  • GOOD TIMES BAD TIMES!!!!

  • You Suck... and by suck I mean you are really really good and I am jealous, lol

  • Thanks man! Helped a lot!

  • Really helpful Jared, thanks! :)

  • your "a little bit faster" is very fast you know-,-

  • what finish is that on your drums?

  • u have the best sounding drums on youtube

  • Yeah Vic Firth FTW. Screw that children's brand promarks.

  • around 2:00, you're basically playing a bit of John Bonham's Good Times Bad Times beat... sick.

  • ayeee! sounds like the dennis chambers shuffle! haha

  • This video helped me so much, thanks!

  • Hey Jared what do you think about DW pedals vs Pearl? i have D9000 but they say pearl is better?

  • This is weird, I do a Toe-Heel technique. XD

  • DUDE I LOVE U THANK U SOOOOO MUCH!!!!!

  • "and a little bit faster....faster....faster....faster..."

  • i wish i were taller. that way my toms could be set up like yours. unfortunately, god didnt give me size 12 feet so my toms are always slanted weird it seems. would you suggest buying a drum rack to enable the toms to be set up nicely? i'm 5'8" and would really like to have my toms like yours. once i even flipped my bass drum around to allow the toms to lean over the edge and rest at a nice level. Drum rack or flip the bass? that is my question

  • thank god we cant see his face...

    joke ^^

nice video it helped me alot

same for every other freedrumlessons from you

  • loved the groove in the end!

    great video :)

  • you are so modest Jared.

  • 1:51 OMG john bonham

  • Your a great drummer! what kind of kit is that cymbals and all? and what heads are those?

  • omg u are effin amazing!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks Jared, you have a great teaching style. You really broke this down well. Cheers :)

  • i love you

  • This technique took me some weeks to learn.. but not it just flows. Its awesome. BUT the problem is, i cant do it on any pedal yet. So far only on my own ;)

  • This is how Erik Sandin does his fast sixteenth notes.

  • My method of heel toe is a bit different from this. Any time I push the pedal downward with the ball of my foot, immediately my heel slams down on the heel plate. The ball of my foot catches the top of the pedal coming back up and I repeat the process. My secret is to dribble the pedal like a basketball with short strokes and staying low to the ground allowing my heel to make contact with the heelplate. Only works well with rolls. :@)

  • i always found this hard to do. I actually use the slide technique which I find allot easier. I know allot of drummers who prefer the heal toe technique though so I guess its just a matter of preference. Heal toe just feels so unnatural for me. Didn't you do a live lesson comparing these 2 techniques once?

  • wow thnx dude i learned dis in lik 3 days

  • @azndarkblade16 Did you sleep? ;-)

  • I actually love you!!..(no homo) ..Thankyou!.. I wanna play drums like ya! -.-

  • One would do with any pedal?

  • I have a couple of weeks trying this technique, I feel no difference in progress since I started, don't know what is wrong, if my-pedal or my-self... I'm about to throw the towel...

  • @JonySuperStar patience man!

  • can you do a 3 and 4 vid of these techniques but with a double pedal ive already mastered it with a single pedal but now i was hoping you could show us stuff with double bass pedals

  • my mom's boyfriend got me a mapex pedal. it's real heavy duty.

  • holy shit. what if u got that down with both feet, bought a double bass pedel and then learned to alternate um. EURUKA

  • Jared,

I use a Tama Iron Cobra Power Glide single bass pedal.

It seems like regardless of all the endless toying around with the settings and adjustments on the pedal, I can find one ideal setting for playing the heel toe technique.

    Do you have any suggestions?

    Thanks

  • i think this might be a dumb question but how do i know if my spring is tightened correctly on the pedal? i cant get a steady 2 hits on the bass like you. it might just be that i need more practice

  • hey jared, just watched these two videos - GREAT stuff man. some tasty grooves at the end there dude, sweeeet! :D

is the "correct" way to refer to this technique "constant release"?

    thanks for these vids :)

  • the last part he does sounds like good times bad times by led zeppelin

  • hey man i cant get it down, its kinda gettin me stressed, any tips pointers to help out? thanks

  • hows the spring tention on the pedal tighter more lose?

  • Man, I have to say, you rock man! I'm a guitarist but I'd switch to the drums any day. I respect your talent!

  • BEST VIDEO EVER. Seriously great job. That little improv beat at the end was awesome.

  • I would like to see an ending point to this. I know guys are using this in metal to get (essentially) double bounces out of their double pedals. I haven't learned heel-toe yet, but I'm planning on it. I feel that I have a very fast single stroke speed, would heel-toe actually make me twice as fast; or has anyone found a breaking point?

What I mean is, eventually the pedal is just not going rebound enough to go any faster. Has anyone encountered this with a single pedal?

  • After a point, it's just better to use a double pedal. I don't know if I've trained well enough, but with straight sixteenths I can do maybe 130-140bpm. But, with just quick doubles I don't think there is one :).

  • @skillnub70 Thanks! I was just wondering if it's really worth the time. I try to consolidate my practice time so I'm only working on things that are needed.

  • @drumguyrobc well george kollias can do 16th notes at 280 bpm heel up

the guiness world record using heel toe is only a little faster

so no it will not instantly souble youre speed

  • very good instructions and awesome demonstrations, you are awesome

  • My feet don't fit when I do this technique which bass pedal is recommended I have a big foot

  • @comedicano he said in another video foot size doesnt matter, youre actual heels dont even need to be on the pedal, it is just the rocking heel toe motion that gets this speed

  • dude, i love the design on your drumset

  • wow that little jam at the end was amazing

  • Very good video, both parts. First time I´ve actually seen someone teach it the wy it´s meant to be done! Great work!

  • i need an acoustic kit

  • i got it when i did it slow, but now i try to get faster and sometimes can only make one hit, and i start to injure my ankle so i stop... i used to start down and then up my foot

    Any tip about gain speed??

  • ya.u dnt have to do such exagurated foot movement....

  • @alvar0tube ye me too...

  • ooh excellent, im a noob drummer but this video is excelent for me

  • You are an idiot.

  • (This was for weerpool14)

  • That comment was full of ignorance. I won't deny single pedal techniques aren't worth learning but no need to blindly attack other drummers who just want to expand their horizons and further their skill. Also I wont say there aren't poser's out there who will only learn double bass to get laid, but don't generalize.

And then to just attack metal at the end of your comment? Not cool.

Just because your entitled to your opinion doesn't mean you have to be a douche about it.

  • @Draiman1234

"...who will only learn double bass to get laid..."

Playing double bass gets you laid? How come it's not working for me? :(

  • @weerpool14 you just say that because you are incapable of using a double pedal. i play metal .. but 1 try to use all techniques possible on both feet .. so if you think about it this way .. amazing 1 footed technique + the other foot being just as good = holy fuck .. u fail

  • @shadowlorde indeed, double heel toe = dayum

  • @weerpool14 you can't drum

  • bustin' out the funk at the end there. Sweet bro. Good stuff I'm learning here.

  • Awesome video ! I always have had a problem with this and thought it was my pedal . My form was just wrong , I get it now , thanks !

  • I use that first exercise as a fill now =p.

  • @skillnub70 So you play John Bonham's style ;)

  • Damn my pdp pedals! ;p

  • @9sactown1skater6 omfg i have the same pedals!!! UGGGH! though if you learn to do this on pdp pedals then when you move on to better pedals they are like butter :)

  • those doubles look so effortless

  • what i really still caNT find out is if im doing heel toe with both pedals and i start with my right...then iwhen do i put in the left foot? is it right after both hits on right

  • If you're trying to do this exercise with double strokes on two pedals, I would change it so I'd strike the hi-hat at the same time as the first stroke on my right foot then play the second stroke on my right then the first and second stroke on my left foot.

That would keep it in an easy to follow 4/4 but that's just how I'd do it.

Message me if you want me to email you some tabs or something.

  • @HEAVYD2012 Right heel, right toe, left heel, left toe. Basically, think of doubles with your hands and do the same with your feet.

When i do it, i actually start lifting my left foot to get it into position right after the first stroke of my right foot.

Get some double stroke hand rudiments and practice them with your feet. It'll help a bunch.

  • there is actually a simpler technique having in mind of putting it up... :P

  • Thanx Jared, there is a lot of this in punk music especial in songs by social distortion, and operation Ivy. I never knew how to get that quick double tap sound, now I just need to practice this.

  • That groove at 2:55 was crackerjack! ( ie GREAT )

  • Wow thanks man, no one ever expained this better!

  • I notice when you go to heal toe you move you whole foot up the board, then when you play a solid not so fast tempo you move your foot where i ALWAYS keep it. I just got a gig playin drums for a Zep tribute. That is about the tempo for "good Times". Now on that tunes like I have to swivel my heal towards the floor tom to get the quick hits in, and they are not consistant. Are you conciously moving up when you "skip" just wondering, cause I have to be solid. Advise? Bonzo Wrote that @ 18 yrs old

  • pretty awesome beat at the end!

  • im having a lot of trouble trying to learn this, especially with my left foot

  • Try learning it on your right before on your left.

  • i can do it with my right foot. thats why im saying my left foot.

  • lol i HATE how i cant do the heel toe thing, because everytime i try its just comfortable :(

  • you are awesome man...

i wish i could really do that tricks on my drumming

[sorry i don't have my own drum set to practice everyday T_T

but your good man your god ^^.,

[thanks for sharing your bass drum tricks... ]

  • YOU ROCK thanks from Perú

  • dude! .. you rule..

  • that was some sick drumming there at the end!

  • well, thank u for this video lesson. recently I've been playing hard with my bass pedal and hurt my leg muscles then i understood i did it wrong way. found this video and i'll try to use it when muscles be ok

  • WOw,

    I really salute you....

hope I can get teacher like you!

  • i cant hear you!

  • The solo at the end was awesome.

  • thanx 4 the lesson Bro,Really2 improve my doublebass technic...I owe you Bro...GBU

  • if you use the technique wrong, cant you injure the tendons in your ankles?

  • ive been playing it different than him and never had any problems.

  • ok i was just wondering as a drummer with really bad ankles. and it interferes with my double speed.

  • Jarred I am 58 years old and have been playing for 45 years

Your lessons are very very helpful and my playing has improved A Lot Wish there had been You Tube and vids When I started Playing

    Thanks again

  • how do you have the tension on your iron cobras set loose, medium, tight?

  • heel toe its not that hard to learn, just start slowly and be patient. but be sure you have the right technique with your foot.

  • the solo at the end is so crazy I really like that!! I wanna did this too!

  • great technique.. just doesn't work that good with your shoes on, so i always have to drum without my shoes:P

  • Thank You! I just tried the technique after watching both parts. Immediately I see that this is so important to master. I am gonna have some fun with this.

  • " i'm back! and you still can't see my face!"

lol that made me laugh man!

nice work, but man i'm still having problems, darn

  • Jared your a good guy man...thankyou :)

  • Your heel toe tutorial really help me out

  • haha that first triplet thing you did automatically made me think of baroness.

  • i really like that solo thing you did at the end! (:

  • is this technique easier with lighter beaters. or does it also work good with the original dw-beters

  • what are your thoughts on the DW 9000?

  • if your talking about the pedal, you are better off with a 5000

  • thx dude

  • Comment removed

  • slide has room for more fault s than the heel toe.

  • Nice work!

  • I think that's an iron cobra....

  • what kind of petal r u using?

  • I am using a Tama Iron Cobra bass drum pedal.

    - Jared
