yes benders are used to hold a pipe in place to cut pipe. look at my video for the offset ruler. makes offsets super easy to do as a new or old electrician. btw, just because YOU don't do something a certain way, don't think everyone else is inferior for it. nothing worse than electricians that do that. learn techniques from others such as those in the video are doing. stop ridiculing others.

First off, you make your bend before you cut, and if your pipe is that small, you would stand the bender on its end and use your arms to make the bend. Secondly, you would use your bender to make your cut by putting the pipe in the hole of the bender and apply pressure to hold the pipe solid. This kind of teaching just makes me mad.....
@MrAntrock you are right,,, the way the teacher didnt even scold her when she was lifting up on the hand bender while bending ,,,,that could crease the pipe at the least and warp the pipe at best,,hahaha stupid and what kind of teaching method is taking a bunch of first year students and makin' em race to make a 90 degree bend ,,, and the girl that was suppose to be the "champ" pulled that bend in so far it was damn near 45 degrees inward!!!!
she is using her knee to hold the pipe steady while she cuts it,,,good.... but, i would cut on the outside of my body, not aiming at my crotch.. i think thats dangerous..

It would be a lot easier to bend if she bent the pipe first then cut it. Also the bender handle is hollow so you can you can use it to tweek the pipe a little, not your hands like she did lol

im an electrician for 37yrs, you guys have it easy. When i was an apprentice, working with ridgid conduit we had to know alot of formulas cause we didnt have the tools u guys have today. Example.... Ridgid conduit....... imagine bending ridgid conduit, and having to bend, then cut..... you heard me right. Lets say u have 2 J boxes, less than 10 feet apart, but they are uneven and u must put a 90 on it. Now, you dont have a pony, just a ridgid 300 pipe threader. Do you know how to bend that?
I think she did a great job better then me today was my first day in my class for pipe bending i'm just glad i don't have any females in my class there's no way i would be able to stay focused lol

Join the IBEW and find your local Apprenticeship and learn real pipe bending ! These kids are being taught wrong , speed kills in the real world especially electrical work and thats real advice!

I would have done it like a true Journeyman ! Walk off and come back 20 minutes late with a sawzaw.
Most journeyman will get the bend they need, stick it up to the wall, mark where they need to cut it, and cut bits off both ends.
The best benders calculate shrinkage and can get the exact length they need off the bend without wasting extra conduit.
