real when dealing with exotics...You pay a whole sh!tload more, for a very small increase in performance...For a street car, that money is wasted as you will NEVER exploit what you paid for, at least not without spending the day in jail...For a STREET car, you can't beat the Cayman...

    Not a huge M3 fan. But if you compare a car like that to the M3. Then Obviously its going to be out ranked.

    This cars main competitors from what i see are 350Z, G37 (maybe), Honda S2000, Z4, etc. But M3? Cmon!

  • Beat it around the TopGear test track. And the comparison cars you mentioned are at least half, if not a third of that test car's price tag... can't compare japcrap to unparalleled German engineering
