You mean Kaori. Well (but I guess you already knew this), the game's creators too, on their own admission, were tempted with the suicide option, but considering the series' nature, finally chose the "retiring from school cursus".
And when you see the technical failure of Mitsumete Knight (sold well, but definitely not as well as they expected) and the utter failure of Tokimemo 3, both of which didn't shy away from the death factor, we can say their choice was ultimately right.
TM3 indeed failed for a number of reasons (graphics, gameplay simplified), but I wouldn't be surprised the moodier atmosphere would be another one.
IMO, I feel Kaori suiciding would have been too much & would have tainted in a bad way the game. Her retiring from school out of depression is the perfect balance, making you feel very bad, while not tainting the game's mood : the balance between wacky comedy, fluffy romance, and drama that made TM2 the most popular entry in the series.
You can try to order this game, if you want it : get a look at Nippon Export (w w w [dot] nippon-export [dot] c o m), they can get basically any goods you'll order to them, from CDs to games to artbooks to goodies. ;)
Kaori is an excellent volleyball player, and was basically the ace of her club when in Junior High. When she lost all confidence after being betrayed by her friends in Junior High, she dropped volleyball, but if you manage to gain her trust and make her fall in love with you, in 3rd year of High School, having regained enough confidence in herself, she'll enter the volleyball club.
Thanks for posting these. I'm a big fan of Tokimeki Memorial 2. The best part of these though is your translation and your notes. How did you know about Mei's "no da"? I've looked "no da" up in a pretty reliable japanese dictionary and a couple of other sites and I haven't seen that anywhere.....
You're very welcome, glad you like those vids and the subs I did. :)
Concerning the "no da" bit, it's a colloquial form often used in anime and informal speech for everyday's life. I've heard it from kids and teenagers her and there back then when I was in Japan, but (ab)using it like Mei does is clearly a childish verbal tic that will make you look ridiculous in front of people.
I though that in this game, none of the characters had a character-specific attack pattern (since you can choose the pattern you want), so I thought it was all right if I chose the one I want.
And it was against Miyuki that I lost here, not Sumire. :p
Yep, there are times Mei has really unplesant dialogues (just as expected for being Rei's sister). Thanksfully, that aside she's, IMO, a real fun character.
But, I'll consider your request fully done only when I'll have subbed all three parts. I've just finished subbing Part 1 : as it's late tonight in France and I won't have time tomorrow, I'll take care of the other two on Friday. Stay tuned for those subs ! ;)
Ah~ah, I would've kind of preferred it if the pinkhaired girl (I forgot her name) had really committed suicide instead of moving to another school ..

@AceNoctali I don't know TM3 .. but I thought it failed because it took so long and the graphics weren't good ..
I dunno, I wouldn't've minded one suicide, if you could prevent it if you knew her well enough.

I can't seem to figure out the reason for Kaori's vollyball animations.
Is it supposed to be related to what she said in the Hikari run about wanting to change?

Nice vid. I like Mei's dialogue Kaori. Even though I don't like Mei's attitude very much. She reminds me of Ijuin Rei.

What is Mei saying at 7:42?
Iceray8 2 years ago
The same thing as in 7:51 : "Naka naka tanoshii no da !", aka : "Quite interesting !"
